The Lancashire region
Excellent walking on the West Pennine Moors is available straight from the door. If it's shopping you're after, try the Trafford Centre, in Manchester, or Liverpool City Centre. For wildlife experiences, there is Martin Mere, and the beach at Formby - home to a colony of red squirrels. History abounds at Clitheroe Castle, Skipton Castle and Whalley Abbey. Sporting activities nearby include horse-riding, skiing at Ski Rossendale or the Chill Factor; there are also numerous golf courses nearby, including Darwen, Pleasington and Whalley.
Down an un-made lane, the cottage is quiet and undisturbed - ideal for a quiet get-away.

"Beautiful house - great for a family"
We stayed for a couple of nights at Midsummer Barn. It is a beautiful cottage and great for our little ones - cots were provided for both, as well as highchairs and stair gates - it is really well kitted out. Yvonne, the owner, was really helpful whenever I emailed and the cottage was lovely clean and tidy when we arrived. We would definitely stay again - the only thing that let us down was the weather, so we need to plan that better next time we visit!
So pleased you had a good time. Having travelled with small children, we know how much stuff they need, so we try to provide as much as possible. I'm sorry about the weather you had - unfortunately, that's the one thing I can't control!
