"Just what we wanted"
This was a very last minute booking. We were looking for time to relax, a chance to see some places that I visited many times as a child, for my wife to see part of the country she had not seen and to bring our dog. The communication was excellent. The location was ideal for what we wanted, very rural yet within easy access (you need a vehicle) of all the places we wanted to visit. The property is ideal for two people and dog(s) and whist it was great at this time of the year it looks like it would be really cosy in the winter. There is a substantial amount of acreage with woodland - great for a walk with the dog. Also the 1066 hiking trail runs close by the cottage. There is also a tennis court that is in very good condition - if you can find the time to use it. Paul and Julia are very friendly and helpful. They have an allotment on the property and grow all sorts of vegetables and fruits and we're happy for us to help ourselves. They also have two dogs and our dog had a great time with theirs. All in all we were very happy with all aspects of our stay and would thoroughly recommend this place to stay (with or without a dog).

"5 Star Peace and Tranquility"
We have just returned from another very enjoyable and restful holiday at the Byre . You can be assured of a very warm welcome from the hosts Julia and Paul . They have a fantastic knowledge of the area and know all the best places to visit , the best walks ( not forgetting a walk in their private woods ) and the best places for a meal . We were recommended by Julia to visit Bluebells Café and Tearoom in Battle , the scones and cakes were to die for. They were that good we went back for seconds ( on another day ) . Julia also recommended The New Inns at Westfield where we had a very enjoyable evening meal . The Byre is a beautiful cottage located in a peaceful and tranquil area of outstanding beauty on the borders of East Sussex and Kent . The location is excellent for exploring all the wonderful gardens and places of interest in East Sussex and Kent . We have now visited The Byre 9 times and all visits have been excellent and have just booked again for 2 weeks in 2016. We would highly recommend The Byre to all our family and friends. Thank you Julia, Paul, Ghilly and Wellie for another wonderful holiday .
We look forward to your 10th visit in 2016 and we are sure there will be even more good pubs and cafes to try!We like the "job" of sampling them all!! Julia & Paul

"Another Perfect Week Away in East Sussex"
Our 8th visit to 'the Byre' ALL have been excellent and we particularly enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the well appointed property. It is very peaceful there and Paul and Julia are 'on hand' if needed and are always good company. Their two dogs, Ghilly and Welly are a delight and always come for a daily visit- they are very friendly. The woods are a joy to walk in (no badgers or owls this year) and places like Rye, Hastings and Battle are very close and easily visited. The village of Westfield has a super restaurant- 'the Wild Mushroom',a yummy butchers and deli -'Archers' and a newly refurbished pub ' the New Inn' with good food
We are delighted that you have already booked for 2016 and have extended your stay for 2 weeks, so you can enjoy all the local attractions and great places to eat! It is such a pleasure to welcome guests back each year. Hope you enjoy the rest of your Birthday celebrations! Until next year... With best wishes Julia Paul Ghilly & Wellie

This is the second time we have stayed here , and once again we had a great time . Julia and Paul provided us with milk, bread, free range eggs, tea, and coffee (I am sorry if I have missed anything out).t The facilities in the cottage are second to none , and the situation down a quiet lane and a path leading to the cottage is the perfect prescription for a relaxing , sleep late stay. The local pubs provide fantastic eating opportunities not to be missed.
It was lovely to welcome you both again. We are pleased you enjoyed the food at the Red Lion and New Inn-we are lucky to have so many good pubs close by. We look forward to seeing you next year. Julia & Paul

"Lovely cottage, good base to see the area."
Very clean and comfortable with everything we needed for our stay. Julia and Paul were helpful with advice on what to see etc without being obtrusive. Lots of information including booklets and maps provided. Quiet location within easy reach of all amenities. Our dogs loved it too particularly the walk in the woods. Highly recommend this cottage.
So pleased you enjoyed your stay and you certainly managed to include lots of walks and outings to wear out the dogs! Do hope to welcome you again in the future. Julia Paul Ghilly and Wellie

"Another superb stay at The Byre"
This was our 8th stay at the Byre and we were as usual given a very warm welcome from Paul, Julia and of cause Ghilly. The Byre now has a fabulous addition of a Garden room which is a fantastic place to sit and relax surrounded by the beautiful countryside. The weather was fantastic and we visited Bexhill, Eastbourne, Battle,Dover and many other places. A week at the Byre is not enough to visit all the places you wish to see in this wonderful area. We definitely will be back next year for 2 weeks. Thank you Paul and Julia for your hospitality and for all the lovely produce from your garden. We would recommend the Byre and it's lovely hosts to all our friends and family for a relaxing and peaceful stay in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
So pleased that you will be staying for two weeks next year and that the dates are in our diary! Such a pleasure to welcome you back each year-just wish the years did not fly by so quickly..is that a sign of age!!! Good that the later journey home worked well, especially at the Dartford tunnel. We await news of your granddaughter! Julia,Paul & Ghilly

"Perfect place foe a peaceful break."
The accommodation is situated in an ideal location if you wanted to stay in a quiet area. It is ideal base to explore both Sussex and Kent and further a field if you so require. The owners (Paul & Julie) and their dog are the perfect host, they are there if you need them, otherwise you are left alone to enjoy your break.
Thanks for your review. Very pleased you enjoyed the peace and tranquility.Hope to welcome you back in the future. Julia Paul & ghilly

"The Usual Wonderful Trip to 'the Byre'"
This was the 9th time we have stayed with Paul and Julia Masters at 'the Byre'. As usual we had a wonderful time. We love the cottage as it has everything we need and this time we had the benefit of the newly added Garden Room which we enjoyed using particularly as it got dark in the evening and we could relax with the surroundings. Paul and Julia are perfect hosts always ready for a chat (but they are sensitive to their guests need for privacy) and a mine of information about restaurants, pubs and sights to visit. The bed is extremely comfortable (can be made up as a King size or two singles) and we are always offered the choice of duvets or sheets and blankets (we hate duvets!). Having the use of a washing machine is great and the cooker, hob, microwave and fridge/freezer are all easy to use and very efficient. We love walking in the private woods but this time we saw neither owls or badgers. Lots of places of interest are close by. We look forward to our next visit and hopefully this will be for two weeks next time
Such a pleasure to welcome you both and you always leave the cottage immaculate-so a big thank you! Pleased you were able to enjoy the garden room! We do hope it will be 2 weeks next year..a week goes way too quickly! Julia Paul and ghilly
