Everyone who came along found the cottage to have everything we needed and without that which we didn't. Was great to be without TV and internet. The rooms were clean and tidy and comfortable. And we loved the mini-bar/games room (invest in a better dart board), lounge and main room. The setting was just spectacular, the out-of-the-wayness perfect and the views breath-taking.
We would love to come back.

The setting is gorgeous of that there is no doubt. The house is miles from anything in its own little valley and peace and quiet is defiantly on the menu.We travelled with a large group 5 adults (including pensioners) One teenager , two under fives and two dogs so the whole of society was pretty well represented. The one thing we all noticed was that the whole house desperately needs a good clean. There was mould in every bathroom and bedroom and the kitchen was just plain dirty. The owners had left a list of what we were expected to do when leaving which included washing the windows! They say its their own house but I just cant see how people can live like that. There are apparently cleaners who go in but they may have died. There was poo on one of the quilts when the cover was removed for cleaning (when we were leaving so we must have slept with it like that) There was a dart board in the Brai room which looked like a javlin had been thrown at it so was unusable - kind of just as well as there were only three sets of broken and mismatched darts . There were two cracked windows with tape on them, big burns on the carpets and mould and dirt everywhere. The downstairs toilet and sink were blocked (though they had kindly left a plunger!) The games in the games room had bits missing , there was a computer desk which had clearly recently had a computer on it but alas not when we were there. The toilet carpet/mat upstairs was more hole than mat , EVERYONE showered in the en-suite as it was the one with the least mould on the walls. There were no batteries in the remotes , the shed had mostly broken toys (bikes with flat tyres, ONE lawn dart, a totally tangled kite and a bogey with a flat tyre!) There was NO tree swing and access to the field where a second one was to be located was blocked with massive boulders and half the collapsed roof of the outbuildings. I could not make up the flaws that we found. The cost was very high considering the condition of the facilities.
The one saving grace was there was (just) enough coal and logs for the four nights .
Its taken me a lot to write this down because Im not a complaining person but it was just such a let down. The setting is gorgeous and house is really nice if it had just had some money spent on it since it was done up originally. Even the dining room chairs had been repaired with huge wood screws placed at random points . The lounge chairs were so dirty we contemplated taking them off and washing them. NOT what you want to be doing when you are spending £500 for only a few nights.
Im sorry to have written this and although I have pictures of what we encountered I wont be putting them online unless someone asks me to. The place could be gorgeous AND worth the money but the state we found it in and the absolute gall of the owners to leave a list with full cleaning instructions prior to leaving was just not on. NOTHING on the list has been done for many a month!
We left on the Sunday night because no one wanted another night in it though we had already paid. I came home needing a wash and we have two five year old kids and cats and dogs so Im no clean freak . Our great friend payed for this break for all of us and I felt devastated for him.
We made the best of it and we did have a good time but only because of the setting .
What a SHAME .

By the way the directions are pretty bad and you have to go through four or five farm gates every trip . Be prepared.
