“Lovely cottage, perfect location.”

Reviewed 6 May 2014

We have been to the cottage twice now and will definitely be visiting again. It's in a perfect location for cycling, walking and to admire the beautiful countryside. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need, very clean and to a high standard.

“A real gem tucked away right in the middle of great open Northumbrian countryside”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2013

A wonderful compact cottage - warm, comfortable, with all the things we needed for a relaxing stay with beautiful countryside just outside the door. A locked bike store made life easier after times cycling, with a hose to clean the bikes and tools on hand. Our hosts were friendly and helpful, without being intrusive.

“Excellent stay”

A very well-equipped, comfortable cottage in a lovely peaceful location. Lack of TV was not an issue and the owners were very friendly and helpful (had a bit of an accident with a cafetiere!!) Well worth it.

“Excellent location, great accomodation”

Reviewed 6 Jun 2013

Located in a really rural area - but plenty of interesting walks, and tourist sites within a short distance - north, east, west and south!! The accomodation was ideal for the two of us, although a couple of younger children could easily have fitted in too! Comfortable accomodation, well-equpped, friendly hosts. Although it is near a road junction - we were not aware of much traffic. Great views from the windows!!

“Fantastic cottage in amazing county!”

Reviewed 5 Jun 2013

My husband and I stayed in the Hayloft over May half term along with our Border Terrier Reg. Everything about the stay was fantastic. Claire is a speedy and careful communicator and all of the information we received prior to our stay was really useful. They also have a policy of not inflating seasonal prices at half term, which I consider really admirable. The cottage is beautifully appointed and extremely well equipped with thoughtful touches (first aid kit, picnic crockery, dog bowl and towel, bike repair box etc.) and quality basics e.g. pans, crockery etc. The cottage is compact but perfectly big enough for two people and a dog (there is also a second bedroom with bunks for small children). Small but very comprehensive kitchen with everything you need to be fully self catered. Lovely bathroom with under floor heating and extremely comfy double bed in the main bedroom. Nice, dog safe, compact garden area to the front, which has a BBQ and chairs should the weather be nice. We came to walk, cycle and explore Northumberland and the Hayloft provided the perfect base for this - we visited Kielder Forest, Rothbury, the Scottish borders, walked in the National Park and visited the coast all within 5 days. It is possible to walk into the village of Elsdon (about 1.5 miles) which has a pub and café but apart from this you will definitely need a car / bikes to get about. The location is pretty good in terms of reaching all of these places (fantastic if you want to be close to the National Park) but you will need to be prepared to travel to see the entire variety that the county has to offer - I promise you that this is not in any way a chore as the drives are beautiful and the county is absolutely stunning! We mountain biked at Kielder, Newcastleton and Glentress and can recommend them all. Glentress was about a 90 minute drive from the cottage but totally worthwhile - the Tweed Valley is also beautiful. The cottage does not have a TV or WiFi signal but we did not find this a problem. We watched a couple of DVDs (TV and DVD player available) but the rest of the time we simply enjoyed the view and the peace and quiet! We arranged for a delivery of food from a supermarket and I would advise any guests to do this or to bring your food with you if you plan to be mainly self catered as the nearest supermarkets are some distance away although there are smaller shops nearby which you can get all of your basics within a couple of miles. I would recommend this cottage without hesitation. Northumberland is an absolute gem of a county and the Hayloft provides a comfortable and convenient base from which to explore - where else can you get fantastic countryside, beautiful (almost deserted) beaches, picture perfect villages, dramatic castles and fascinating history and a major UK city all within an hour or so's drive?! Go, stay here and you won't be disappointed. Just don't tell everyone - we wouldn't want those beaches to start to fill up...
