Location description from owner

The England region

The Peak District is famous for its walking and stunning scenery as well as the Spa Town of Buxton and the market town of Bakewell. It is also home to some of the worlds best rock climbing and some pretty amazing biking be it on or off road! With countless local food producers and some amazing restaurants you certainly wont be going hungry! Just to the south is the relatively unknown Staffordshire Moorlands and the wooded hills around Alton, well worth an explore.

Ford

Ford is a peaceful hamlet off the beaten track set on the banks of the river Hants. The cottage is about half a mile out of the village along a dead end road, it is secluded by trees from the main house and so if you are looking for seclusion, this is the place. It is a few miles to the nearest pub in Onecote (only walkable in very dry weather) and about three miles to the nearest shop. With some lovely walking from the front door you won't need to go far, Dovedale and the spectacular Roaches are just a few mins away by car. A good choice of pubs and restaurants are all close by. There is a lovely farm shop/cafe a 2 mile walk, up hill out of Ford and the new Peak Wildlife Zoo Park is also 2 miles away.

“a real gem of a holiday cottage...kids didn't want to come home!”

Reviewed 8 May 2012

We booked to stay at Ford Wetley cottage last minute....we figured camping over the cold bank holiday would not be fun. Well, how lucky were we to stumble upon this gem of a holiday cottage! The cottage itself is warm and cosy and pretty much has everything you need. The owners have been very thoughtful and have made this a very easy / comfortable home from home. However, what sets this cottage apart is it's truly idyllic location. It is peaceful, yet not so off the beaten track that you can't get to a pub / shop within a reasonable drive time. The gardens are just wonderful, and the kids could have stayed playing there all day with no need for any excursion out. There are streams, little waterfalls, shetland ponies, tyre swings, places to picnic and endless opportunities to play the best games of hide and seek. When you are tempted to leave, there is plenty to do. We went scrambling on the Roaches, explored Dovedale and ventured to some of the cycle tracks. Overall a very successful long weekend. I will be booking again....my kids are demanding it!

So glad you enjoyed yourselves and look forward to meeting you next time.

“a beautiful and tranquil retreat”

Reviewed 5 Jun 2011

As a party of 2 children, parents and grandparents the cottage offered a perfect layout to accommodate us all. The fact that all bedrooms had en-suite made life so much easier and the downstairs bedroom was ideal for my father-in-law who has difficulty with stairs. It was like a home from home with everything thought of and easy to find. Louise and Adrian were extremely friendly and so helpful. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Although we only saw Murphy for a couple of days (as he went away for a little holiday) I would like to say that my 9 yr old son, who couldn't be more frightened of dogs, was won over by his friendliness. All in all we had a wonderful holiday, really back to nature and peaceful.
