The England region

East Anglia is a beautiful part of England, undiscovered by the masses. The region is perfect for a seaside holiday and also offers historical, cultural and natural delights. The Essex coast is undoubtedly one of the UK's best-kept secrets - but why not come and see it for yourself?

Summer in Walton....., soak up the East Coast sunshine on a good old British beach, take long scenic walks along the promenade deciding which beach hut you like best, have a leisurely picnic on the clifftop at the Naze, make a pot of tea and try a freshly-baked cake or 3 from the bakers round the corner, spend the evening in a friendly local hostelry sampling local ales and great home-cooked food(and only 2 minutes to get home!) , enjoy a cooling sea breeze out on the pier whilst you watch the anglers and look down on the only lifeboat station that's actually out at sea, relive your childhood with a family board game or 2........

Walton-on-the-Naze

These are just a few of the things you could do during your stay in Walton:
- explore The Naze, a famous local clifftop nature reserve and visit the Naze Tower, a tearooms and Art Gallery housed in a Georgian brick lighthouse
- eat out in a restaurant which was once a Martello tower
- visit the Walton Lifeboat Museum
- go on a wildlife cruise and see the seals
- go fishing off the pier
- tour the Tendring peninsula and explore the ancient towns of Harwich and Manningtree, the many villages and of course the coastline
- amble down to Frinton along the seafront promenade and browse the shops in Connaught Avenue, the "Bond Street of Essex"
-bring bikes and cycle part of the Essex Way or simply go where the (flattish!) empty roads lure you
- shop till you drop at Clacton Factory Shopping Village
-go tenpin bowling on Walton Pier, the second longest in England
-search for fossilized sharks' teeth on the beach

and that's just for starters!
You could be forgiven if you just stayed all week in Walton, but if you can tear yourself away for a while you also have the delights of Suffolk and Constable Country not far away.

And your holiday need not end when you leave Walton. Many visitors to Walton come from the London area and on the way home there are various Essex attractions you may wish to stop at en route eg Freeport Shopping outlet at Braintree (on A120 towards Stansted then down the M11), famous picture-postcard villages such as Finchingfield and Thaxted ( near A120), Stansted Mountfitchet Castle & Museum (J8 of M11). If you would like ideas for a "stopover" on your way home just tell us where you live and the sort of thing you like when you book and we will be happy to suggest ideas.

“Exceptionally well-maintained and located property”

Reviewed 29 Sep 2012

Very well equipped and comfortable with two spacious bedrooms and very conveniently located for award-winning beach, local walks, pubs, shops and restaurants together with superb public transport links if you don't bring a car. On-street parking is something of a lottery but we never failed to find somewhere to park nearby whenever we went off for the day in the car.. If you bring bikes ( as we did ) you can leave them securely locked to a wooden gate in an alley to the rear of the property provided you do not obstruct it but let the friendly neighbours know as they will keep an eye on them for you.

“A lovely holiday”

Reviewed 31 Oct 2011

We recently spent a week in Walton with our two boys aged 12 and nine years. Dresden Cottage is a charming two bedroom holiday home in a residential area just a few minutes walk from the beach/sea front/pier etc, also the shops are conveniently at the bottom of the road. It does have a very well equipped kitchen but having said that we ate out quite a bit as there are so many nice places in which to eat close by. The house has a warm friendly feel to it and there were a few appreciated touches such as beach chairs, buckets and spades etc.
