"Worst stay"

We stayed in this cottage 2nd week of August. We were expecting a holiday cottage with a nice view(according to the pics on advertisement) , clean and professional holiday stay. It was a just big h… More

I am shocked by the above review. We were contacted by the guest in question to ask if 12 people could stay at the cottage, We politely explained it could only accommodate 7 in the beds. (2 double beds, 1 single bed and a bunk bed) but he said he was more than prepared to have some sleeping on sofas so we explained that there were three airbeds and two sofas. He said he was more than happy to bring extra bedding for those guests. So we decided to only charge £10 per person per night (which is less than the youth hostel where they would have been sharing a dorm). On arrival we received a call from the guest stating he was not happy as "There was no children's play area in the garden". I politely pointed out that nowhere on the advertisement does it state that there is a play area in the garden. He then said "Oh forget the play area I cannot see the dam" I said you can see the hills of the Elan Valley. We never said you had an actual view of the dam itself, we said the Elan valley was within a short distance of the house. He then said "oh I will call you back and let you know if I am actually going to stay" At which point I said "ok no problem let us know, if you decide not to stay then we can refund the money but you will need to let us know as soon as you can" We never heard anything we then had to contact him to ask what he had decided to do at which point he abruptly replied with "we are staying". On cleaning the property burnt matches were found on top of the wardrobe in the single bedroom and there was a hole in the carpet by the coffee table which we have had a quote to repair of £137 so the deposit of £50 will nowhere near cover this. In addition we had a phone call from the cleaner to say that all the furniture had been moved around and being a lady by herself she was unable to lift the chest of drawers and four poster bed and had to ask the assistance of a male to help her. With regards clothes in cupboards this is absolute nonsense as all wardrobes were checked prior to the arrival of the above mentioned guest to check that no previous guests had left anything behind and the only other cupboard is the airing cupboard which has spare linen in it. The curtains have never been used before so how on earth he can say they were not clean is ridiculous. I should like to request pictures and proof of the apparent clothes in the wardrobes as I have proof of the burnt hole in the carpet. There is a visitors book in the property which other guests have filled out with positive comments and I have contacted previous guests to see if they are happy to post their reviews o here as well as in the book. I would not recommend the above guest unless you are willing to pay for damages out of your own pocket.
