Two Bedroom Penthouse Kings Cross
An excellent apartment, in a great position
Having now stayed in several of Clive's "Love London Apartments" and been delighted with each one, I was fairly optimistic that I would be happy here. And I certainly was!
First, the position. Literally less than five minutes walk from Kings Cross/St Pancras Stations. Don't be put off by the entrance - through a large, heavy and clearly very secure gate between shops at the very bottom of Caledonian Road, which takes you into a service yard. An external staircase takes you one floor up to another secure door into a set of internal stairs - Clive's apartment is on the top (third) floor.
A hallway leads to the two bedrooms and a bathroom on this floor. The master bedroom is at the front - large double bed and a separate shower and wc. There is a set of drawers but no wardrobe in this room, but in the second bedroom there is a large wardrobe. For coats etc there is a convenient rail on the landing, just inside the front door.
Both beds are extremely comfortable - with top quality good weight duvets - certainly up the high standard of Clive's other apartments I have stayed in.
Both bathrooms have modern high quality fittings, with a decent size bath in one with excellent overhead shower and a good sized shower cubicle and 'rain' shower in the other.
The main bedroom looks out onto the busy road junction below, but being four floors up and with decent double glazing traffic noise wasn't a problem - perhaps except for the sirens of emergency vehicles - something you seem to get in any city these days. I'm a very light sleeper so I always carry earplugs when staying in any city centre hotel or apartment, so it didn't bother me. The second bedroom looks out onto the rear courtyard. And if you wonder what the odd 'rumble sound' is - I discovered that although four floors up, you can sometimes hear the Northern Line tube from deep below ground!
From the hall a set of stairs leads up to the spacious open plan kitchen/dining and sitting room on the floor above. The 'galley' kitchen is extremely well equipped - everything seems to have been thought of - and all of a very good quality - something unfortunately rather rare in many rental apartments. There is plenty of light in the room, from both a skylight in the kitchen area and windows on the other side. There are two comfy settees (one makes into an extra bed - I didn't try it so can't comment) and a circular glass topped table for dining.
I can heartily recommend the apartment! Virtually next door to Kings CrossStPancras tube stations (the biggest interchange I think on the Underground system, with five lines - Hammersmith and City, Circle, Northern, Victoria and Piccadilly - so you can reach most places in London within minutes. There are also many buses that serve the stations as well. There are lots of shops (and very good Tesco just two minutes walk), and plenty of bars and restaurants - I tried the small Italian - which was very good and inexpensive just up the street from the apartment, but unfortunately can't remember the name. All in all a great place to stay - and I shall be back! …
