We were very lucky to stay at The Games Barn again over Easter. Just as before we found the farm a home from home - packed ALOT less toys for the children as you simply dont need much, what with all the games in the barn and a wonderful farm on your doorstep.
Madeleine again was an absolute star, our children had such a wonderful time - my 6 year old daughter fed and helped out with the feed morning and afternoon and was given little 'jobs' ( my youngest was poorly so sadly couldnt participate an awful lot ) Mummy and Daddy loved heloing out too!
This place has everything you need for a wonderful time. It's become a special place for us and our family and we cannot wait to return next year.
Response: Thanks for this - we were delighted to see you all again and can't wait for you to come back.

“A perfect home from home farm experience for all ages!”
We stayed here for the whole christmas week 2012 and had the most perfect time. Yes the weather was wet and miserable but this didnt matter at all - our 3 young girls and our parents all loved it equally and we are thrilled that we chose the games barn as the location for our first ever christmas away! The barn is so so well equipped with absolutely everything we needed and we instantly felt at home. My husband adored the log burning stove and was constantly making sure we were all warm and toasty. Madeleine and Fred could not have made us more welcome, in particular our girls, who were allowed to feed all the animals and collect the eggs every day. Such an experience eating them straight away for breakfast! Mayfield is also lovely and we had a wonderful family lunch at the Rose and Crown pub on Christmas eve - we were looked after so well and the food was delicious. My parents also ate out at the Middle House Hotel which they said was fantastic too! We ordered farm produce while we we were at the games barn, a leg of pork for christmas dinner and sausages too and we can honestly say they were the best we have ever tasted! Well done Fred and Madeleine, you are doing a fab job of creating somewhere relaxed and peaceful to stay that is perfect for all ages! We definitely want to return!
Response: Thank you so much for this lovely review and we are very pleased that, despite the truly awful weather, you still managed to have a lovely holiday here. You are most welcome to return whenever you want to - we would love to see you all again .

“Perfect getaway, children loved helping around the farm”
The barn is in a beautiful setting. The farm is home to some of the most charming animals we have ever met. My children (aged 9 and 11) truly enjoyed meeting up with Madeleine each morning and evening for feeding and learned so much about animal husbandry from her. Madeleine is a treasure who made the trip for my daughter whilst my son explored the nearby trails and woods. The cottage was comfortable and we all really enjoyed our stay.
Response: Thanks so much for this review - your children are little treasures themselves and we are delighted they learnt so much from us. See you again soon we hope
Having returned for the 2nd time we were not disappointed by our visit. Once again Madeleine and Fred were on hand to ensure our stay went as smooth as possible. They seem to have the perfect knack of being available when needed and always with a smile. On this trip to the games barn, as previously, it was very clean and tidy. The wood burner in the evening kept it lovely and warm and Fred was kind enough to provide plenty of wood for us and even show us how to light it. We went with Madeleine to feed the animals morning and evening, they are extremely well cared for. The ducks making their own way from the pond down into their overnight shed in the evening and back up to the pond again in the morning was such a cute sight. The new additions to the farm, 2 female black cows, were absolutely gorgeous. We even gave them a brush each which was a first for us. They are such placid creatures. As always, Chuo the dog kept us entertained (or maybe it was the other way round) with his endless throw and fetch game. Collecting the eggs each day was a thrill, how many would we find upon opening the hatch? And it was lovely to see the chickens wandering around the farm freely during the day. We even had 1 visit us outside the gamesbarn which is something this particular chicken often does. The adult pigs were as large as ever and the 2 litters of piglets were cute and vocal. I was impressed to see that Fred is building concrete feeding platforms for the pigs to eat their food off so that they will no longer have to dig around in the mud. The sheep were blissfully unaware of our presence being left to graze peacfully in their fields. The animals have an idyllic life. And it has to be said that the scenery is breathtaking and peaceful. It was bliss to stand on the decking in the morning and listen to the birds while taking in the lovely fresh air. I relaxed so much and truely didn't want to leave. Finally. we went into Heathfield to buy fish and chips from a shop recommended by Madeleine and Fred. The price was very reasonable and the food was excellent quality. Mayfield is a lovely little village but we got there a little late on the Saturday and found some shops had closed at 1pm so we drove in the opposite direction and had a wander around Heathfield. Except I couldn't wait to get back to the farm, I could shop any other day back at home!! We plan to return again next year and I can honestly say that I can't wait. To be able to unwind and feel so relaxed so quickly is testament to how lovely the games barn, the farm & it's animals and the surroundings are. And of course, the finishing touch is Madeleine's and Fred's welcome and care. I would highly recommend a visit especially if you need a much needed break away from things. To me it is a little piece of heaven. Thank-you Madeleine, Fred and Chuo. See you next year. xx
Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review - we thoroughly enjoyed your company and would love to see you again next year for your 3rd visit. We know how lucky we are to have our own little piece of heaven here and love sharing it with people such as yourselves - it makes all our hard work so worthwhile. Thanks so much once again.

