Restoration of this building incorporated environmentally friendly construction materials and supported sustainable development practices. For example, the Plywood supporting the wood floors, emit no or very low formaldehyde into the air. Other materials include Rockwool insulation, glass tiles, Volatile Organic Compounds-free paint and wood stains. The furniture and cabinetry were made from solid wood from local sustainable sources. No MDF or OSB was used in this building. All William Morris designed wallpaper used in the building was printed on formaldehyde-free paper from managed sustainable European Forests. The printing was done with water-based inks and coatings and do not contain lead or any other heavy metals. The wallpaper is installed with wheat paste/cellulose paste. All the furniture in the building was designed to represent the arts and crafts movement using solid wood. The water heating and heating and air conditioning system is controlled by a energy efficient central system, which is located outside the building. The building and the units are equipped with fire alarm and automatic fire sprinkler system. Additionally, building features were added to the building for earthquake retrofitting. The rooms are equipped with audio-video system to communicate with the main entry door. Please note that no shoes are allowed in the building. To preserve this 110 year old building's original staircase and the wood floors in the rooms we kindly request the guest to take their shoes off at the entry (either carry them to your room or place them in your unit's shoe cupboard which is provided at the main entry). This building is strictly NON-SMOKING. We regret that we cannot accommodate pets.

"eye for detail and passion for design make this an original, interesting & very special place"
Heirloom is a very special place, and the stay there really MADE our holiday.
In the artsy area of Cukurcuma (very centrally located) in a quiet little side street, is the 1902 building that Dilek and her engineer brother, Ender, completely renovated, sparing no design feature and cutting no corners. The passion is obvious. Not only is every detail thought of, but even the structure of the building is earthquake-proof, thanks to Enders engineering background. Dilek and Ender have a great love for the arts and crafts movement, including its philosophy "Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful."
William Morris wallpaper throughout the building - such a luxury!
They also have very high standards, which can be seen in their service, the presentation of the rooms, and the style throughout the building. They are also very friendly; happy to recommend restaurants, sights and nightlife, all according to budget.
Cukurcuma is a great place to stay, with its lovely restaurants and vintage shops, situated between Taksim and the Bosphorus.
A very relaxing and yet exciting stay, which I'll always remember. it would be difficult to go back to Istanbul and stay elsewhere.

"Live in Istanbul like a local"
We had the honour and pleasure to be the first occupants of apartment no 3 at Heirloom Apartments, Istanbul. The flat was a delight, clearly a great deal of attention had been given to the fittings, finishes and comforts of these beautiful apartments. Although we did not have a Bosphorous view, the comfort of a large sitting room, the option to cook for ourselves when we were not tempted to go out to one of the many wonderful nearby restaurants, was more than adequate compensation. The Bosphorous is only a 5 minute walk away. Also it was so nice to have breakfast 'at home' in our dressing gowns. The apartments are in a great location -- one can feel as though you are really 'living in' Istanbul, away from the tourist area of Sultanahmet, and a short walk to shops and restaurants that Istanbulli go to, in Cihangir and Beyoglu. A 3 minute walk takes you to the main pedestrian street, and public transport. And our hostess Dilek, with her boundless enthusiasm for Istanbul and life generally, really made our stay memorable. Dilek was always on hand to offer information and assistance -- from where to visit a Hammam, to how to post a parcel home, and more. We started most days with a coffee in the ground floor cafe -- siphon, espresso, capucinno - and the best fresh lemon juice ever. Her assistant Ahmet too was always around with a smile and ready to help with luggage, coffee etc. we look forward to coming back to Istanbul to stay in Heirloom apartments, and a coffee with Dilek.
