It’s simply stunning. This beautiful garden studio for 2 with hot tub and decking nestles just 5 miles from Edinburgh’s vibrant west end and 10 minutes’ drive from the airport. Surrounded by glorious countryside, its location offers much more than being on the fringe of Scotland’s magnificent capital city with its world famous Festival and countless unforgettable attractions.
Yes, its location offers much more than even that.
The cottage has a fantastic south facing vista all the way to the airport and beyond. It takes in a panoramic view of fields, hills and a very big sky. You can savour this view and the often breathtakingly beautiful sunsets from the comfort of your chair on the decking or- even better - from the spacious and luxurious hot tub! And in the field adjoining the decking, the sight of grouse, pheasant and deer going about their business is an extra joy. Gorgeous walks are right on the doorstep. Neighbouring Cammo Estate with its ornamental canal, walled garden and abundance of wildlife is a tranquil treat. Paths weave through yew, holly, rhododendron and pine trees and if you’re lucky you may even glimpse a heron or kingfisher. The estate's main house, now in ruins, is said to have been used by Robert Louis Stevenson as inspiration for the House of Shaws in ‘Kidnapped’.
Another picturesque walk offers a meander alongside the River Almond to historic, charming Cramond with its harbour, beach and waterside cafe. From here you can stroll across the causeway to Cramond Island. However, if you’re looking for something a little more energetic than a peaceful, soul-satisfying amble, Turnhouse Golf Course is a stone’s throw away. And if it’s adrenaline-fuelled stuff that grabs you, Edinburgh’s Indoor Climbing Centre- Europe’s biggest - is a mere 10 minutes’ drive from The Secret Sanctuary. Then there’s Knockhill, Scotland’s only motor racing track which offers great experience days. It’s just 15 miles north and close to the hauntingly lovely Loch Leven - the largest lowland loch in Scotland. The idyllic countryside that surrounds it now boasts a beautiful heritage trail and is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and bird watchers. Take a boat trip to Loch Leven’s Island and see the remains of the castle made famous for being where Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned in 1567 and forced to abdicate. The good news is she escaped within a year. The bad news is she was executed 1587. . .!
Even closer,10 minutes’ drive - is the delightfully quirky town of South Queensferry. Located between the iconic Forth Bridges on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth, it’s a very special place indeed. Steeped in history, it’s home to one of the most interesting collections of buildings you’re likely to find anywhere. The oldest is St Mary's church, which dates from 1441. Visit one of the cafés and restaurants which line the main street to admire Scotland’s world famous bridges at superbly close quarters. Walking across the road bridge is an exhilarating experience but a car trip is unforgettable too, not least because it transports you to the magical Kingdom of Fife with its many charming fishing villages - and of course the golfing Mecca that is beautiful St Andrews. The Road Bridge also takes you north via the M90 to picturesque Perth, known as the Gateway to the Highlands. Only 40 minutes in the car and you’ll be there.
There are two 24 hour supermarkets within a couple of miles of Edinburgh’s Secret Sanctuary plus a shopping centre and retail park. A variety of eateries are close by too, including a wonderful steakhouse and an award-winning Indian take-away. Minutes away stands the impressive Art Deco themed Grosvenor Maybury Casino. Head there if you fancy a bit of fun and a flutter with your food! And talking of food, Craigie Farm Shop will delight your taste buds! Drive for just 10 minutes and you can relish extensive farm views along with mouth-watering soups, quiches and heavenly chocolate creations!
Then there’s magnificent Edinburgh itself. A city so beautiful and enthralling, no number of superlatives can do it adequate justice. And no number of visits will quell the desire to experience it again and again. See it and believe it. And if you don’t fancy driving, bus and tram services are very close and can take you there in under 20 minutes.
So yes, this cottage has a very, very great deal to offer.
Our main priority is your comfort, convenience and contentment so Edinburgh’s Secret Sanctuary is extensively and thoughtfully equipped.