“Fantastic Farm Getaway!”
We stayed at The Games Barn withour Parents and our 2 and 6 year old. The Barn had every comfort you needed, I cant actually believe I packed things for the children to be occupied with as this Barn is packed with Videos, Games (for young and old) and books! However, we didnt really use any of this as we had the most fun exporing and really enjoying daily farm life. You wake up in the morning and look onto a field with your cuppa and watch Charlie the Horse and Summer the Pony grazing. Look a bit to the left you have piglets and a bit more left and you have sheep in the field next to you!
The decking area is great, you can hear the farm's stream trickling waters from your seat.. And if you're lucky Doris the Mummy pig will be having a little rest in her pen of which all can be seen from the Barn!
My daughters (age 2 and 6) were up every morning and also in the afternoon to help Madeleine feed all the animals. They thought this was amzing - getting so close to the animals and learning so much about them too (we did too!!) My eldest loved collecting the eggs and even the little one feeding the chickens and ducks in turn. It was such a delight to see.
There is so much to see at the Farm - from exploring the wildlife pond at the top field, going to see Homer the Daddy Pig ( and goodness me he is HUGE but so gorgeous ) who comes over when he can hear you talking and also the two little cows and some MORE sheep inc. Lambo of course. We had a lovely view of the sun going down also at the top field.
The farm also has ancient woodland to explore by the stream over the weir which we all had great fun seeing Doris have a little drink and also building a little den with fallen sticks.
The farm is situated about a 10 minute walk from Mayfield village, which is a lovley walk through the valley, fields and woodland ( with a great bridge to play The Three Billy Goats Gruff!) Mayfield itself is beautiful with beautiful buildings and you have your pick of some lovely pubs The Middle House being our favourite. You can even order Fred and Madeleine's Pork on the menu! Or you could just stock up while your at the barn as we did - delicious sausages for breakfast with same day fresh duck and hen eggs? Or some lamb for dinner? Yes Please!
We had glorious weather for our week at Cranesden farm and made use of the seaside and Ashdown Forest which are all nearby - it really is an excellent base for walks, cycling and sightseeing - the area is really beautiful....
Fred and Madeleine were so welcoming and were fantastic with our children everyday - we really did have the most special week and were very sad to leave Chewo the Sheep Dog, George and Geraldine and all the other little Ducks and Hens so the only thing to do was to book again for Easter and go back!!
If you are looking for a home from home with beautiful surroundings, great hosts and a real taste of farm life this is absolutely the place for you.....
Response: Thanks so much for this great review. We always try to ensure that our guests can appreciate all aspects of the farm if they wish to, and in your case we clearly succeeded! We are greatly looking forward to seeing you again at Easter.

