North Cottage on the Scargill Estate is a secluded self-catering holiday home, converted from the original Thwaite Farmhouse and Barns in 2006. This self-catering cottage has stunning views over the beautiful countryside of Teesdale, near Barnard Castle. The Scargill Estate itself encompasses attractive moorland and woodland, featuring abundant wildlife of special interest to bird enthusiasts. There are numerous lovely walks on the moor and along the River Greta. The stunning rural location of Thwaite Cottages is only 15 minutes drive to the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, 15 minutes from the town of Barnard Castle, and 45 minutes from Durham City.
The cottage is furnished to a very high standard and very well equipped, providing home comforts ideal for families and couples alike. It sleeps four guests, has a garden with patio furniture and lots of parking space.
North Cottage has a twin aspect tastefully furnished sitting room with views across the open countryside and a traditional open log fire (logs provided). The French windows open and lead onto the patio and large fenced garden. There is a bright, spacious and fully fitted dining/kitchen with a very well equipped kitchen.
The Master Bedroom is on the ground floor and has a King size bed, wardrobe, bedside cabinets and lamps, cheval mirror and chest of drawers. The family bathroom has a bath/shower, WC and heated towel rail.
The twin bedroom is on the first floor and has two single beds, wardrobe, chest of drawers and chair. The en suite bathroom has a bath/shower, WC and heated towel rail.
There is a large fenced garden in the back and parking is available in front of the cottage.
- Any amendments made to the reservation after booking will incur an additional administrative fee of £25.
- Dogs welcome at £20 per dog (up to 2 dogs). Please keep dogs under control at all times, especially near farm animals, and do not leave them alone in the cottage.
- Please dry your wet or dirty dogs before allowing them on the carpets, and do not let them on the furniture or beds. Please remove all dog mess from all outside areas.
- Gardens/Outside areas not necessarily dog proof, even if fenced/walled.
- No events or parties to be held in the cottage, and please be considerate towards your neighbours and other guests.
- Wi-Fi signal may be intermittent due to remote location.
- Mobile phone signal is poor, also due to remote location - payphone in cottage for your convenience.
- In the cottage you'll find a Guest Information folder, with details of places to eat out, ideas for local walks and day trips, and other practical information such as opening times of supermarkets and local attractions. This information will also be emailed to you with your Arrival Details.
