Peaceful retreat in the heart of the countryside

The Old Sawmill proved to be an excellent retreat. The property was very well kept, was modern, and had all the necessary amenities. The owner is very friendly and helpful, which added to our experience. Located deep in the Kent countryside, there were several footpaths from the property which meant excellent walking was on the doorstep. One point to bear in mind is that its location means the lanes around it are very narrow, so a cautious approach to driving in the area is needed. and on that issue it may be worth considering driving to the property from junction 9 of M20 via A28 to Wye, and then on to Hastingleigh as the roads are wider. The railway station at Wye (3 miles) is very convenient, (15 mins to Canterbury) You can also get to many other destinations from there. All in all, a very enjoyable experience. … see more
Old Sawmill 1 Mill Cottages
Really comfortable, great facilities excellent host

I have also reviewed the other cottage we booked - 1 Stables - so there will be a lot of simularities in my review as both cottages are excellent. 1 Mill has two comfortable double rooms onto a kitchen/sitting room. The cottage is spotless, with a dishwasher which was very welcome! I would really recommend this self catering cottage - very pretty countryside though the roads are single track so drive carefully. The Compasses is an excellent restaurant in nearby Crundale. The hosts are fantastic - lotsd of attention to detail in the booking process, very responsive and helpful re queries, and comletely unfazed when we turned up a day early by mistake - although 1 Mill had other guests staying 1 Stables was free so we bunked in there as at that stage we were 3 rather than 5, but really, they couldn't have been more helpful. Also v reassuring to have the hosts on site. We had a friend staying for a couple of days and she left her mobile by accident on the patio table when we went out for the day , and someone very carefully put the phone under the door. … see more

We hired out the whole complex for a family party and had a fantastic time. Every room was spotless and well looked after. The beds were very comfortable with lovely duvets and pillows. The kitchen was very well equipped and enabled us all to cook for a massive family dinner. The owners organised the dinning room so we could all bring our food together and have a huge family meal. We felt well looked after by the owners, our needs were a top priority to them. Such a great venue. Felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. Can't wait to go back and do it all again next year. … see more
