6 Avocet Quay is a most attractive and unusual self - catering holiday cottage set in a much sought - after location near the town centre of Emsworth. The properties in this location are often referred to as "the houses on stilts" and are great fun to stay in for holidays. It is ideal for sailing enthusiasts, being near the sailing club and it is only a short walk from the varied shops in Emsworth.

The accommodation consists of an entrance hall/utility area on the ground floor with a bright open plan kitchen/sitting room on the first floor, along with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. There is a balcony off the sitting room with area to sit out on, affording pleasant water views, and there is also space for storing a small dinghy as well as a car parking space. The house will accommodate four people and is comfortably equipped. It is available either short or long term, for either long weekend breaks or for a month or longer at a time. It will cater for both holiday makers or business people on short term work contracts.

The Central Southern England / Hampshire region

This area enjoys some of the best levels of sunshine in the U.K. Emsworth is situated right on the west Sussex/Hampshire borders, two of the most beautiful counties in England. Stunning coastlines combined with rolling countryside make it a unique mixture and it has numerous historical connections.

The nearby naval city of Portsmouth is where The Victory ship is berthed and Chichester to the east has its famous Roman connections, exxamples of which are exhibited at the Fishbourne Roman Palace.

The Emsworth area

Situated at the top of Chichester Harbour, Emsworth is a stunningly beautiful market town popular with sailors, walkers, artists and tourists. It has two tidal mill ponds, one of which abuts Bath Road, which are host to a variety of wild life. It is full of history, with a long established reputation for oyster fishing and boat building and still boasts traditional shipwrights and chandeliers. The sailing club is a thriving centre for sailing enthusiasts and the pretty streets have a fascinating mixture of different architectural styles. A gentle walk around the village, which has superb harbour views, gives a genuine feel for the past. There are excellent road links to Portsmouth and Chichester (15 minute drive to both approximately) and there is also a mainline station to London.

There is an interesting selection of shops in the town itself and there are numerous places of interest to visit in the area. These include Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth, one of the largest vantage points in Europe, the internationally rernowned Chichester Festival Theatre at Chichester, polo at Cowdray near Midhurst and horse racing and motor sports at Goodwood. There are also annual festivals at Chichester, Brighton and Arundel. In addition to the sailing at Emsworth there is also a super sandy beach at West Wittering which attracts wind surfers and surfers, as well as sun bathers.

There is a mainline railway station in Emsworth itself as well as good road links to Portsmouth, Chichester, London and Southampton, where there is an airport (about 40 minutes). There is a larger airport at Gatwick.

“perfect” Emsworth is a delightful little south coast port with good shops and restaurants, only 10 miutes walk away around the picturesque historic tidal mill pond . The house was very well appointed and comfortable, cosy even in October. Situated 50 yards from the shore in a very well kept estate and with wonderful views. So much to do in the area from Chichester to Southampton.... we made a different and interesting trip out every day for a fortnight, let alone the lovely walks and birdwatching in the area. A perfect holiday.
