Description

Penkiln cottage is set on Kirkland Farm and is a family run by Mark & Diane. The Cottage is part of a traditional steading which has been sympathetically converted to accommodate up to six people and is nestled within the farm yard. Named after the burn which runs by the cottage. We are on the edge of the world famous Galloway dark skies park and offer a homely relaxed stay with plenty to see and do.

With a fully fitted modern kitchen, a spacious 26ft long lounge,with a sofa bed if needed, and two comfortable bedrooms along with a modern shower room.You will find everything you need in our cottage to make your stay a cosy home away from home. Switch off, relax and listen to the birds and the soothing sound of the Penklin burn!

The Cottage also boasts it's own private secure garden with patio and grassed areas.

There is an abundance of wildlife on the farm and in the bordering Cumloden estate and ancient oak woodland. Close by is the Wood of Cree RSPB reserve,otter pool and world famous Galloway dark skies park. For those seeking sporting activities we have private fishing on the farm, golf course and swimming pool within Newton Stewart, and the world class seven stanes mountain bike trails only two miles down the road.

There are countless things to do so whatever your plans, you are guaranteed a warm welcome to our family farm.

“Peaceful retreat”

We have just spent the most relaxing peaceful few days in Penkiln Cottage. Our host Mark was friendly and very informative. Although we didn't meet Diane we can vouch that her homemade jam was excellent and the milk shortbread etc was much appreciated. The cottage was spacious very comfortable and immaculately kept with some very tasteful touches. Newton Stewart is a lovely market town with many good eateries. There are many places of interest in the area and a great variety of activities for young and not so young.

Lovely warm and cosy cottage with everything we needed. So much to do around the area, Cree Wood Nature Reserve is well worth a visit and is on the doorstep to the cottage, also loads of lovely walks through the local forests and river with plenty of wildlife to keep everyone happy. We also opted for beaches as we travelled as a family of 6 and a dog. Galloway House beach is awesome, beach was so clean and shallow clear water. Loads of rock pools to keep the boys happy. Would definitely return in the future.

Had a fabulous holiday at Penklin cottage . The cottage was equipped with everything you could think of and just perfect for a relaxing break away. Had a beautiful secluded garden which my dog and two kids had hours of fun in. I only wish I had booked the cottage for longer and can't wait to return.

On arrival my wife and I received a friendly welcome by Mark. He showed us around the cottage and gave us good advice on walks in the immediate area. The cottage is nice with everything you could need, the garden is enclosed and good for dogs or children. There are good beaches at Mossyard and Luce Bay within 20 minutes or so drive. The surrounding area is stunning. Easy access to coastal towns and Galloway Forest Park. The town is a short and enjoyable walk away. There's something for everyone. We could have spent much longer there and definitely want to go back. Highly recommended.

You want for nothing while you staying there, as it has every home comfort you could think of. “Great base for visiting Dumfries and Galloway”

Myself, my wife, 2 year old son and dog spent a great weekend at this cottage, situated on a farm on the edge of Newton Stewart. The accommodation was spacious and had everything we needed. The kitchen had everything required (and more), there was a big garden for my son and dog to runabout, massive comfortable living room with TV, DVD player and hifi, and we arrived to a basket of free range eggs, home made jam and shortbread. All for a great price of around £50 a night, and that includes gas central heating and electricity. You are made very welcome, and my son loved wandering around the farm to say hello to the pig, chickens, cat and sheep. There's also a book of handy tips and plenty of leaflets to give ideas of what to do in the local area. I would have no hesitation in booking this cottage the next time we visit Dumfries and Galloway.

Arrived and everything was ready and waiting, even a welcome basket of fresh eggs from the farm, biscuits and a pint of milk. (A lovely gesture) Very comfy cottage and well equipped Lovely area for walking and a good base at the cottage. There's also a fishing lake just across the field which we could use at a small fee. Had a lovely time and will be returning next year.

My partner and I were travelling around South Scotland for a week and stayed at Penkiln cottage for two nights at the weekend. The cottage was lovely and really great value for money. It was really kind of the owners to welcome us with fresh eggs and shortbread biscuits and we enjoyed every minute of relaxing in the cottage after our days out walking. Would definitely recommend to friends and family

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

If Mark (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
