A delightful, 3 bedroom house set in the beautiful village of Alstonefield; less than a mile from Dovedale in the heart of the Peak

Our property is Grade II listed and was originally the Black Lion public house. In 1782 it, along with the adjoining properties, became the Alstonefield Poor Law Union Workhouse. In later years it has also served as a variety of different shops, including one from which the locals could purchase fish and chips.

Now called The Hermitage, it was recently renovated to a very high standard; the property is still “chock a block” with beams and original features, including a restored range in the kitchen; absolutely loads of character.

Please note that the stairs down to the cellar and up to the first floor are the original stone ones and are slightly uneven; special care should be taken by the young, elderly, infirm and inebriated.

There is parking for a single car outside the property and three free car parks in the village, all within two minutes walk.

    The cottage was beautiful and fully equip. The hosts were very responsive and accommodated our requests. We just wished we could have stayed longer, therefore will hope to go back very soon.
