Lovely location, lovely owners and lovely cottage.
The cottage has everything you need and a beautiful little enclosed decking area with a table and chairs where I ate breakfast. I liked how Eco Friendly the cottage is as well.
Location is handy for Edinburgh, Glasgow, Falkirk, Stirling, Fife and all of the lothians really. I’m originally from West Lothian and was visiting for my sisters wedding, I’m so glad we stayed at Smarhus cottage and made a holiday of it.
We were even fortunate enough to see some baby deers playing outside the window. Andrew and Evelyn have a very friendly cat that greeted us at our car a few times too.
We got a slow puncture in our tyre just before the wedding and Andrew gave us a local garage number and loaned us a pump to keep the tyre pumped up. The owners are very lovely. They’re there if you need them but they’re not intrusive.
We are a family of 2 adults and 2 young children, one of us has a physical disability and we would definitely recommend Smarhus cottage to anyone considering booking. …
Pet friendly, people friendly, local to Edinburgh
The accommodation was very welcoming, as were our hosts.
Local enough to the city and surrounding areas, but remote enough to be quiet and enjoyable for those wishing for a peaceful break.
I would highly recommend this property. …
Beautifully located home in the country
We enjoyed a great stay in this lovely house, it was so peaceful and relaxing, very well equipped and beautifully furnished. It was great to meet Sharon and Colin, we had a lovely warm welcome from them. Westcraigs is perfectly positioned to visit so many places in the West Lothian area and offers a perfect retreat from this busy world …
Stop searching and choose this one....especially if you are a family travelling to Scotland
The Goose Cottage is a wonderful accommodation in a perfect location. The set-up is simple but very, very comfortable...not an easy feat when you are travelling as a family of four including two tall teenagers that seem to spread out and take over whatever space we seem to visit. :-) The kitchen was well equipped and the the welcome basket was incredible. The cottage is set on a rural farm, and adjoins another building. The small front yard and back yard provide privacy and your own personal space, and looking out over the fields toward Edinburgh was terrific. The location can't be beat because its 20 minutes to Edinburgh (though we'd recommend the train from Uphall as it saves you trying to find parking near the castle when you get there), 35 minutes to Glasgow, within half an hour of Stirling Castle, the Falkirk Wheel, Loch Lomond, Tantallon Castle and a number of other key spots. Drive a little further and you can get to Perth and the hiking that is near there, and a longer drive can be made by heading north to Inverness, then down Loch Ness past Urquart Castle and back home via Glencoe (yes, its a full day but its worth it). All absolutely wonderful and the scenery is spectacular. Unfortunately, Lisa was away whilst we were there and so we did not have the opportunity to meet in person. We did chat over the phone, however, and found her to be friendly and very personable. We look forward to returning again in the future. …
