The West Country region
The West Country Region
Devon is one of England's largest counties and has a beautiful mix of moorlands, wooded valleys, sweeping beaches and hidden coves. It is renowed for its abundant wildlife with 210 sites of scientific interest and two national parks to explore. There are many unspoilt picturesque villages with thatched roof cottages and cobbled streets as well as grander stately homes and castles.
Lynton and its twin village of Lynmouth lie on the North coast of Devon surrounded by the spectacular natural beauty of Exmoor National Park. The villages were known in Victorian times as Little Switzerland, surrounded as they are by wooded valleys and dramactic scenery. The Valley Of The Rocks with breathtaking views of the rugged Exmoor coastline and home of the wild but docile goats is within walking distance of the apartment.Lynton has a good variety of interesting shops to browse and many pubs, restaurants and tearooms to tempt you in for a bite to eat. The famous cliff railway ,which was officially opened in 1890, is a short stroll from the apartment and from here you can descend appox.500 feet to Lynmouth whilst enjoying undoubtedly one of the most spectacular rides of its kind with fantastic views over Lynmouth Bay towards the South Wales Coast. Lynmouth is a picturesque viilage and harbour with walks along the East Lyn river to Watersmeet and beyond.
Exmoor National Park is a Dark Sky Reserve so it is also an Astronomers delight.
