A lovely little traditional Oast House on owners' 17th century working farm. There are 60 acres of rolling farmland to explore, situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. This unique self-catering property has been sympathetically refurbished to a high standard to ensure a comfortable stay.

The property is situated on a secluded and very quiet country lane and has a private driveway. The enclosed private garden is safe for children. When exploring the farm, care should be taken near ponds, wells, the bordering stream and of course the animals! You will have the use of your own private garden with BBQ facilities. Due to the fact that this is a working farm with livestock, regrettably we cannot allow dogs.

The Oast has recently been rennovated throughout to a high standard, including new fixtures and fittings and quality soft furnishings. The ground floor is tiled throughout and comprises of an entrance lobby for outdoor clothing storage, a spacious, beamed sitting room with TV and DVD facilities. There is a seperate kitchen/dining room (seating 6) and ample kitchen equipment for six people (high chair provided too). There is a family-sized ground floor bathroom with built-in shower, bath, basin and loo. Another separate WC with loo and basin is on the first floor.The roundel, which was originally used for drying hops now forms part of a very large double bedroom and the living room below. The main bedroom offers extensive views across the Sussex hills and a cot is available. The second bedroom is very comfortable for a single adult and the John Lewis "guest bed" converts into two full-size singles which would suit two children (or adults with a bit of a squash!). There is also a sofa bed downstairs if needed.

Surrounding The Oast is a secure private garden, safe for children to play in, with furniture for outside dining. There are also a further 60 acres of rolling Sussex farmland to explore. A BBQ is provided too.

Rental includes electric central heating, electricity and use of all household equipment and standard cleaning after departure. Returnable deposit is required to cover any additional breakages/cleaning.This is a non-smoking property.

The East Sussex region

There is so much to do in the area, it is impossible to list everything but places of interest are Bateman's Country House, Hastings Abbey and Battlefield, Bodiam Castle, Chartwell, Glyndebourne Opera House, Hever Castle, Drusillas Zoo Park..

The Farm is located on the High Weald and so the South Downs are easily accessible for those wishing to enjoy outdoor pursuits. Bewl Water is also not far. There are also many local footpaths and walks to enjoy as well as local places to ride horses, fish or play golf.

Mayfield

The historic village of Mayfield was at its height during the boom in the Wealden iron industry, and many of the fine houses date from that time. Both village and church are said to have been founded by the Archbishop of Canterbury, St Dunstan, in 960 CE, and there are legends surrounding his connection with the village. There is an array of shops on Mayfield High Street, as well as three pubs: the Middle House (in the High Street), the Carpenters' Arms and the Rose and Crown (both in Fletching Street). The renowned Mayfield Festival of Music and the Arts is a biennial event that takes place in May and attracts world class performers.

Royal Tunbridge Wells, Eastbourne and Brighton are all within easy reach.

"Perfect country holiday!"

We could not be more pleased with our time at The Oast Cottage. Our hosts were superbly welcoming and we were especially delighted to be provided with basics like milk, bread, butter, coffee and tea to begin our stay. The cottage is on a beautiful farm which we were free to walk around. There were also walking trails nearby and plenty of villages in the area to explore. The landscape of East Sussex is breathtaking and it's an easy drive to the south coast downs. The cottage is very comfortable with a fully equipped kitchen and a lovely contemporary bathroom. It made for a very restful country holiday and we look forward to visiting again.

"Very nice and comfortable cottage"

This is a very nice and comfortable cottage in a beautiful tranquil surroundings. We were greeted by our hostess with a delicious freshly baked bread, eggs etc. Very recommendable!
