The Scotland region

There are so many things to do and see in Edinburgh: the castle, major galleries, the Scott Monument, The Royal yacht Brittania, The Royal Mile, Edinburgh dungeon, Arthur's Seat, The Zoo, not to mention award winning restaurants and bars. Every August millions flock to the city for the The Edinburgh International and Fringe Festival where there are an array of artists, comedians and theatrical performances to choose from everyday. In June The Royal Highland Show (a fantastic four day agricultural event) is held on the outskirts of the city and is a short 15 minute drive from the cottage. The East neuk of Fife with its many galleries, beautiful coves and beaches can be reached within an hour. For golf enthusiasts there are many local courses. St Andrews and Gleneagles are also easily accessible. The Falkirk Wheel is a must see. You can take a boat trip, visit the cafe and childrens playpark.Goose Cottage allows you to have both a tranquil holiday in the countryside and easy access to explore Scotland's major cities.

Bathgate

The West Lothian region has numerous places of interest to visit, all within easy reach from Goose Cottage so you are sure to find something for everyone to enjoy. There are many areas of historical significance such as Cairnpapple, a prehistoric burial ground, and Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots which has a magnificent lochside location. Hopetoun House also deserves a mention as Scotland's finest stately home set in 150 acres of parkland. The local Country Parks offer great walks in lovely scenery. One of the best is Beecraigs which has a deer park, fishing loch, play park with separate toddler friendly area and extensive woodland. The Almond Valley Heritage Centre is a fantastic day out for the family with a farm, several outdoor and indoor play-areas, train and museum all in one location. For a spot of retail therapy Livingston has a great designer outlet centre called MacArthur Glen. With so many attractions and activities on offer, we hope this is a destination you'll want to return to again and again.

“Stop searching and choose this one....especially if you are a family travelling to Scotland”

Reviewed 2 Aug 2013

The Goose Cottage is a wonderful accommodation in a perfect location. The set-up is simple but very, very comfortable...not an easy feat when you are travelling as a family of four including two tall teenagers that seem to spread out and take over whatever space we seem to visit. :-) The kitchen was well equipped and the the welcome basket was incredible. The cottage is set on a rural farm, and adjoins another building. The small front yard and back yard provide privacy and your own personal space, and looking out over the fields toward Edinburgh was terrific. The location can't be beat because its 20 minutes to Edinburgh (though we'd recommend the train from Uphall as it saves you trying to find parking near the castle when you get there), 35 minutes to Glasgow, within half an hour of Stirling Castle, the Falkirk Wheel, Loch Lomond, Tantallon Castle and a number of other key spots. Drive a little further and you can get to Perth and the hiking that is near there, and a longer drive can be made by heading north to Inverness, then down Loch Ness past Urquart Castle and back home via Glencoe (yes, its a full day but its worth it). All absolutely wonderful and the scenery is spectacular. Unfortunately, Lisa was away whilst we were there and so we did not have the opportunity to meet in person. We did chat over the phone, however, and found her to be friendly and very personable. We look forward to returning again in the future.

“A real home from home”

Reviewed 27 Oct 2012

We loved Goose Cottage. Lisa is an excellent host who lives next door and strikes a great balance of being there when you need help but leaving you to enjoy the cottage too. We had never stayed in such a well appointed holiday cottage which had everything we needed. After a long day sight seeing and visiting with our friends and family, it was a very welcome place. Though it is part of a farm development, it is only 5 minutes to a superstore and the closest train station which is about 20 mins to Edinburgh and 45 mins to Glasgow. We particularly enjoyed the woodburner. We would thoroughly recommend a stay here as a great base for sight seeing central Scotland.

Thank you for taking the time to write the review. I'm glad you enjoyed your holiday at the cottage, yes the woodburner is very popular ! We are fortunate that the surroundings are so peaceful at the steading. I hope that you will consider staying at Goose Cottage in the future.

“Great place, home from home”

Reviewed 2 Oct 2011

Excellent place to be, everything you need is provided for, perfectly located for trips, the cottage is very well equipped, was clean, the owners were very nice and prepared to give some extra service. It is really a "home from home" and I will certainly revisit the cottage.
