Barnstaple

Barnstaple is the commercial centre of the region, combining sophisticated shopping with the bustling atmosphere of markets and speciality shops. The modern Green Lanes Shopping Centre compliments the traditional Pannier and Craft Markets held since 1855 in the Pannier Market Hall.

This attractive market town is the oldest and largest town in North Devon, nestling in the Taw valley on the other side of the estuary which the Saxons first settled in Barnstaple (Barum) over 1000 years ago.

The Long Bridge, crossing the tidal River Taw was thought to have been built in the 12th and 13th centuries and in Litchdon Street are located the Penrose Almshouses built in the early 17th century.

Wonderful location and facilities for our golden wedding anniversary celebration. Ages from1year to 72 love Combrew plenty to do on sight for the youngsters and comfort and luxury for the seniors..Excellent location for beaches and other attractions

“Great central location with friendly service and great facilities”

Reviewed 15 Jun 2015

Group of 8 adults and 3 children. On arrival everything was clean and tidy, with everything in good condition and nice decoration. More than enough living space, with room to spread out. Huge table in the kitchen area for our meals in. We enjoyed enjoyed all the facilities on-site, especially the lovely swimming pool. The kids enjoyed the play area, and some of the adults the chance to sneak off for a game of pool or table tennis. One of those places where all the little details are just right which made our stay one of the best we've had. Our hosts couldn't have done more to help.

“Excellent Stay”

Rose Barn Cottage. Excellent accommodation. Everything you could possibly need is provided. Children (and adults ) enjoyed the pool. Used every day. Great play area for the children. Plenty of room for all of us. 8 Adults, 3 children under 5 plus dog! Great hosts, loved the eggs. Lots to do in the surrounding area. Children loved the beaches even if it was windy. Will definitely come again.

“A perfect family holiday in a peaceful, rural location.”

Rose Barn Cottage, complete with stone troughs of pretty flowers by the front door, was perfect for our extended family of 13 (ages ranging from 4-75!). It was furbished and equipped to a very high standard and spotlessly clean. All the facilities onsite (tennis, badminton, games room, swimming pool, children's play area with great scenery for adults!) were enjoyed by everyone, especially the superbly maintained lovely warm pool. The location of Combrew Farm was ideal for those of us that enjoyed cycling (mountain bikes available for hire onsite) and walking, and with the shops only a short car journey away we never went without! We had a really delicious Sunday lunch at the Fremington Quay Cafe which was within walking distance of Combrew Farm. You need to arrive in good time though…..it's very popular! The warm friendly welcome on arrival, and the help that we received during our stay were very much appreciated. We are already looking forward to our return in April 2016!

“Perfect for extended family gatherings”

Another lovely week at Combrew. It's closeness to the Tarka cycle trail is a big attraction for us. As usual we have come home feeling very relaxed.

“A perfect base for a family holiday”

We stayed in Rose Barn cottage which is two cottages with a connecting door, the cottages were very spacious which was great with 6 children and 5 adults. There was plenty of crockery cutlery and glasses and a fabulous large table which seated everyone at mealtimes. The pool was enjoyed by everyone it was very warm and very clean. The play park with the 3 large trampolines were very much enjoyed by the children. We hope to visit again soon.

“Awesome”

Brilliant cottage (or 2 cottages with linking doors). Both with plenty of space and kept very well. There was 12 of us in total including 3 kids aged 3, 1 and 7 months and we all fit in perfectly. During the booking, the owners called me and were very helpful and answered all questions in very quick time, exactly what most want when looking for a holiday. Owners were just next door, which was great for when we needed anything (like to borrow their BBQ) but they were not intruding at all. Tennis court, badminton/volley ball court with lights so we played at night, trampolines, animals, small park, indoor pool with built in jacuzzi and jets, sauna, games room. Couldn't ask for much more, especially for the price. In terms of the area, there is plenty to do for both adults and kids, close to many beaches too, great days out included Exmoor Zoo and Big Sheep and Fremington Quay is a walk away which serves awesomely big scones! A great holiday made complete by a great cottage, facilities and owners. Highly recommended!

“It was so good we've booked for next year!!!”

We had a great stay at Rose Barn cottage, 12 of us went for new year and was everything we could have wanted. The pool, sauna and bikes were great. The cottage has everything that you could ever need and more. I would highly recommend this property and location so much so, that we have booked for next year.

“3* prices for almost 5* accommodation.”

Where to start? The web site, I had to compliment the owners early on for an excellent web site that gives you almost all the information you need. Due to the constant improvements being carried out the published brochure that we received was a little out of date but that’s understandable. Just before arrival why not book a veg and fruit delivery – ours was excellent! When booking any accommodation the published photos are usually well out of date and on arrival you often find the interior rather tired looking but not with this property, every room, every facility met or exceeded our expectations. Sadly the sauna was out of order for our stay but the pool was great and used at least once a day by the family. If you are into badminton equipment is supplied so you don’t need your own. A few comments for dog owners (and if you are not rest assured some of the accommodation is strictly pet free). Local walks are excellent but be careful on the single track road outside the complex. If you enjoy walking with a watering hole on route, turning either left or to the right on the main road will take you to a dog friendly pub, both of which serve food. According to my mate Tom Tom one is 0.7 miles and the other a little further at 0.75 miles. Of course that is fine for we owners but what do our canine friends really like? For ours it was the beaches. As far as we could see most beaches had seasonal restrictions but only for part of the area. Even in November some beach car parks were still charging but nothing extortionate and the quality of the beaches made that worthwhile. As much as we have enjoyed our pre-Christmas family get-togethers over the years we have always found somewhere new for the next gathering. Combrew Cottages will be the first destination where we all agree that it is a place that we will return to at some point in the future – what more can I say?

“A great place for a family holiday”

The Cottage is a lovely reteat from a busy city life. Cosy but very spacious. It really is wonderful place for a family of all ages, our party ranged from 3months to 76years and each and every one of us enjoyed the break. The kids loved the play ground, feeding the animals and playing in the swimming pool whilst the adults enjoyed working out in the gym, playing table tennis and generally relaxing within the cottage. Waking up to fresh eggs was something everyone looked forward to! We were lucky enough to have some beautiful weather to enjoy a BBQ in the garden, and would highly recommend visiting Woolacombe beach. There is an aray of attractions close by,there is lots of leaflets in the cottage for you to look at, we visited several!! Sue and her family were fantastic hosts, really friendly and very helpful. On call whenever to help us. Would love to visit again!
