Individual barn overlooking fields with real fire, dog friendly
Our visit to Swallow Barn
A great place to stay. Everything required was there. Setting was perfect for our quiet getaway with marvellous views from the garden. The fact we were able to use the paddock to exercise our dog was a tremendous plus. We would love to return to this lovely cottage.
Thanks to Richard and Rosie for the use of Swallow Barn. …
Cosy cottage in Suffolk Countryside
Lovely, cosy, perfectly equipped, clean and rural cottage
Lovely rural location, quiet and very little noise from the neighbours. Very good location to explore Suffolk. Beach, Newmarket and Cambridge about 1 hours drive, many lovely gardens and NT properties nearby. Cottage is lovely and cosy, very clean, well equipped with sharp kitchen knives (!). Excellent beds. We certainly recommend it! …
Cocketts: a peaceful historic retreat in the heart of the Suffolk countryside
This cottage is truly a rural idyll. A step back in history but with every modern convenience. Our dogs were welcomed and enjoyed the garden and local walks. Our children and grandchildren were well catered for and loved the goats (especially the adorable babies). Although the owners live next door, they were never intrusive, but we knew they were available if we needed anything. Add the very friendly Suffolk folk and some delightful towns and villages to the mix and you have a fantastic holiday. …
Granary Cottage - Upper Langdales
Perfect family getaway
We stayed 3 nights at Granary Cottage after reading the reviews on trip advisor and seeing the lovely pictures on line. We were looking for a self catering property where we could relax and enjoy a quiet break. Having recently had a baby (he was 9 weeks old) we needed a well equipped kitchen to meet his needs, plus my husbands (who is a keen cook and wanted to look after us while we were away). Granary cottage exceeded our expectations - it was quaint but furnished to a very high standard. It was in the depth of the country side so very quiet (with the exception of the resident rooster!!) and the owner - Johanne - was exceptionally welcoming and helpful. She had even left some welcome provisions from the local farmshop for us, which was a lovely surprise. If you had older children there's an amazing games room set up in an outhouse and 2 lovely big paddocks to run around in.
All in, a perfect family retreat in a beautiful setting. …

Stable Cottage - Upper Langdales
Lovely holiday setting- makes you want to come back again and again!
Beautiful and well appointed cottage which has absolutely everything you want and more. It is tastefully furnished with attention given to small details- the welcome hamper of local cheese and cake was unexpected and very thoughtful! The surroundings are idyllic and a perfect place to relax and explore the rest of the area. Though it is in the middle of nowhere (which was just what we wanted!), local shops and supermarkets only a couple of miles away. Alder Carr Farm shop highly recommended. Great space for kids to run around and expend energy. Internet access was quick with no problems and helps you stay connected!
Jo responded very promptly to all queries.
Our break was all too short and we plan to return soon...very highly recommended! …
16th c Grade 2 listed village house in tranquil setting. 3 bedrooms, sleeps 4
Charming, homely, period cottage full of character.
Booked this as a base for our first visit to Suffolk.
Went with my two late teenage children and tried to choose somewhere with reasonable travel times to where we wanted to explore and within my budget.
We loved the period feel of the cottage and we felt very comfortable and relaxed there. It's a shame the local pub is currently closed but we did have a couple of lovely Chinese takeaways from the village. The whole atmosphere of Old Newton was very relaxed and me and my son used the huge local playing field to play a bit of Cricket and have a kick around a few times.
Having good WiFi was obviously a major plus with my children !!
Went to Bury St Edmonds, Ipswich, Framlington and Sutton Hoo. Beach wise we saw Southwold (twice) Aldeburgh and Wilberswick. It did take an hour to reach the beaches but the the drive along the Scenic route was very pleasant.
I think the best thing was how relaxed my Children were in the cottage. It feels more like a home than a holiday let.It took a bit of cajoling to get them out some days which made it a greats week Holiday for all of us and no mean feat.. …
Chaff Cottage - Upper Langdales
Wonderful, friendly and helpful host. Cottage comfortable and cosy with everything we needed and more. Bed linen and towels supplied. Irons, ironing boards, washing machine and dryer and vacuum cleaners available on site. An additional, thoughtful touch was the supply of a small loaf, a tasty cake, pint of milk and some cheese with fresh flowers on arrival. TV, Radio and Wi Fi also available, along with fridge with ice box, electric hob and oven and microwave. The whole area was peaceful and beautiful. We have a dog and there were plenty of walks on the doorstep, the only request was that dogs didn't go into bedrooms or on the furniture, otherwise things were fairly relaxed, but common sense dictates that you consider your fellow guests in relation to the dog, e.g., barking etc. We had a relaxing and comfortable break at Chaff Cottage and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. If we are ever that way again we would definitely stay here. …
