Old Castle Inn
About the home
New on the market, Old Castle Inn is a large converted public house full of character and with unusual architectural features.
The beautiful village of Alton sits above the Churnet Valley adjacent to glorious Dimmingsdale on the edge of the Peak District. It is ideal for walkers and cyclists (a disused railway line passes through the village).
It is situated less than 5 minutes from Alton Towers resort - a bus is available from the bottom of the road.
The village has 5 pubs, most of which offer good food, and an excellent restaurant on the same street as the property.
Nearby are the historic towns of Ashbourne and Cheadle (with it's fine Pugin church). Leek , with William Morris trail, a little further away (30 mins) and the spa town of Buxton with Opera house and many cultural events 45 mins away.

Good service from the owner. Quick response to booking enquiry, timely receipt of house details and very helpful during our stay. We had a problem with the heating on arrival and the owner was quick to respond by text and phone which meant the problem was sorted within an hour. Property was well suited to a large party of 10 people. 5 decent sized bedrooms over 2 floors. Although none of the bedrooms had an en-suites, this was not a problem as there was a bathroom on each floor. House was well equipped and we liked the unusual character of the place. Location in the village of Alton was great. Good local pub across the road and Alton Towers is within walking distance (30 m inutes). Only draw back was that, even with the heating working, the house was a bit cold for our stay in April. |

Spatious accommodation at a very competitive price in a lovely village location. The owners were very helpful and friendly, as were the villagers. We were there during a cold spell in winter, and had to get additional firewood - this can be obtained either from the village store or post office. There is no off-street parking, but this was not really a problem for us. There are two decent-looking pubs very close to hand. We'd like to come back in the summer. |
