Description from owner

Description

Linlithgow Cottage is the perfect base for a Scottish holiday. Just 15 minutes from Edinburgh Airport, 2kms from the M9, and with Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, Perth and St Andrews all within an hour's drive. Opened in 2006 and furnished and equipped to a very high standard, the cottage has earned a 4 star rating from the Tourist Board. The cottage is deceptively extremely spacious. It has sleeping accommodation for up to five (an additional bed can be put into the twin room if requested at no additional charge), plus an infant in a cot.

The cottage is just 2kms from the centre of the Royal Burgh of Linlithgow, birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots and a town at the heart of hundreds of years of Scotland's history. Just 15 minutes away by train is Edinburgh, Scotland's Capital, with a host of tourism attractions from castles to ghost walks to the Royal Yacht Brittania! It's also home to some of the best restaurants and theatres in Scotland.

Location description from owner

The Scotland region

This area of Scotland is the perfect base for a touring holiday with almost every area of the country within reach. Whatever your interests, be it sport and recreation, history, lochs and mountains or just relaxing, central Scotland offers the visitor a year-round experience. The Edinburgh area has been at the heart of Scotland's history for a thousand years, and more contemporary attractions like St Andrew's, the home of golf, and Roslin Chapel, made famous by the Da Vinci Code, are within easy reach. The scenic grandeur of the Scottish Highlands is equally easily available, and Loch Ness, and a chance to spot the monster, makes a great day out.

Linlithgow

The area around Linlithgow has lots to offer visitors. Absolutely unmissable is the Falkirk Wheel, a marvellous piece of engineering opened in 2000 to reconnect Edinburgh and Glasgow by canal, which offers you the opportunity to experience a rotating boat lift! The historic Hopetoun house, Blackness castle and House of the Binns are all in the local area whilst just a few miles away, Cairnpapple is one of the oldest historic sites in the UK with artefacts some 5000 years old. For those into more contemporary entertainment the annual Edinburgh International Festival is one of the world's biggest and best, running throughout August and including the famous Military Tattoo. Linlithgow itself is the birthplace of two iconic figures - Mary, Queen of Scots and Scotty of Star Trek fame! The cottages are just a few minutes walk from the west lothian golf course and why not bring your bikes to explore the area with it's quiet country roads, perfect for a biking holiday!

“new owner has added more comfort”

Reviewed 28 Nov 2016

We have stayed at Linlithgow cottages often. I was born locally and have family in Linlithgow The cottages have always been a high standard. but the new owner has .added a lot of nice new touches. new seating outside the front door undercover, re furbished the bathrooms. new carpets. (love the Tartan), changes to some of the dark furniture to lighten the lounge. The extra changes have been appreciated Looking forward to my next stay very much.

Thank you Mrs Jaynes for your positive review! Your feedback is important to us and we are happy to hear that you like our changes. We look forward to welcoming you both back to the cottages in the near future. Kind regards, Francesco

“Cottage # 3”

Reviewed 27 Sep 2016

Spent two weeks in cottage 3. Other than small shower and uncomfortable bed it was well equipped. Home baking provided on arrival was a nice touch.

Good evening Carol, We are glad to hear you arrived home safely and that you enjoyed your stay with us! Thank you for feedback, we were unaware that the bed was uncomfortable and we are now putting in measures to change this. We hope you choose to come and stay with us again, should you wish to return to Linlithgow.... Kind regards, Francesco Albano

“Beautiful Little Cottage”

Reviewed 28 Jan 2014

What a lovely welcoming cottage, nice, warm and airy (bathroom a little chilly but not a problem) it really is like a home from home. It is close to things but a car really is recommended and if you use your satnav it's going to take you the scenic route so be prepared for narrow roads. The free wifi was an absolute bonus and I was able to continue working even in the evenings which when my clients are all round the world with different time zones was perfect. I would definitely stay there again if I can get booked in. Be great to see it in the warm weather and not the howling gales and storms which is what it was like in January. PS, added bonus is home baked fruit pie which went down a treat after an 8 hour drive.

“Ideal Central Scotland holiday base”

Have stayed here twice now and will be returning definitely... encouraged by returning loyalty discount...never had this offered before in self catering property. Well laid and extremely well equipped cottage with excellent access. Williamson is a very good landlord and most accommodating and friendly. Linlithgow is a lovely historic town with good shops cafes & restaurants plus The Palace,

“Best value for money in the UK”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2012

We thoroughly enjoyed our time. The cottage is well equiped and everything worked perfectly. It is close to the city, but rural and a good place to use as a base or just to relax in a nice rural environment.

“Lovely vacation to a beautiful country”

Reviewed 2 Jul 2012

My husband and I traveled with our student daughter and her boyfriend to Scotland for a short vacation in June 2012. We opted for Linlithgow as our base point on our daily visits to beautiful castles, museums and other interesting sites in Scotland. We have enjoyed very much staying at Linlithgow Cottages and felt there as in our own vacation house. It is very wisely furnished, the kitchen is very well equipped, the backyard is well looked-after and I believe that Bob, the rabbit we shared the backyard with, agrees with us... For those who want some peace and quiet after a long day, or just relax and watch the rain (unfortunately it did rain!), this is a perfect location. Besides it is close to Edinburgh, Sterling Castle, Melrose, Rosslin, not to mention the impressive Linlithgow Palace and St.Micheal's Church. We even reached Eilean Donan Castle and Isle of Skye in one day - which we don't recommend to others because we just got the speeding invoice from Hertz :( But the splendid journey and the scenery beat the fine received. All in all it was a very good location and we strongly recommend it to those who look for comfort in a quiet location. Oh, and compliments to our landlord, David, who very kindly advised us on all our questions and did his best to put in place the internet connection - thank you David for making our stay very pleasant. We hope, with God's help, to come back sometime.

“Destination with excellent quality”

Reviewed 20 Aug 2011

Very clean and comfortable destination Warm welcome with fresh home-made cake Ideal destination to make tours in the surrounding area (Edinburgh, St. Andrews, Falkwirk) Especially recommended is the Military Tattoo in Edinburgh Linlithgow is a nice town too

“An ideal place for exploring Scotland”

Reviewed 8 Aug 2011

The check-in is made very easy. I phoned Mr. Williamson 10 miles before arriving at Linlithgow and so we found our keys (and a tasty cake) inside. A few hours later Mr. Williamson visited us to check everything was ok. The cottage itself was very clean and spacious for four persons. The location is very good, too. For example, you can see the castle of Linlithgow from the terrace in front of the house. Moreover you can visit very beautiful places from Linlithgow, e.g. the Hopetoun House or Edinburgh (transfer to the capital by train is recommended). We also visited Loch Ness and the famous Eilean Donan Castle from here. To sum it all up, the trip to Scotland was one of our best holidays. I say thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Williamson.

“Great place and location”

Reviewed 20 Jul 2011

Great place in great location. Ideal location for many attractions both in city and country. Spacious accommodation for a family. Safe interesting outdoor area for children. Only improvement that could be made were the pillows.
