“Just perfect! More than met our expectations” We were a group of 5 couples from Singapore, new Zealand, united states and the uk, meeting up for 3 days before a wedding at Great Fosters hotel. Gt Tangley with its history, character, beautiful dining room, and ample space was the perfect location for us to meet up and host a BBQ for 40 family and friends. Nicho met us and gave an informative tour including all the history which was lovely. The only criticism from our guests was the shower in the older part of the building, I did advise them before hand that only one room was ensuite but we all were accommodating of each other. Every one loved it, took walks round the grounds and didn't want to leave!
Four complete novice guys aged 41, 58, 65 and 71 took on a weekend on Box of Delights. We worked out a route north to Addlestone with 3 nightime stopovers. We were given a comprehensive instruction including accompaniment to the first lock. We had a fantastic weekend which was a learning curve and where we made the odd mistake, we found other barge users extremely helpful and friendly.
The barge was like a long caravan but with everything you could possibly need. Just poodling along the river was very calming and relaxing and by the end, we were getting through the locks quite professionally. Well almost. Wonderful weekend. …
Fantastic experience on the unique Wey navigation
After a helpful boat navigation and lock tutorial (we were complete novices!) from Ray and Julie, our crew of two pootled off for our 4 day break to experience the delights of this beautiful stretch of water. After some minor navigating difficulties (a small matter of a grounding!) plus a little more patient telephone coaching from Ray, we became accustomed to the benefits of the very helpful bow thrusters.
The boat itself was spotlessly clean and was beautifully equipped with everything you could possibly need. Who knew you could fit so much in a small space, and certainly more storage than I was expecting. A fascinating, tranquil few days with the ever changing scenery being a feast for the eyes, we have never seen so many dragonflies. During our short break the weather was fantastic (if a little too hot for all that physical lock work!) and we got up to Coxes Lock at Addlestone, then returned and travelled to just north of Godalming before returning Stepping Stones to its home mooring. We particularly enjoyed stopping on Guildford Meadows one evening, walking across the Ferry Bridge and having a yummy pizza at the Ship Inn at St Catherines after working up a major appetite during the day. It's funny how you get a totally different perspective on a town when travelling by water, quite fascinating.
Anyway, it's not very often you finish a holiday with such a sense of exhilaration and achievement, so it will last long in our memories. I would thoroughly recommend Stepping Stones for a really uniqueholiday, and also thank Ray and Julie for sharing their lovely boat with us. …
Beaufield Mews, Shere
Reviews were great but the experience exceeded expectations
We stayed for the month of February 2018 so my wife could recover from an operation leaving her immobile for 2-3 weeks. The apartment was as advertised, modern, clean etc. The location in the heart of Shere was perfect and the Co-op shop 50 yards away was invaluable. The second bedroom was a real bonus for family visiting for the night and really glad we went for a two bedroom apartment particularly both being en-suite.
Previous blogs mentioned how helpful and understanding Carol the owner was. Carol was very keen to make sure we were comfortable and warm ( -6 C one or two nights). The heating in the apartment was very efficient and more than warm enough. Carol went out of her way and organised in advance a shower seat for my wife which typified her attention to detail and determination to make sure our stay met our exptectations.
A big thank you to you Carol, Beaufield Mews exceeded our hopes and we would certainly come back for a long weekend and strongly recommend your apartment to others. …
BEAUTIFUL CONTEMPORARY HOUSE IN A GREAT LOCATION
Had a wonderful stay the house was immaculate and garden area lovely would love to go back during Summer.
Only disappointment was the communication with food options, I never received any menus or options to have food prepared at the house so we ordered a Thai takeaway which was really poor quality.
All in all though a great day spent at the house. …
Five Pines - secluded woodland cabin in the Surrey Hills
We had a perfect week in the beginning of December. The secluded cottage is surrounded by beautiful countryside and wildlife. Inside, the dwelling is warm, well appointed and has everything you need. Close access to Guildford, Cranleigh and the pretty village of Shere. Peter and Gill were very friendly and helpful indeed. Best value and a wonderful retreat from a hectic work schedule. …
Great Tangley Manor 11th Century moated Manor House set in beautiful grounds
A wonderful weekend we"ll never forget
We stayed for a long weekend at the beginning of February to celebrate a 50th Birthday. We were extremely excited about having the pleasure of sharing this historical family home & having the opportunity to experience life in such a beautiful place....& we weren't disappointed!
The manor was very well equipped for self catering & the eleven of us felt very comfortable and at home. The pool was the perfect temperature & a super size. Unfortunately we didn't have time to play tennis or croquet. Guildford is a short drive away & there are some nice local walks. To be quite honest, we ran out of time to go exploring too far as we just enjoyed spending time together at Tangley. We had a wonderful 20's themed fancy dress murder mystery party on Saturday evening and the dark wood panelled dining room was the perfect setting for it.
Thank you so much Nico for keeping shtum about the surprise family visitor from Australia!
Many many thanks to the family for allowing us to share your beautiful Manor. …