“Great location, Spacious accommodation - Suits families [--]; large groups”
We have just returned from a great week at the Games Barn. We had 6 children ranging from 2yrs to 13yrs. They all enjoyed feeding the animals, collecting eggs & running free in adjacent fields. The barn is in a peaceful location with friendly owners on hand if needed, but they were never intrusive. There are lots of family attractions nearby & a day at the coast was within easy reach. We would love to return one day. Thank you
Response: Thanks for this review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay so much and we would love to see you here again in the future.
“Perfect location for visiting old haunts and for relaxation”
Gold medal winning , peaceful & relaxing summer break with perfect weather
Nephews loved the video collection ( after I had explained the concept of videos ), the walks , feeding the pigs and playing with Chuo but would have liked some more sports equipment and better badminton raquets
Sister loved the space and peace to draw but would have liked the flies to disappear
Mother loved Bexhill and being able to sit in the sun outside ( the sunburn was unexpected) but would have appreciated a more comfortable chair in the lounge that she could have got in and out of
I loved the silent nights, the walks and local villages but would have liked a more comfortable bed and might come back next time on my own next time! I also should have taken care when coming out of the bathroom ( we were warned in the helpful guide book) as I slipped but was awarded a gold in falling by the judges.
Thanks x
Response: Thanks for this review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay here. We do try and cater for all needs and we are sorry that this was not the case on this occasion. We can (and often have) supply a different, more upright, armchair and we will make this clear in the welcome pack. The badminton set was really intended for young children but has proved very popular with all ages this year so we will invest in some bigger and better bats next year. As far as the beds are concerned, it is very difficult to cater for all preferences. We get many people praising the beds for their comfort but are sorry they were not to your taste. We are glad that, despite these niggles, you would like to come back and we would love to see you again.

“Lovely peaceful place to visit”
We stayed for four nights, and were welcomed on arrival - Fred and Madeleine were very friendly and gave us plenty of information about our stay. The barn was clean and comfortable throughout and beds were very comfortable! We had sheep right outside the bedroom windows in the morning which were lovely to see, however the environment was very quiet and peaceful. Point to note that the laundry room is up quite small steps at the end of the building, so not suitable for disabled access, although the rest of the house is great, we had no problems getting around generally. We bought farm produced sausages during our stay and they were gorgeous!
Response: Thank you for this review. It is great to know that a care home like yours can come here and have such a great time. We agree with your comments about the utility area and we have tried to make this clear in our access statement which is availaible from our website. We do provide a laundry basket to help carry the washing up and down the steps but would urge all our guests to ask for assistance if they need it.

The Games Barn is ideal for a quick getaway from London. Facilities are family friendly, owners are pleasant and the animals were a great attraction for our children. Would recommend to others.

“Absolutely fantastic family break”
We stayed at the Games Barn in late March 2012. We were a group of four adults, 2 children aged 5 and 7 and a 5 month old baby. We were blessed with great weather which just added to the blissful environment we found ourselves in at the Games Barn. The farm was ideal for the children to run around in, not so large that we lost them completely but ample space for them to run around freely. They loved the animals, especially the pigs and horses, but the highlight had to be the 2 chicks being born while we were there. Fred and Madeleine were very welcoming and kindly let the children help them do their feeding rounds. The Barn itself was very comfortable and we found the facilities excellent, there was nothing we felt that was missing. The eggs, bacon and sausages straight from the farm were delicious too, so much so that we had to have a second lot for the next day! The walk into the village isn't long at all and the village itself is very pretty. Overall a great 4 day break and we will thoroughly recommend the Games Barn to other people in the future, thank-you Madeleine and Fred.
Response: Thanks so much for this. We are delighted that you had such a great break and that our farm produce was so enjoyable. Hope to see you again soon.

“What a Brilliant place to stay for young and old.”
A Big thanks to Fred and Madaline for making our stay enjoyable. It is a lovely place to stay and loads to explore. We were a party of 7 and the age ranged from 94 down to 13, plus 2 dogs and everyone was happy. The disabled facilities are very good. We had a fantastic Christmas morning all sat round the kitchen table preparing the dinner; it was everything we were looking for! You can really relax in the spacious quiet Barn, loads of games to play too. We would highly recommend a visit to the Carpenters Arms in Mayfield, who welcomed us with our 2 dogs, we sat in front of a roaring log fire, it was lovely. We will definitely try to go back for another visit and would recommend it whole heartedly, if you are looking for a quiet break in lovely surroundings. Peter and Sarah
Response: Thanks so much for this review - it is great to know that our Barn suits such a wide age range. We hope to see you all again sometime soon.

