- Very Good
“wonderful, clean cottage full of character, lovely and peaceful”
Our first time at Butterfly Cottage but will definitely go back. Cottage was lovely and clean and full of character. Amenities were very good. Area is peaceful and very picturesque with some lovely walks. We received a warm welcome with lovely home made bread, delicious.
Owner's reply: Many thanks for your very kind review. We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay and that you found the area to be both peaceful and picturesque. It's good to know guests seem to appreciate a personal welcome and the "little touches".
Butterfly Cottage was perfect. Everything we needed for a lovely stay. Cosy, comfortable with fabulous views.

“Cosy cottage with lovely view”
Easy to book, beautiful welcome with homemade bread, butter and milk together with wine, chocolates and fresh flowers.the cottage is well furnished and equiped and the downstairs bedroom and bathroom is stunning. Lovely little touches with butterfly towels and bedding. The small garden patio is lovely to sit out on to admire the view and share a glass of wine or two! The garden was well enclosed for the dog. The surrounding areas are breathtaking with so many walks to do and although we didn't visit Durham this is easily done. Pub in St Johns Chapel is basic but we had a good steak and on any other evening we drove to Allenheads Inn in Allendale for the most amazing steak pie. A must is the walk along High Force to Low Force and onto Gibsons Cave where you can stand under a waterfall. If you want a peaceful break away from the hustle and bustle and are prepared to drive quite a bit to get to places this accomodation provides a romantic base for this remote part of the U.K.
Owner's reply: Thank you for your review and we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Butterfly Cottage. A car is a must unless guests just want to chill out and walk the hills locally. High Force is about 15 minutes away and local restaurants are dotted along the Wear valley in most of the villages with a good selection within a 20 minute radius. As the cottage is on the Northumberland, Durham and Cumbrian borders the main cities and towns of Newcastle/Gateshead, Durham, Penrith, Carlisle, Hexham and Darlington are all within an hours drive away so for people wanting to dip into several counties the cottage is well located.
