From the owner

A cosy and quirky Grade 2 listed cottage, with private off-street parking, now with EV charger, just two minutes’ walk from Ventnor town centre and under ten to the beach. Tastefully refurbished and fully equipped, India Cottage boasts an amazing terraced garden, with stunning views over Ventnor Bay and the Victorian townscape. You’re bound to unwind and relax, whether alfresco dining, catching the sun or just enjoying a drink whilst watching the world pass by.

Pull up into your own private parking space with EV charger adjacent to the cottage (now with EV charger) and start your holiday! India Cottage is exactly the quintessential cottage we drew as children, the kitchen and lounge downstairs with bedrooms and bathroom upstairs. Built in the 1850's and Grade 2 listed, it has some quirky features both inside and out giving it both special charm and real character.

Through the front door to the left, there is a well-equipped kitchen with round table seating for four. Although compact, the kitchen has all the mod-cons needed including, microwave, gas cooker, fridge-freezer, full-sized dishwasher and Nespresso machine. To the right is the cosy lounge, with a woodburning stove, modern comfortable ‘L’ shaped sofa, bespoke pine furniture and Freesat TV and DVD/Blu-Ray.

Upstairs is the master bedroom with comfy king-size bed and door into the ‘Jack and Jill’ bathroom (shared with bedroom two), which has a classic Victorian themed bath/shower, w/c and basin. Bedroom two with a sea view can either be configured as two full-width single beds or a spacious zip’n’link super-king (on request). There is a quirky small second door from the stairs into the ‘Jack and Jill’ bathroom (see pictures). Both bedrooms have blackout blinds and plenty of storage space for your clothes and bags.

Also upstairs is the back-door leading past the handy washing machine/tumble drier utility room, and stairs up to the lower ‘beachcomber’ themed terrace. Sheltered in the lee of the cottage, this lower terrace has a comfy summer day-sofa and undercover food-prep area with fridge. Up from the lower terrace is a small mid-terrace with mosaic café-style table and chairs for two.

Continuing up from the mid-terrace you discover the main feature top-terrace. The top-terrace has superb sea views across Ventnor’s Victorian townscape. Whether sunbathing in the comfortable loungers or dining alfresco at the French café-style table, you are bound to spend time up here relaxing, watching the sailing boats and commercial ships go past. In the evening the terrace solar lights come on, making it magical place to have a drink before retiring to bed.

The cottage is just a two minute walk down to Ventnor's quaint and independent led town centre and under ten minutes walk to the Ventnor's sand and shingle beach. The cottage is ideally placed as a base to explore the island on foot, two-wheels or by car.

NB: Please note India Cottage does have steep stairs inside and very steep steps outside between terraces (see pictures), and constrained second bedroom access to the bathroom/wc, we therefore stipulate it is not suitable for young children (under 10) or guests with impaired mobility.

We do welcome well behaved dogs, but ask you bring your own dog blankets and dog towels. For guests with dogs there is an additional grassed exercise area which can be accessed from the top terrace, by prior arrangement (not suitable for general use). For additional visitors there is a second private parking space in Southgrove Road also available on request.
