From the owner

Angate Cottage is a delightful 2 bedroomed self catering period cottage situated in the heart of the historic market town of Wolsingham, the gateway to Weardale, situated by the River Wear.

The cottage retains many original features including a large stone fireplace with wood burning stove. It also includes all modern facilities including gas central heating, bath with electric overhead shower and gas condensing combi boiler.

Two double bedrooms ideal for a family of four, with the master bedroom featuring a Victorian cast iron bed and arts and crafts period furniture.

A totally enclosed rear patio area provides a safe haven for children and pets and is a perfect location for barbeques.

Parking is available outside of the cottage however as this is a public road we cannot guarantee parking directly outside of the cottage at all times. There is however ample parking within close walking distance.

Angate Cottage is an ideal base for those who wish to explore the idyllic countryside of Weardale. Fishing, walking and cycling routes are nearby.

Wolsingham is a small market town looking much as it did hundreds of years ago with many stone built listed buildings, period features and links to its long history. In recent years it has become a thriving visitor stopping off point at the base of the Weardale valley.

Wolsingham Agricultural Society holds its annual show on the first weekend in September, with a daily attendance of over 30,000. Established in 1763 it is one of the oldest show in the country and brings in animals and visitors from a wide area. A fun fair runs in the town the same weekend with many streets closed to traffic to cope with the crowds.

Wolsingham is served by the heritage Weardale Railway, whose trains run from Bishop Auckland to Stanhope, including special steam train services, the highlight of the year being the Polar Express at Christmas time.

Very nice stay
Dec 2016

Agate cottage is right in the centre of Wolsingham. Very pretty little cottage, but plenty of room for the 3 of us. Nice and warm and very well equipped. We'd happily stay there again!
