“The most relaxing place in Scotland... perhaps on Earth!” The highlight of my trip to Scotland was sitting in the observatory of Lusta Cottage and enjoying the splendid view while sipping a warm cup of tea! We watched the sunsets, the rainbows and the sheep grazing on the croft below us. It is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and I had not felt so relaxed in years! The cottage was cozy and bright, and provided ample space for the six of us. Our two young children loved running around the cottage and were kept entertained with the toys and DVDs that were available. The owners were very friendly and helpful. They provided a lot of useful information about the cottage and the surrounding area (where to eat, where to shop, where to hike, etc.). I was initially concerned with its remote location, being far from the places that we wanted to visit, but this great cottage makes the drive back and forth all worth it. I would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended!

“It really was a 'home from home' for us!” Having stayed at a number of cottages over the years there is always a slight ‘gloss’ in the description of the property you decide to rent. However Kirsty’s Cottage is undersold!! The cottage is equipped with everything you could possibly need including all the basics you may require for the first few days tea, coffee, washing up liquid etc. Andy has done a fantastic job of developing the cottage and making great use of the space – checkout the pictures on Facebook. The new kitchen is well designed with the separate utility room with plenty of space for your ruck sack and muddy boots after a good walk! The cottage was exceptionally clean and tidy and had a lovely feel. Dawn came to greet us on our arrival and ran through all the basics. We arrived after dark so didn’t get to see the views until the morning. The sun room is perfectly placed for a sunny warm breakfast and the seals were sat on the rock in the bay just as predicted! The views are stunning from the cottage and there are plenty of walks in the local area. It’s such a great place to relax and unwind. Kirsty’s cottage is a good central location from which to explore the island and is close to Portree for shopping or boat trips. Dawn and Andy were more than happy to give us advice on possible trips. They had also provided a very good pack of literature including a book on walks around Skye which came in very useful. We travelled to all corners of Skye in search of wildlife and were fortunate to have two very sunny weeks which meant the views were stunning. It was a great two weeks of relaxing and unwinding. Only down side was the long journey it took us to get there from the south of England!

“Most Relaxing Self Catering Holiday on Skye” We have just had the most wonderful week on the Isle of Skye. This cottage is first class - no matter the weather. The sun shone for most of the holiday and we only had one day of rain (the cottage is so comfortable and the panoramic views so pleasing, we were more than happy to stay indoors). Everything you could possibly need is available and the owner is especially welcoming and helpful. There is an abundance of wild life on the doorstep (birds, rabbits, otters & Sea Eagles). The cottage is approx 7 minutes from Portree by car and is very central for visiting the whole island. My husband and I have no hesitation in recommending this as a first class establishment.

“Beautiful scenery and friendly owner, a great place to stay and” John, the owner, knows all the best places to visit on Skye and was able to help us plan our days. This was our second visit to the Barn and we found it to be very comfortable with good road access to the rest of Skye. We plan on returning for a third visit quite soon.

“Unique Skye” The Anchorage has a wonderful view over the harbour at Kyleakin, across to the mainland and to the Skye bridge and Raasay island beyond. There are window seats that you can lie on to read the many interesting books on the area (or slow Agar cooking) and watch both the weather and boats come and go. This is the best part of the Anchorage. When we arrived, the house was quite cold because the underfloor heating that underlies the main kitchen/window seating area was on a timer and was not going to fire for another hour or so. (This is the main form of heating along with the Agar in the heart of the kitchen area, and there is a firebox in the lounge.) However, Richard, who was always helpful and kind, explained how to override the setting so we could get it going and once we had the hang of that, we were warm enough. The upstairs bedrooms were warmed by electric oil/fan heaters on thermostat controls. I was hesitant about using the Agar for all of our cooking (there is no conventional oven or cooktop), but I found that once you relax into it (take your time!) the results were delicious. Also, you can fold your washing up and leave it on the top overnight and wake up to dry and warm clothes! However, the constant fuel smell that accompanies the Agar was something to get used to, for us anyway. The beds (two large doubles) are topped by thick foam toppers which wasn't quite to our taste, so that is something to be aware of if you are overly particular like us: I admit that most people would probably like the experience of sinking into them. The house was well stocked with cooking utensils etc., but I was a bit surprised that there weren't a few complimentary staple-type supplies available. There was only half a bottle of sunflower oil and a little flaked sea salt by the stove. The nearest supermarkets in Kyle and Broadford are good and we found we were always nearby one of them on our travels and could pick up what we needed. Skye itself was the star of the show and despite a week of rain we managed to hike up into the Cuillins (I recommend walkinghighlands.com which provides info on walks of all kinds and lengths) and visited the extremeties of each coast. We also took the ferry over to Rassay and visited the clearance village of Hallaig (recommended). We also discovered the Cuillin brewery which makes a very nice black beer, 'Black Face', which kept us watered while we were there. Skye is such a unique place and the wonderful books Richard has tucked into the storage of the window seats whets the appetite for further journeys into the Hebrides. The Anchorage also occupies a unique position on Skye. Thank you Richard for sharing it.
