THRILLED TO SAY WE HAVE BEEN AWARDED A TRIP ADVISOR CERTIFICATE OF EXCELLENCE IN April 2018. This is a charming converted hay barn which has recently been up graded set amongst the rolling hills of the North Pennines in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The property benefits from far reaching views, which can be appreciated from the living accommodation and the properities private viewing deck.

People who visit tell us that the most enjoyable aspects of their stay are the stunning views, peace and tranquillity so they can chill out and the local walks which are literally right on the doorstep.

Please note that the stairs in the cottage may make this cottage unsuitable for people with mobility issues.

Local amenities are near by which include the post office, co-op, village shop, doctors, cafes and pubs as well as the fortnightly cinema. Larger towns situated near are Alston and Stanhope which are a 15 minute drive away where there is a greater selection of shops and Durham, Newcastle, Carlisle, Hexham and the Metro Centre and all within 3/4hr to an hours drive. There are many interesting places to visit in the North east and the cottage is situated on the borders of Durham, Cumbria and Northumberland making it an ideal base for people who would like to have the opportunity to visit a range of interesting places. Hadrians wall is located within an easy drive as is the lake district and the historic town of Durham. Indeed the Scottish border is only an hour away if people were inclined to see some of the border towns.

For those peple who enjoy walking this is an ideal base for walkers being set only a few hundred yards up from the Historic Weardale Way and Wesleain chapel and museum.

The property is accessed through its own private entrance from the raised viewing deck. The accomodation is beautifully appointed with a cosy living area with white leather suite to seat three which includes a power recliner and TV with sky free view, which is mounted on a trolley stand so guests can set the position of the telly as they wish. The brand new multi fuel stove will keep you toasty warm in winter The newly refitted kitchen area is fitted with a modern fan assisted oven and hob and under bench fridge with small freezer compartment and a micro wave. The dinning table can seat 2. The bedroom is decorated with wall paper which reflects the cottage theme of Butterflies and travel and has a king sized bed on a solid oak bed frame and Myers pocket sprung and memory foam mattress. Luxury high quality Alpaca duvet and pillows are used on the bed.. The ensuite bathroom is beautifully appointed with LED lighting, illuminated anti mist mirror, cast iron bath and thermostatically controlled shower over with screen. The bathroom has an isolated electric towel rail to keep towels warm. There is also a small dressing/utility area with a full length mirror and Bosch washing machine.

For your comfort and convenience the cottage is fitted with good sized radiators and a plinth heater and all of these are controlled by the thermostat situated in the living room.

The cottage has "Orbi" state of the art "Mesh wifi" installed and this eradicates any weak signal points in the property.

Outside the property benefits from a balconed deck overlooking the valley and the hills beyond. On summer evenings meals can be eaten out here. There is a small fully enclosed terraced garden beyond and car parking for one car on the gravel drive to the front of the property. There are steps down from the car park to the cottage gate.

Well behaved pets are very welcome free of charge but we would kindly ask for a refundable deposit to cover possible damage caused and would ask guests to make sure the garden is clear of dog mess before they depart. Failure to do so will result in a claim against the damage deposit for extra time required to make good the garden for on going guests. If your are bringing a dog under a year old or more than 2 dogs please contact us before booking. Kennelling is also available if preferred as is a pet sitting service for those days or part days where you may want to explore minus your dog.

Interaction with guest

We always try and see guests into the cottage and make sure they have our contact details. Cosy cottage in peaceful area
Aug 2023

Lovely, cosy cottage in scenic surroundings. Anita gave us a warm and friendly welcome and the wine and goodies were much appreciated. The property was secure for our two dogs.
