We have spent 2016 refurbishing and extending our property, using local architect Malcolm Pawley, creating an additional studio apartment and adding higher specification fixtures and fittings, as well as a washer drier that our guests asked for.

All reviews prior to 2016 are for our original ground floor flat, and we have made improvements to the apartment to make your stay even more of a pleasure! We pride ourselves on offering great customer service. The accommodation is sited adjacent to the owner’s home so we are usually on hand for help and advice about where to go, but you have your own entrance and your flat is self-contained.

We now have two apartments, one ground floor and one above it so, if you're coming to London with friends or family you can book both apartments together and we’ll offer you a discount. If you're interested in our other booking, search for Bankside Apartment at Borough Market #2 (number 7505068).

Bed linen and towels are supplied. For long stays, extra bedding and towels and cleaning can be provided on request.

Central London/Zone 1

London's South Bank is one of the best locations for a trip to the capital. The neighbourhood is lively and busy, but has lots of opportunities to relax.

As well as the many local attractions, there are great transport links, and it's easy and pleasant to walk to other tourist destinations.

Our favourite walk is along the south bank via Southwark Cathedral, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Tate Modern, the Royal Festival Hall and the London Eye and crossing Westminster Bridge to the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. This can be done in half an hour, with great views of the City of London and St Paul’s Cathedral on the way, but you will probably want to stop along the way to enjoy just being here.

What a great find this was - a nice, clean and modern apartment and perfect for a couple. The position is just perfect to get to all of the places you want to get to when in London! A vibrant area with lots of nice pubs and so many places to eat! Will definitely return and get to all these pubs and restaurants we missed out! David is a great host and knows how to look after his guests.

Owner's reply: Thank you for this positive review. We look forward to having you back!

“Lovely, cozy home, close to train and great restaurants”

Reviewed 27 Mar 2013

David and Ida are friendly and helpful and have a beautifully presented unit available. They are more than willing to help you out if you have any questions but also give you space if you need it. We found it felt like our own little house while we were there. It was very clean, well presented and furnished. Great appliances, although no washing facilities (Laundromat close by). Close walking distance to London Bridge train station. David gave us some great restaurant recommendations and they were all fantastic!

Owner's reply: We're pleased you enjoyed the restaurants. We are really, spoilt for choice in this area.

First visit to London and it won't be our last! Bankside Apartment is the perfect location for a stay in London. So conveniently located within minutes walk of everything that you could possibly need for a stay in London. Metro, buses, tourist attractions, centre of London, the best pubs, we cannot speak highly enough of the location. The apartment is very comfortable, wi fi made it possible for us to communicate with teenagers left at home, and for keeping in touch with Steve's work, fully equipped kitchen to cater for coffee whims or eating in. With the Borough market, pubs and an excellent Indian restaurant all just minutes from the apartment all of our needs were met! Comfy bed, great shower, warm and cozy - perfect. David and Ida made us feel so welcome and the personal touches (orientating us to the area, having our first pint with David, dropping us to the Eurostar) all made our trip memorable. Thanks David and Ida - we loved London and staying at your apartment. Will definitely be back!!! Cheers!

Owner's reply: Thank you for this lovely review. We are so pleased you enjoyed staying with us for your first trip to London and would love to welcome you back.

“Couldn't be better”

Reviewed 30 Jul 2012

We stayed in the apartment for two weeks. It's conveniently located, only a two minutes' walk from the London Bridge tube. The best thing is that it's just next to the Borough market with lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, cheeses and cooked food. It's also easy to get a cup of coffee from the famous Monmonth round the corner. The place is stylishly decorated, very clean and extremely well equipped and maintained. The appliances including the microwave oven, fridge, oven, heaters, coffee machine, etc. are all modern and high tech. The kitchen has everything we need and all utensils are clean and of good quality. The bathroom is also nice and the hot water flows well and strong enough. The beds and mattresses are comfortable. David is very thoughtful and gentle. We consider ourselves as very lucky to have found this apartment and had a wonderful stay there.

Owner's reply: It was a pleasure to have you as guests and we're delighted that you enjoyed staying here. It's nice to share living in such a great part of London.

“The ideal place to scout London”

Reviewed 1 Jul 2012

This small cozy apartment is very centrally located. You reach the underground station London Bridge, the Thames bank with several pubs and the nice Borough Market in a 5 minute walk. We can recommend the oldest pub in London "the anchor". We felt very well with 3 people in this modern apartment. The owners were very helpful and friendly. Many thanks to David and Ida. The apartment is just 15 minutes from Liverpool Street, important if you fly from Stansted Airport. When we arrived the fridge was filled with nice things and there was plenty of informations to discover London. We felt very welcome Look at the other comments, we can confirm it. Now we've found the perfect home for our next stay in London... Many greets from Germany.

Owner's reply: Thanks for your positive comments. We hope to welcome you back in the future!

“Adorable and well cared for”

Lovely apartment, very good facilities and the landlord David is very helpful. He was even kind enough to drop us to the airport on our return. The location too is very convenient. There is a haven of restaurants around with easy access to prominent locations. Thanks David. We are coming back soon!!!

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind words. We're pleased you enjoyed staying in our accommodation and hope to welcome you back soon.

“Perfect place, amazing experience!”

Reviewed 28 May 2012

Probably the most remarkable feature of this apartment is its host - Robert - very friendly and make sure that we enjoyed our stay. The apartment is right next to Borough Market/London Bridge. The nearby tube is 5 minutes away. On the same walking distance there are wide choices of restaurants, health club (Fitness First) and grocers which means logistics were quite easy. It has one bedroom (washroom attached) and a hall facing a lovely backyard. The rooms were very clean, organized and furnished to a high standard. The kitchen had almost all sort of utensils and equipments, tea bags, coffee maker etc. Wifi was great! Nothing can be mentioned as a negative point about this apartment except it was a bit small, though that didn't matter to us as it was perfect for three of us. Overall, a great experience and definitely we now know the place to stay for our next trip! Cheers

Owner's reply: So glad you enjoyed your stay. Thanks for taking the time to leave a review.

“Brand new apartment, well equiped and well located, with a very friendly landlord”

Reviewed 8 May 2012

We spent one very pleasant week with my daughter in this brand new apartment. It is well equiped with all the necessary equipment (everything is brand new). It is located on the ground floor of the owner's home, in a quiet street, and very near to London Borough Market and London Bridge underground station. And the landlord is very friendly ! I highly recommend this holiday rental.

Owner's reply: Merci. We are delighted you liked the apartment and we'll try our best to keep it as good as you described it!
