There is a courtyard garden both front and rear with off-street parking for two cars at the rear.
Location
Willow Cottage is located just across the river Avon from the town centre, immediately beyond the Recreation Ground and historic Old Tramway.
Willow Cottage is part of a small gated complex which is approached by car from the Shipston Road.
A secure gate from the gardens opens onto the Old Tramway adjacent to the Stratford Sports Club/cricket pitch.
From the gate, a short walk to the right along the Old Tramway takes you past the entrance to the Butterfly Farm and continuing over the Tramway foot bridge you arrive at the marina complex in just 5 minutes, with the town beyond.
Just a 2-minute walk to the left, from the gate, there is a children’s playground and the Old Tramway Inn.
The Recreation Ground is a large expanse of public open space adjoining the River Avon and is the location for many activities and festivals. It is provided for informal sports activities and general recreational use with facilities including the playground and paddling pool, outdoor gym, bandstand, Avon Bowling Club, Stratford Minigolf and public toilets.
Here you will also find the old chain ferry, built in 1937 and the last of its type to be made and used in Britain. This provides a useful shortcut to The Other Place Theatre, the Black Swan (Dirty Duck) pub and the old town.
At the southern end of the recreation ground you will find Lucy’s Mill Weir and the Colin P Witter Lock and beyond this, pathways leading to open countryside.
Access
Willow Cottage is located at the edge of the River Avon floodplain but is protected from flooding by the Old Tramway. As a precaution the house is raised slightly above the surrounding ground level and therefore access is via 5 steps upwards which may prove difficult for guests with limited mobility.
Similarly access to the Old Tramway is via a short flight of steps.
