Location description from owner

The Scotland region

We are situated in the peaceful countryside location of our old family-run farm, just on the edge of the village of Chirnside. This beautiful setting provides views over to the Cheviot Hills, where you can unwind and enjoy your holiday.

The Scottish Borders is a fantastic region steeped in history with beauitful countryside and coastlines. We are just 15 minutes drive from the historic border town of Berwick-Upon-Tweed. The picturesque Berwickshire coastline is just ten minutes drive, where you can enjoy secluded beaches, charming harbours and plenty of stunning walks. Holy Island is a short drive away, where you can spend hours exploring, just remember to check the tide as this is a tidal island and you don't want to get caught out!

So whether you wish to expolre the many castles or abbys or just want to get out in the great outdoors, theres plenty for everyone here.

Chirnside

The area has plenty to offer, including great local food and produce, restaurants, cafes, galleries, charming coastal towns and countryside villages.

Due to its geographical location, the Borders has plenty of history to explore. From the border town of Berwick-Upon-Tweed, where you can walk around the Elizabethan Walls, to the Border Abbeys and many castles, including Alnwick, of Harry Potter fame, our local area is steeped in history. Local historic houses include Paxton House and Manderston.

The Borders are home to many events, two highlights locally being the Jim Clark rally and the Common Ridings. Held annually in May, the Jim Clark rally, the only UK mainland closed road rally, runs over three days. Jim Clark was raised on the neighbouring farm to ours, he is buried in Chirnside churchyard and in the local town of Duns, you can visit the museum dedicated to his achievements as world motor racing champion, where many of his trophies are displayed.
The Common Ridings are one of the oldest equestrian festivals in the world, reflecting back to the 13th and 14th centuries, when the Borderland rang out to the sound of fierce disputes and battles. The ridings run from May to July and many participants still ride out on horseback to patrol their historic march boundaries.

East Lothian, with its historic castles, such as Tantallon and Dirleton, and the world renowned Bass Rock Seabird Centre are within an hour's drive.

If it's outdoor adventure you seek, there's plenty around here to keep you busy. Beautiful walking can be had along the Berwickshire coastline (via the Berwickshire coastal path) and around surrounding countryside (Sir Walter Scott Way). Great Mountain biking at Glentress Forest and Innerliethen, Fishing on the river Tweed (the famous Salmon River), learning to surf at Coldingham Bay as well as horse riding, cycling, sailing and golf.

So as you can see there is plenty to take your interest here!

“Perfect stay: modern, beautiful home”

Reviewed 9 Jul 2015

The cottage is modern and spacious but is very homely. The surrounding scenery is beautiful and the village of Chirnside is only a short walk away. The busy town of Berwick is only a short 10-15 minute drive. The owners were very pleasant, even leaving a delicious-smelling home-baked loaf for us! Great value for money and, overall, this was the perfect place for a holiday and I will be visiting again!

“Modern, comfortable and well-situated”

Reviewed 12 Apr 2015

This is the first holiday home we've stayed in where the rooms were bigger and furnishings better in real life than in the website photos. Simon and Emily clearly paid attention to detail in developing something that they'd wish to stay at themselves (e.g. good wi-fi, DAB radio) and were also attentive whilst never being intrusive. We were already familiar with the area and would recommend the coastal and in-land walking, as well as the Allanton Inn for eating out.
