Description from owner

Description

Dorset country cottage with self catering for two in Witchampton.

Situated on the outskirts of the picturesque and historic village of Witchampton in the Vale of the River Allen. Much care was expended in converting this old telephone exchange into a relaxing holiday retreat for the discerning couple.

Its location gives the best of all worlds - equally close to the Isle of Purbeck or the New Forest, and adjacent to Cranborne Chase - yet only ten minutes from Wimborne itself with its historic Minster and charming shops.

The accommodation consists of one double en-suite bedroom, fully fitted kitchen, separate cloakroom, lounge with extensive views over the countryside. The property has a cosy oil fired central heating system and wifi. There is ample parking outside for at least two cars.

There is so much to do from here - walking, mountain biking, fishing, sailing courses, mooching and tea shopping, pub lunches, great restaurants ....or absolutely nothing and

Location description from owner

The England region

Dorset is a most beautiful county with a diverse range of landscape which has been occupied and barely changed for millenia. The world heritage Jurassic Coast provide both world class beaches and excellent cliff walking on the start of the South West Coast path. Further inland there are a string of iron age forts which were subsequently occupied by the romans who also left a legacy of great bridle paths and roads for walking or cycling.

The New Forest is also nearby offering a subtley different flaura and forna.

There are numerous market towns and villages worth visiting along with National Trust and other open gardens. With such a wealth of fresh produce on our doorstep we also benefit from many first class restaurants and outlets for farm produce.

Wimborne Minster

The cottage is at the southern end of the historic Cranborne Chase in the Vale of the River Allen, which is in itself a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Witchampton itself nestles in the valley below The Old Exchange, and has a shop run by volunteers, a church and "the club" which welcomes visitors for a pint in the evening. There are six country pubs within 3.5miles of Witchampton, all serving food

Wimborne with its famous Minster is only a short drive away. It has a Waitrose, a Coop and many great pubs and restaurants.

“Lovely”

Reviewed 9 Apr 2017

We used the old exchange as our base for a 4day trip during which we explored both the local surroundings and the Dorset coast. It's a Tardis of a place, and we found it really relaxing with all we needed to be home from home, Sarah was delightful, and we'll be back!
