A one-bedroom elegant contemporary apartment in an historic granary overlooking the Tweed Estuary. The property was recently awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence 2018, a five star award based on the experiences of guests in the last year.

Four Mill Wharf is on the first floor of this award winning conversion, provides excellent accommodation for couples, and is easily accessible by lift or stairs.

New for 2019. We have reconfigured the bedroom to make space for a European double size bed with luxurious memory foam topper for added comfort for our guests.

The open plan living space has amazing views across the fascinating harbour and estuary towards the historic walled town of Berwick upon Tweed, and to the sea beyond. It offers the opportunity to spot the famous Berwick swans, grey seals, and dolphins.

The apartment is located on the South side of the river. A short and picturesque walk across the arched 17th century old stone bridge takes you to the wide array of restaurants, shops, tea rooms, pubs, and a cinema/theatre in Berwick town.

Only four miles from the Scottish Borders, Four Mill Wharf makes an ideal base to explore this coastal and river location, with excellent beach and town walks close by. Further afield is the beautiful Northumberland coast with its castles and wide beaches of this magnificent heritage coastline, including the tidal island of Lindisfarne. To the West is the wild, lonely beauty of the Cheviot Hills and the Northumberland National Park. To the North are the Lammermuir Hills, and the quaint harbours of St. Abbs and Eyemouth.

Only one mile from Berwick train station with excellent links to Edinburgh and Newcastle for days out in the city.

Getting around

Berwick is ideally situated for train links to London, Edinburgh and Newcastle via the mainline routes. There are regular bus services to surrounding towns and several scenic coastal bus services from Berwick to Newcastle. Berwick town is easily accessible on foot from the apartment and the stroll to town gives lovely views over the river and out to sea. There is free parking available in Berwick. If you just want to potter around Berwick and enjoy some local walks you can probably abandon your car during the holiday. If you bring your car you will find most of the roads are comparatively quiet and you will enjoy many beautiful views as you drive around Northumberland

Interaction with guest

We do not live on site. The granary conversion is a multi occupancy building and as we cannot leave keys for collection we will welcome you personally at the beginning of your stay. After that we are hands- off unless you need our assistance. We will ask you for an estimated time of arrival so we can greet you. We try to be flexible on entry and leaving times. If we have been able to complete the changeover early we will text you to let you know before the 3pm arrival time. If we have no guests arriving on the day of your departure we can be flexible on the 10am leaving time. Guests leave the keys in the post box on departure. We can suggest things to do, restaurants, and hidden gems in the area.

“Staying in England's border town”

Berwick upon Tweed is a medieval wall town and absolutely amazing to walk round. The flat was well placed for the town centre and all attractions. The accommodation was warm and well furnished and met all our needs. The north whilst windy and wild was very welcoming.

“Ideal location for a trip to Berwick upon Tweed”

We were met on arrival by Keith and Louise and presented with a tray containing tea, cofffee, sugar and a very tasty home made cake. We were shown around the apartment and operation of TV, cooker, central heating, shower etc explained. Had we not known this area, Keith was ready to detail places of interest. A good selection of books and leaflets are available. The apartment is conveniently situated within 10 minutes walk of the town centre across the medieval bridge. Bridge Street and all of its interesting attractions are less than this. Asda and a Spar shop are minutes walk away. The view from the apartment to the town and its walls, although it is opposite the entrance to Tweedmouth dock, is spectacular at all times of the day. Facilities within the apartment are of the highest standard. Secure parking behind locked gates is available but could be a problem to large vehicles. Am looking forward to my next stay.