“Absolutely perfect in every way.”
We found The Games Barn very easily, Madeleine having provided excellent detailed directions to the property (the Sat Nav doesn't quite get you there) down to every bend and turn in the road. As we drove up to The Games Barn Madeleine was waiting to greet us with smiles and welcomes along with her gorgeous Border Collie Dog, Chewo who was very pleased to see us. She promptly took us into the Games Barn and gave us a tour. it was spotlessly clean, bright and airy. She also gave us directions to the local village and another nearby neighbouring village incase we wanted to go and get something to eat (which we did later that evening). Once we'd unloaded the car we were asked if we'd like to meet the animals and see the rest of the farm. We very eagerly said yes. We were not disappointed. It was breath-taking. The animals were well loved and cared for and have an abundance of space to live in. After we were shown around the farm, Madeleine left us to relax and enjoy ourselves. The following day we walked to Mayfield Village. It's very quaint with various cafes, gift-shops etc, quite surprising and lovely for what is basically 1 road. We chose to return using the public footpath cut through but somehow managed to get ourselves lost but a hasty call to Madeleine soon had us heading in the right direction again. It's a lovely, scenic walk but I wouldn't recommend wearing flip-flops or the like as you walk through long grass and woodland, and it took us approx 20 mins in total (excluding our own detour!). We spent a long weekend here and totally relaxed. I have to admit that we didn't venture out any further but this was because we were more than content to stay at the farm. It was a weekend away to unwind and we did just that. Madeleine and Fred were great hosts and they were often on hand for us should we need anything. Nothing was too much trouble and they could easily be found, even telling us when they were going off-site and another time when they were checking on a ewe in the furthest field. The Games Barn is very well equipped and very comfortable. There is a rather unkind feedback post on here that I have to say, I totally disagree with. The bed linen was crisp and clean, the beds comfortable, the wetrooms were clean (no smell whatsoever) and overall it was very comfortable. Very easy to live in. Home is home and over the years you build up all of what are deemed as your necessities. We found the Games Barn to have all that was needed for our time there, we didn't 'miss' anything. Our expectations were all met perfectly. I have stayed in a number of self catering apartments and this one was by far the best. All places I have stayed in have an arrival and departure time, to expect to deviate from this is unacceptable - a hotel would charge if you didn't vacate by their required time! The property is situated in stunning grounds and is extremely peaceful. We took many photos but when we look at them it just doesn't do it justice. I absolutely loved every minute as did my mum and sister. We didn't want to leave. My recommendation would be to stop off somewhere en-route to the farm to buy food for an evening meal as personally, we were a bit daunted at having to find our way by car in the dark (no street lights) to the nearby village on the first night (it's not walkable in the dark). But this is a city person's opinion and one who has no sense of direction :-) I will definitely be returning again, as will my Mum and sister. It feels like we found a secret paradise and we are very grateful to Madeleine and Fred for allowing us to share their farm and grounds with them. Overall a truely fantastic weekend away with very lovely hosts. Thank-you both.
Response: Thank you so much for this lovely review. We are delighted that your stay was so special as we strive to achieve that for all our guests. We greatly enjoyed your company and are very pleased that our farm, as well as the Barn, was such a success for you. We look forward to welcoming you back next year sometime.

