“A charming country retreat, in a unique, private and tranquil setting”
Rothley Lodge is a magnificent country period home set within 6 acres of parkland with mature woods, duck flight pond and lawned gardens with picturesque woodland paths leading down to the properties own river where quiet walks or fishing can be enjoyed.
On the edge of the Northumberland National Park, Rothley Lodge was built in Victorian times as the shooting lodge for Wallington Hall (National Trust - 4 miles away). Rothley Lodge has an abundance of character and charm, with very high standards including beautiful period furnishings to add to your country house holiday experience. Rothley Lodge offers spacious but homely and comfortable accommodation, ideal for a relaxing holiday, special celebration or family get-together with a truly unique, private and tranquil setting to enjoy the ultimate country living experience. Every season is a wonderful experience to cherish at Rothley Lodge, whilst sharing this peaceful haven with only the wildlife that frequently visit the grounds, roe deer, red squirrels, badgers and a fantastic selection of bird life for the budding bird watchers.
In Spring/Summer, you can picnic on the many lawn areas available or relax on the timber decking and enjoy alfresco dinning with the use of our gas fired BBQ whilst lounging in comfort on the garden lounge furniture or for those short autumn/winter days, get cosy by the roaring open log fire in the family living room. For the music lovers, enjoy a pleasant evening playing the properties Victorian Grand Piano, although a little out of tune, a little sing song for entertainment, will add to your memorable family gathering.
Enjoy a pleasant social evening with a glass of fine wine in the kitchen/dining area whilst preparing your evening meal on the four oven AGA range, followed by a rare dining experience in the formal dining room.
The property offers three individually decorated double rooms with king size beds, one of which has an en suite with travertine tiled shower room, basin and wc, all with glorious views over the properties parkland, gardens or the ravine leading down to the river. A beautiful cot is available in the en suite double room and a further temporary guest bed is available for one of the other double rooms if an extra guest is required. There are two further twin bedrooms, all very accessible for the family bathroom, tiled in travertine with period roll top bath, rain shower room, basin and wc.
Free of charge fly fishing for trout is available at Rothley Lodge in season. (two rods free with guests own tackle - additional rods on request at daily charge).
DIY livery for guest's horses on request also (details and fees to be arranged with owner).
Pets maybe allowed by prior arrangement with owner, however dogs must be kept under strict control or on lead, due to property bordering onto sheep country. Pets must also be kept under control whilst in the property and strictly must not be allowed on furniture or in the bedrooms. Owners must bring their own pet beds and must sleep in the rear utility room or the kitchen to protect the property furnishings. Guests with pets must also vacum before departure to remove excess dog hairs etc. We charge a supplement of £6 per night for pets, to cover the extra deep clean required for follow on guests.

The Northumberland region
Ideally situated to enjoy all that Northumberland has to offer while the nearby market towns of Morpeth and Rothbury (within 12 miles) and Ponteland (14 miles), have an excellent range of shops, supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, pubs and leisure centers etc. The nearest country location shop and pub serving food is within 4 miles of Rothley Lodge.
Visit the medieval market town of Alnwick (23 miles) with twisting cobbled streets and some of the country's top attractions, including Alnwick Castle, dubbed the Windsor of the North. Alnwick Castle was the location for Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. Home of the Percy family and Dukes of Northumberland since 1309, alongside is the Duchess of Northumberland's blooming marvelous creation, The Alnwick Garden, where you can dine among the treetops of The Alnwick Garden in the fairytale setting of one of the world's largest tree houses.
Enjoy the fantastic Northumberland countryside, the rugged but beautiful Northumberland coast with its many renowned beaches, Kielder Water and Forest for peaceful walks and cycle rides or if you're feeling energetic why not try walking a stretch of Hadrian's Wall, the world heritage site built as a defensive fortification in Roman Britain and visit Vindolanda visitor centre or one of the many other Roman Forts in the area.
The Scottish borders are also within 45 minutes drive from Rothley Lodge if you wish to extend your sight seeing into the beautiful low land border country.
The city of Newcastle and the nearby Gateshead Metro Center offer fantastic city center attractions, cinema and indoor shopping experiences for those not so good weather days.
