Hiking & Walking Holiday Accommodation in Durham - Holiday Lettings
“Fabulous house in a quiet but accessable location” The Shutters is a fantastic house in a great location. The house more than matches up to the pictures and ad on the holiday guide - you will not be disappointed! The decoration, furniture, fittings and facilities are all 1st class.
We stayed in November and the house was lovely and cosy - the gas wood burning stove is a great addition as it gives a direct heat to anyone sitting relaxing in the lounge without the rest of the house being stifling hot.
The location is ideal for visiting Northumberland, Durham, Teesside and many parts of Yorkshire. For horse racing enthusiasts, the location is great for visiting many courses including Newcastle(30mins), Sedgefield(30 mins) and Hexham(40mins). The coast is within easy striking distance and would recommend a visit to the Victorian seaside resort of Saltburn by the Sea.
A return visit is definitely on the cards.
“Wonderful New year stay” We had an wonderful week which was a great way to start the new year. The accommodation was perfect for our two families. It has everything you could need and finished to a very high standard. The hot tub was frequently used despite the rain as it is undercover. It is a beautiful location and we will definitely go back.
“A lovely weekend with friends” I chose this cottage because we were a very big group, 18 people, and this house was definitely big enough to accommodate all of us. We spend only a weekend there as part of a birthday party and we had a lovely time!
The house is very well equipped; living room is pretty comfortable and has a table pool which is a plus and the kitchen was clean and had everything we needed. The house was warm and beds comfy although some of them a bit small for adults...
Peter was very kind and let us left the property a bit later than the check-out time which was much appreciated from all of us.
We didn't think it was going to be so close to the farm, in particular to the stables but that wasn't a big problem really. The only thing is that we couldn't park many cars in the entrance of the house because we needed to let space for the horses to get to the stables. There is additional parking a bit further away from the house but it was very muddy when we were there so it was a bit of a nuisance to have to walk that distance as your shoes got all muddy. But hey, at the end of the day, you are in the countryside!
Overall a very good experience. I would definitely recommend this cottage for large group of friends looking to spend a weekend in the countryside
“Best holiday apartment we have ever experienced.” We have stayed in many short let apartments around England and this was the best ever. Chris, the host, met us at the station and ensured that we were comfortably settled; subsequently, when the DVD broke down, he was there almost immediately with a replacement - he did everything to make us feel at home and welcome.
The apartment is ideally situated, just across the bridge from the centre of Durham, with a lovely view of the river - though it was too cold to use the patio it was a pleasure having breakfast and looking out at the rowers training.
The decor was lovely - furniture comfortable and in excellent condition, everything tastefully chosen. The beds deserve particular mention: lots of goose feather/down pillows and fluffy duvets.
There were much appreciated touches such as a welcome basket of biscuits and wine, milk, coffee, tea etc so that we didn't have to go straight to the supermarket, and good quality toiletries. Everything you could possible need was supplied.
We had an excellent week at Elvet Bridge View - it felt like living 'at home', not in a rented apartment.
“City Centre comfort” Lovely, well equipped and specified apartment. Great environment to relax for a few days. Only downside was beyond owners control - a very busy and noisy BH weekend, so overnight not as quiet as we would have liked.
“Lovely cottage and area” Just come back from a great weekend at cranford cottage, the place was lovely and the owners were very helpful and friendly. There were plenty of walks around the village with our dog and a shop just across the road. The welcome pack and dog treats were a thoughtful added extra. Would definitely recommend and would love to stay again
“Perfect place to visit County Durham” The cottage was ideal for our holiday, it was very clean and tidy everything was maintained to a very high standard really impressed.
The owners Dot and Dave were very friendly and helpful and a mine of information about the area.
Lots of places to visit the Beamish Museum was excellent as were the High and Low force waterfalls many enjoyable walks and of course Durham itself we would definitely use the cottage again when visiting the area.
“Fantastic Property/Location” We, 4 friends of 70 years of age stayed in this property during May 2012.. It is very well equipped, modern, light and has beautiful views of the river. We had a fantastic time.
We forgot some birthday presents for our grandchildren and Sarah's son kindly sent these
to us with delivery the next morning. Thanks. Can highly recommend.