“perfect location”
We visited the Games barn as a family of 8 made up of 3 generations. Fred & Madeleine were most welcoming and always on hand when you needed them. We didn't use the place as a base to travel around visiting local attractions as we went there for relaxation and tranquillity which we found plenty of. The younger members of the family had a field day with the animals and plenty of board games which kept them busy. The barn itself was very spacious and with 2 bath/shower rooms made it ideal for a family of 8. We did our own cooking every day and found the kitchen well equipped. We all had a great time and would definately return in the near future . Thank you Fred & Madeleine for having made our stay a pleasant one
Response: Thanks for this lovely feedback. We are very pleased that all three generations of your family enjoyed their stay and we would love to see you all here again.
“Great location, clean and roomy accommodation with very welcoming hosts”
My husband and I recently enjoyed a wonderful weekend at The Games Barn with our two children (3 and 4 years), my parents, brother & his wife. Our booking was only made a few weeks before but everything was quickly confirmed and detailed instructions on getting to the property sent in good time.
The property itself had plenty of room for the eight of us and was very well stocked even down to games for the children. The children loved seeing all the animals, and feeding the sheep was definitely a highlight. Madeleine and Fred the owners were extremely welcoming and did their utmost to make sure everything was right during our stay.
We hope to return in the future and will be recommending the property to our friends!
Response: Thanks for this lovely review - we are very pleased that the Barn provided your extended family with the flexibilty to have such a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.

“Relaxed family holiday”
I was looking for a cottage where my older teenage children [17. 19 & 22] could have their own bedrooms and it wouldn't take 3 hours to get everyone showered and out in the morning. The Games Barn was good value for a 4 bed, 2 shower room venue. We took 3 cars so that everyone could go off and do their own thing rather than be dragged around with dad all week and parking was no problem on the farm.
Their was a very friendly welcoming on arrival. The farm produced preserves and eggs in the fridge and rolls were appreciated. The accomodation was very well furnished and very spacious. Their were indoor boards games and outdoor play equipment for the kids to use, as well as barbeque equipment if we wanted to use it.
Although the kitchen was very well equipped we tended to eat out or get take aways most evenings. There are 3 very nice pubs in the nearby village of Mayfield. The Middle House has a nice beer garden but the food is quite pricey. It has a large menu and is supposed to be a bit up market; however, i thought it rather over priced and all the veg was under cooked [I like crisp veg not hard and chewy. The Rosie and Crown was much more relaxed. The menu was less varied but good food and fairly priced. There were a wide range of takeaways a couple of miles drive in Heathfield, plus good shops, cash points, petrol, etc.
Weather wasn't great so we didn't bother with Brighton or other beach resorts and we found plenty to do that didn't bankrupt me too much. Even my eldest rather enjoyed the Lama Park - though he enjoyed the cider tasting at the orchard around the corner even more! I was expecting the Science Park and observatory to be a quick visit and a poor relation to the science Museum in London but we spent the entire afternoon; really fascinating.
All-in-all a really good relaxing week. The owners were very friendly and on hand all week if needed, but we never felt that they were hovering around us. I'd happily recommend the Games Barn as good value and Sussex generally as a place to visit.
Response: Thanks for this excellent review. It is great to know that the Barn works for teenagers as well as young children and we hope to see you all again soon.

“Fantastic, comfortable accomodation. Ideal location to explore Sussex”
The barn was more than adequate to accomodate our family of 5 adults and 3 children (aged 1, 3 and 8). I would point out though that if you have a toddler there is not a great deal of room to put a travel cot in either of the double bedrooms. However a tight squeeze and slight rearrangement of the furniture in one of them for a week didn't ruin our holiday at all. The barn was extremely comfortable and well stocked. The welcome gifts in the fridge on arrival were very much appreciated, thank you. The kids thoroughly enjoyed collecting the eggs and we were all disappointed to miss the birth of the piglets which were overdue by the time we left. Fred and Madeleine were excellant hosts and we would love to return some time in the future. It is such a lovely central location to explore the Sussex countryside from. Our particular favourite was Battle but we also enjoyed days in Hastings, Bodien Castle, Bluebell Railway and Drusillas Park.
Response: Thanks for this lovely review. We recognise that the double bedrooms are a squeeze with a cot and we try to make this clear to families when they book with us; we will ensure this is stated clearly on the booking form in future. We would be delighted to see you here again sometime and are glad the cramped bedroom did not spoil your enjoyment.
