An ideal base from which to explore the East Neuk of Fife's quaint fishing villages of Anstruther, Crail, Pittenweem, St Monans & Elie strung along the coast, or easy access to Edinburgh, Dundee or Perth and The Trossachs.
The East Neuk is reknowned as the most picturesque area on the east coast of Scotland, its beautiful shoreline dotted along its length with quaint little fishing villages clustered round their harbours.
As a base for an enjoyable family holiday, it can hardly be bettered. The main road bypasses most of the villages on the landward side, leaving them very peaceful and full of old world charm. There are quiet coves with lovely sandy beaches, ruined castles, lighthouses, boat trips, & cycling along the many signposted routes in the East Neuk, excellent eateries, and, (this being Fife), plenty of golf as well. The Fife Coastal path runs the length of the East Neuk and offers fairly easy and highly scenic walking, with the added bonus of a good bus service (No. 95) which will take you home again if you decide not to go both ways on foot.
The Lodge offers a warm, charming base close to the restaurants, pubs, shops and attractions of Anstruther. St Andrews and the other coastal villages are only a few minutes' drive, with Edinburgh just over an hour away by car. Ideal for couples seeking a romantic hideaway, outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers, or ,families looking for a rural retreat, or, golfers looking to mark their cards at any one of the many premier courses, including the famous Old Course at St Andrews.
Kilrenny Common, with children's' play area and woodland trail, are within a short walk of the cottage. The Lodge is secluded and quiet yet with amenities only a short walk/drive away, has an enclosed garden to the rear, safe for young children, and a pleasant place to relax after a hard day's fun..

“Relaxing break”

Reviewed 3 Aug 2016

Just back from a short break with family and our cocker spaniel, The Lodge was clean and comfortable, and everything we needed, (small complaint was the garden few holes in hedge so couldn't leave dog unattended, and would have been nice to have table and chaired as weather was nice for sitting out with lunch) nice walk in to anstruther and surrounding areas....Visited Scotland's Secret Bunker worth a visit... Would defo use lodge again if every up that way

“Fabulous!”

Reviewed 2 Aug 2016

My partner and I stayed in this property for one week in July 2016. Penny was very organized and friendly--she sent us detailed instructions about how to reach the cottage, and she prepared a wonderful welcome package. Penny was also extremely helpful during our stay with recommendations about places to visit in the area. The letting itself is very comfortable, with a nice kitchen and bathroom. The lounge/living room is not huge, but still perfect for a couple or couple with one or two small children. The location is great---the village of Kilrenny is very nice, and it is very easy to walk to Anstruther. There is also a bus stop nearby. We came by car, but it was nice to also be able to use other forms of transportation.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for a wonderful review. I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and that you finally managed to see some of the wildlife on the Isle of May. We would love to welcome you back to stay at The Lodge next time you visit. With Kindest Regards Penny

“HOME FROM HOME”

Reviewed 5 Aug 2013

We had a lovely , relaxing break in `The Lodge`, it was very peaceful and we really enjoyed the birdlife and wildlife in the garden. The wine in the fridge and the tea, coffee ,milk and biscuits were greatly appreciated after our long drive, and we had a really good sleep in the comfortable beds. The Cocoa Tree in Pittenweem is well worth a visit, fab hot chocolate .. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Crail which is beautiful and Tentsmuir Nature Reserve. I would recommend to take a picnic and enjoy the day. ( a picnic basket is available in the Lodge ) Falkland Castle is a lovely place to visit. Our only regret is that we didn`t stay longer as the Pittenweem art festival was about to begin. Killrenny is a lovely peaceful retreat just a few minutes from the beach with all the amenaties on the doorstep. Will be back.

“Comfy cottage with everything you need for a relaxing break in a beautiful and accessible part of Scotland”

Reviewed 26 Jul 2013

Stayed here for 4 nights for a new year's eve wedding in beautiful St Andrews. Very glad we did. Cottage has everything you'd need, beautifully clean and looks very recently refurbished with lovely touches. Quite wanted to steal the rug in the living room! Large co-op store 5 minutes up the road so ideal for self catering and plenty of places to eat in the little villages and towns along the coast. St Andrews is really close but by staying here we got a perfect night's sleep and much needed lie-in post NYE as it's very tranquil. Think we also saved a fortune compared to St A's and saw lots of deer, buzzards and stunning coastline on the drive which we'd have missed by staying in the city. Plenty to keep you occupied nearby, we went to Edinburgh for a day trip which was lovely and a very pretty national park I forget the name of. Intend to go back in the summer to enjoy the beautiful coast which was a bit bracing in Dec/Jan.
