Description from owner

Description

Midsomer Cottage is a delightful refurbished and extended three bedroom Victorian cottage with open outlooks, situated in a charming village within the Oxford ring road, and with easy access to the city. The accommodation is 4 star, stylish, and provides comfortable space for five or six people.

The main staircase is steep, with narrow treads, and there is a paddle staircase to the twin bedroom on the second floor, making it unsuitable for children under about seven, or the elderly. However a cot and stair gates are provided, and many families have enjoyed a happy and comfortable stay in the cottage.

The village of Iffley is ideal for a comfortable and relaxing stay in Oxford as it is on an excellent bus route into the city, is close to the river, and offers a lovely old Norman church with a Piper window. There is a community village shop run by villagers, two hotels and two pubs serving good food. A choice of supermarkets are within easy reach.

The city is a pleasant 30 minute walk along the river tow path, with your first stop perhaps Christchurch College and meadows. Most of the colleges are open to the public, or you can pay a visit the Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers museums,The Sheldonian Library, or Blackwells book shop. Another option would be to take a guided walking tour, or ride on an open top bus, to familiarise yourselves with the dreaming spires of Oxford.

Restaurants in the city include Gees, The Old Parsonage, Quads, The Vaults, and The Trout, to name only a few of many. The Playhouse Theatre and Pheonix Cinema in Jerico offer easily accessible entertainment.

Getting around

A feature of life in Oxford is an easy bus service to airports, a good train service, and plenty of taxis. However perhaps a bike will seem most appropriate once you see how many there are in regular use.

Interaction with guest

Our aim is for you to have a relaxed and enjoyable stay, and over the past eight years we've built a reputation for helping to facilitate just that! Our manager Cheryl lives to the left of the cottage, and will aim to meet you when it's mutually convenient. So we ask you to inform her of your likely arrival time in advance. If she can't be there she will leave a key under the doormat, and call to meet you at her earliest convenience. There are two Sainsburys nearby, plus a Co-Op, plus the village shop (early closing Wednesdays). Our WiFi is excellent.

“Wonderful cottage for a fabulous weekend in Oxford”

Reviewed 13 Feb 2019

Four of us stayed in Midsomer Cottage for two nights for a family member's birthday. Arriving after a long drive on a freezing cold Friday evening, we were delighted to find that the heating and the lights were on and there was a lovely gift basket in the kitchen! The cottage was welcoming and cosy, with on street parking a doddle. The king size bed went down very well and it was great to have two washrooms so no fighting over bathrooms in a morning. On Saturday we walked into Oxford which was a pleasant 40 minute stroll, on Sunday we caught the bus from Iffley Turn which was very convenient. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer.

Owner's reply: Cheryl and I are so very pleased that the cottage lived up to your expectations, and that you feel it's appropriate to use words like wonderful and fabulous after your stay! Thanks very much indeed, because it makes it all worth while. We hope to see you again one day, Sue

“If you're looking for the greatest cottage you have found one!!”

We have lived in this cottage for one month from 12th of November to 12th of December. We advise everyone who wants to have a rest in calm place. The house is very beautiful, very comfortable and very clear. You can find everything you need for a long living, each detail is provided for. Thank very much to Cheryl and Sue! They will try to make your staying as much comfortable as possible! Very quite and safe area. Warmest wishes Yaroslav, Elena and Maxim

“You will feel like home”

Reviewed 27 Oct 2017

Midsomer Cottage is cosy, includes everything you need and is a good base for a lovely holiday in Oxfordshire. Starting from the house you can walk along the Themes to Oxford, what we really enjoyed! We got a lovely welcome-basket with coffee, milk, toast, butter, eggs, orange juicy and lots more. We felt like home right away!

Owner's reply: Great guests who took care of the cottage as if it were their home - which is what it's all about!
