Location description from owner

The England region

Overbrook Barn is in the south-west of the Peak District National Park: 550 square miles of some of the most spectacular country in England and home to much of UK's finest climbing, caving, walking and cycling. Stretching from the dramatic moorland and breathtaking landscapes of the Dark Peak to the ancient oaks of the National Forest in the south. Home also to many of the country's finest stately homes, enchanting market towns, and picturesque villages. The Peak District was England's first National Park and is believed to be the second-most visited national park in the world (after Mount Fuji in Japan). It's a breathtaking place!

Longnor

While many people visit us just to enjoy life on the farm there is also an enormous amount to do locally.Countryside enjoyment starts with some of the best walking and cycling in the country on a network of bridleways and footpaths which start on the doorstep. Theres a trekking centre in Flash so you can enjoy the same on four legs. The less experienced can sign up to a week's course of riding lessons at the local school. Get involved in local farm life: watch milking, visit farm shops and the mushroom farm, or try your hand at some alpaca husbandry. This is great badger country: in the evening there's nothing so exciting as watching the dusk exodus of tens of badgers off on their nocturnal rounds. We're surrounded by some of England's most beautiful and exciting country houses. Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Little Moreton Hall, Biddulph Grange, Gawesworth Hall, Capesthorne Hall, Tatton Park, and Lyme Park are all within 20 to 40 minutes drive. Many have spectacular gardens and children's playgrounds. Chatsworth has an outstanding adventure playground. Buxton Opera House has a 7-day programme of family entertainment as well as some opera. Clonter Opera (the Glyndebourne of the north) is about 30 minutes drive and they will cater for your interval dining if you don't want to take your own picnic. Macclesfield has a great 'classic' cinema. Alton Towers (rides and theme park) is 30 minutes away.Macclesfield was the centre of silk production in the 18th century. Many of the mill buildings are still standing and there are several museums covering this great part of our history. Buxton (10 minutes drive) is a spa town and was built by the Romans, there's lots to see here including some fine Georgian architecture. It's our nearest town and probably has all you'll need. Good restaurants including Thai, Italian, Indian, Chinese, and a Pizza Express. Good parks and playgrounds. There are Waitrose, Morrisons, and Aldi, supermarkets.

“Fantastic place, would highly recommend!”

Reviewed 25 Oct 2012

Stayed at Overbrook Barn for the weekend with 6 other friends, based in a beautiful part of the Peak District the barn was perfect for our relaxing weekend. The accommodation is finished to a high standard with everything you could possibly need. The owners are very helpful and made us feel at home. We will definately be returning one day - thank you Gemma & Simon.

“Exceeded Expectations”

Reviewed 4 Jun 2012

My husband, four-year-old daughter and I stayed 10 nights at Overbrook Barn in the heart of the Peak District. The barn was beautifully decorated, well maintained and fitted out with luxury white goods, appliances and household items. Based on a working alpaca farm, the animals, which also included pigs, chickens, sheep and a very friendly black lab, gave us hours of enjoyment. As did the fabulous views from every room. Wonderful walks directly from the doorstep, too. I would definitely recommend this holiday rental to anyone that wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of city rentals. Keep in mind the limited phone and internet reception however.
