“A perfect retreat” Lovely modern studio and very well equipped, situated down a very long farm track (take it steady, unmade road), Great for a weekend getaway to unwind with walks straight from the door and only 10 minutes by car to Forest cycle trails. Monmouth is an easy drive for an afternoon's shopping and sightseeing. If you need a little gem to stay in for peace and relaxation in beautfiful countryside, then Little Owl is the place to go.
“Christmas vacation” We had a lovely time at Ellis Lodge. It was very clean and had just about everything we could need. Jackie was extremely helpful. The bedrooms were very well appointed and the kitchen/diner was ideal. As we had small children it would have been nice to have had a couple of plastic plates/cups etc... but that it just a small point. The log burner made the living room very cosy. It's a short car ride from Coleford which has all the amenities you need. Monmouth has a lovely Waitrose and M&S simply food. From the house itself there a couple of nice walks to do. All in all it was a great base and we would recommend it to others. A great place to enjoy a Christmas holiday with family
“Perfect Woodland Lodge!” The woodland lodge was absolutely lovely, with all home comforts available at the accommodation. The lodge was tastefully set up, and attention was paid to all the features, even down to the smallest item. The ‘woodland’ theme was carried out through the lodge.
Accommodation was very clean and welcoming.
Ideal for an autumn cosy night in, with fleece blankets available – even a hot water bottle was provided! (although this wasn’t used during our stay since we found that the lodge was nice and warm).
Comfortable beds, plenty of space for everyone, and the lounge TV was huge!!
Lovely settings and the park itself was quiet and private. A security gate on the main entrance to the site provided an extremely secure site, and access was only through a coded electronic gate access. Few other lodges on site - about 10 units in total located at present.
Plenty of area around the lodge for children to play, or for adults to sit out enjoying a glass of wine!
Must say a big thank you to the owners for a wonderful stay ☺
“Bliss at Badger's End” Another lovely stay at Badger's End Cottage, nothing is too much trouble for the owners who are extremely accommodating. The cottage is beautifully kept and in a great location for exploring the Forest of Dean and surrounding area. We will be back for our third stay.
“A brilliant stay” Amazing and relaxing place to stay. Great welcome and accommodating owners throughout stay. Very child friendly. Cottage very clean and comfortable, suited our needs exactly. Wonderful views. Lots of freedom for the children who enjoyed seeing all the animals on the farm - pigs, horses, dogs, chicken and ducks. Great hot tub to enjoy after cycling and walking. Cottage centrally based for all the attractions in the Forest of Dean. Would highly recommend.
“Lovely place to stay. Great unexpected find.” This area was new to us and we were on a short trip visiting a relative about half an hour away. We did not have time to explore but would love to return and do so. The accommodation was clean, comfortable, peaceful and attractive. We had our two dogs with us and we all enjoyed our stay. The orchard was lovely and the signed path field walks across the road very convenient and enjoyable - lovely views. Locals we met on walks were very friendly.
“Lovely comfortable cottage” Hector's House was a lovely, clean and well equipped cottage. It felt like staying in a home rather than a rental property. The communication from Lynda before the stay was really good, telling us everything we needed to know. I would recommend this property to anyone wanting a relaxing break in the Forest of Dean.
“Beautiful cottage, great location!” I stayed at the cottage for a weekend with a group of friends for a wedding and it was perfect! Beautifully decorated, comfortable, with everything we needed. Lovely location with a great pub a few minutes walk away. Great price too, would definitely recommend. Just wish we could have stayed longer!
“Cosy little cottage in a beautiful setting.” Easy access to lots of lovely places to visit, however, the week we went the weather was not favorable so we did not do as many of the walks as we would have liked but we were able to come back to the lovely warm cottage and play games/watch DVDs or things we had on "Sky plus"/read and generally chill out.
The cottage was well equipped for our stay with chocolate muffins included in the welcome tray. The only down side was difficulty drying washing.
There is a huge garden in front of the cottage where your dogs can run so long as they are not the sort to run off as it is not completely enclosed.
A bit of a walk from the car to the barn (though they are hoping to rectify this) but they took all our luggage on the tractor for us on the day we left.
Shirley, Mike and their dogs were very friendly and we greatly enjoyed our stay. Hope to go back sometime.
“Effortlessly comfortable” Perfect location for all of the favourite things to visit. Puzzle wood, Sculpture trail, Perrygrove train, clear well caves and coleford all 15 minutes away. There is a small shop at the end of the lane and a pub. Plenty of outdoor space to take advantage of with forest on your doorstep! The kids loved running around in the paddock and using the cute train and plane, both of which kept our little one amused. The kids and adults alike used the courtyard which is equipped with benches and bbq facilities. On arrival we were greeted by Elaine and shown to our accommodation, travel cot and stair gate had been provided at no extra cost which is always helpful. There was a pint of milk in the fridge, tea, coffee and some choccy bars to welcome us. The stay was comfy with everything we needed. Freshly laundered towels were provided for each person in our party and there were washing and drying facilities for our clothes. We really felt at home here. Having stayed at many rentals in the Forest of Dean it's safe to say that this will be the only one we return to in the future. Thanks for a great break!
“Lovely cottage & fanstastic stay” Booked as a family holiday away for my parents 65th birthday. My parents were very impressed with the cottage and found the attention to detail by Sue the owner outstanding. The cottage has spacious rooms and all the amenities needed for a stress free trip away. You don't have to travel far to find spectacular walks and with a short drive you will discover some excellent pubs with great food and drink. Some great memories were made during the trip and my parents are looking forward to their next visit to the cottage. Thank you Sue for a wonderful stay.
“Just Perfect” We stayed here for 3 nights. Lovely property, a real home away. Everything you need or want in respect of a comfortable self catering break. We intended to eat out at least once (great rated pub 2 doors away) but we were so comfortable cooking and staying in with real log fire we ended up staying in. It seems the owner thought of everything. We went on some great walks in Forest of Dean and Wye Valley. I would not hesitate to recommend a stay at this lovely place.
“A place to rest, recharge and relax” I was expecting something a bit unusual (how does one convert a Chapel into a dwelling...) and I wasn't disappointed, the Old Chapel has lots of charm and quirkiness and at the same time it is very modern, and clean. Lots of attention to details, I particularly liked an enormous folder full of useful information, second best must be the cast iron open stove to curl up in front and third to sleep on the mezzanine floor.
We wish we'd gone later in autumn, the forest must be awesome when the leaves change colours but all the same it is a magical place. If I had to suggest one thing to do I would say an half day trip to Symonds Yat Rock + one of the walks along the river Wye, unforgettable very dramatic scenery.
Thank you guys for a perfect long weekend
“A superb stay!” Nuthatch cottage is an outstanding place to spend your holiday! The cottage has everything you need, the views and surroundings are fantastic and there is so much wildlife. We saw squirrels, foxes, a little deer and so much birds, just from the comfort of the cottage garden. Tim and Vicky are very helpfull and did such a good job with the cottage! In the 25+ years we are travelling England, this was one of the best cottages we rented. The cats Magnus and Nemo visited us in the garden on a daily basis and are a bonus! Jasper is a good old dog and always loves a hug! We make sure we come back to Nuthatch cottage very soon!
