Heron's Nest log cabin, part of Willowbank Lodges, nestles in a small hamlet in the heart of the Pewsey Vale bordering the Kennet and Avon canal. The five luxury log cabins have been solidly built from Russian redwood and are situated in three and a half acres including a private lake and are surrounded by beautiful countryside and a wide variety of wildlife. Heron's Nest cabin directly overlooks the stream and facing due west, is the sunniest cabin on site so gets the sun in the early evening after everyone else has been cast into shade.
Bird lovers will enjoy watching the various families of waterfowl on the lake, including our indigenous pair of swans, herons and our kingfisher who flies up and down both the lake and the stream and can be seen sitting on the railings near the end cabin, Kingfisher, so named.
Ramblers and cyclists alike will enjoy the miles of walks straight from the cabin gates with panoramic views of the Pewsey Vale from Martinsell Hill and of course we are on the National 4 cycle trail. Our ancient Savernake Forest is only a 5 minute drive away and is quite stunningly beautiful whether you are walking, picnicking or cycling.
The cabins provide a superb holiday base from which to explore the ancient county of Wiltshire and are easily accessed from the M3 and M4. Furthermore, the airports of London Heathrow, Bristol, Southampton and Bournemouth are between one and one and a half hours drive away. The local village of Pewsey is less than two miles away and boasts a good supermarket, butcher, baker, petrol station, garage, Indian restaurant, cafes and pubs and it also has a railway station with a fast train service to London and the West Country.
No smoking is allowed in the cabins but can be enjoyed outside under the cover of the veranda.
Well behaved dogs welcome and verandas now have gates therefore secure for dogs and young children.

About this location
The Wiltshire region
We are very privileged to be living in an area steeped in tradition and history, with three World Heritage sites within an easy driving distance (Stonehenge, Avebury and Bath). We have many delightful towns and villages to explore, country houses, museums and gardens to visit and plenty of traditional pubs and excellent restaurants.
We have a quick rail link to London from Pewsey Station less than five minutes drive away and you could plan a day/evening out in London to enjoy the sites and take in a theatre. Oxford, Salisbury and Bath are also within a reasonable drive away and offer good shopping, restaurants, theatres and interesting places to visit.
Wiltshire has a variety of landscapes but we are very lucky to be living in this beautiful part of Wiltshire where we can enjoy the wide open spaces of the Marlborough Downs and the Pewsey Vale with its white horses or alternatively walk in the ancient Savernake Forest with all its dappled glades, meandering paths and beautiful old trees, some nearly 1000 years old.
Then the Kennet and Avon canal is a different landscape altogether and you can enjoy long walks from Willowbank Lodges, through little villages with their quaint pubs or hire a boat for the day and go further afield. There really is something for everyone to enjoy in this part of the world.
Pewsey is a charming little village which is less than two miles from Willowbank Lodges and, although small, boasts a surprising number of ameneties. We have an excellent supermarket open seven days a week, a butcher, baker (delicious old fashioned donuts and lardy bread!) petrol station, post office, bank, gift shops, florists, art gallery and visitor centre, internet cafe and various coffee shops and pubs.
In addition, we have an excellent award winning tennis club where Willowbank Lodges has membership for its guests and a leisure centre with a swimming pool, squash courts, etc.
Slightly further afield, Marlborough boasts a large variety of restaurants and pubs, boutiques, antique shops, two fine churches and has the widest high street in the country. Now it is probably more famous for its International Jazz Festival which takes place in July (13th-15th this year) – a glut of musicians and singers, new bands and old favourites from all over the world, really an experience not to miss. Another music festival taking place this year (April 14th) just north of Marlborough is OneFest with Damon Albarn giving us a preview of his Dr Dee.
Local artists open up their studios (Open Studios) to the public during four weekends in July so what with other local musical and artistic events, plenty for those who want to absorb a little local culture.
For those crop circle enthusiasts, we are right in the midst of crop circle country and usually there are quite a number of sometimes quite spectacular crop circles to be found on the Downs or in the Vale, within 10 minutes drive of Willowbank Lodges.

"Fantastic accomodation in the most beautiful and tranquil setting you could ask for"
If you are looking for a tranquil and peaceful location then this is the place for you. Set in a stunning part of the UK these lodges provide everything you could ask for.... and more. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable they are the ideal holiday accomodation, whilst still being great value for money. This is the ideal setting for those travelling with dogs as there is a fully enclosed balcony surrounding each lodge so they can be let easily but safe in the knowledge that they are secure. The cabins are set in a really peaceful location with a lovely lake surrounding them which is teaming with wildlife. The surrounding area provides hours of walking, with stunning views and great pubs on route for a drink and bite to eat. Cant wait to return- the best holiday cottage I have stayed in whilst holidaying in the UK!!

An amazing place to stay. We stayed in Heron Lodge which was so clean and well appointed. The grounds were immaculate and a pleasure to be around.
We were lucky to see the Signets and a couple of ducks with their baby; plus a Moorhen. The two parent swans were also a joy to watch how they protected their young.
Willowbank is definitely a return visit and not just a once off.
Thank you Nicky for your efforts in bringing such an oasis for all to enjoy. Your presence was there but not intrusive which is reassuring to a good holiday.
We are definitely coming back.

"Such a lovely, peaceful place"
My husband booked a surprise birthday stay in Heron's Nest and it was wonderful! A romantic, cosy cabin sited right next to a stream that leads to the lake.
Sited perfectly for trips to Devizes, Caen Locks and Avebury if you fancy a day out or plenty of walks along the canals and through the fields, we brought our dog along for the trip and he had a wonderful time and was shattered after walks along the canals each afternoon.
Nicky is just lovely and has decorated the cabins beautifully and we had everything we could need. And she had kindly posted back my left behind items before I even realised they were missing!
We will definitely be visiting Willowbank Lodges again, whether it be just the two of us or with friends in the larger cabins. It was such a lovely break!
Thank you Nicky!

"Fabulous weekend getaway"
Cabin was fully kitted out and furnished to a high standard. Location was great as felt like you were in the middle of nowhere however all the amenities you needed in a few minutes drive. Several pubs and nice places to eat out within a short drive. Loads of chances for walking, however the weather was slightly too cold when we went and canal was very muddy due to the sheer amount of rain. Beautiful countryside and very amenable host. Good value for money.

We stayed in Heron's Nest for three nights in March. The lodge is one of five in a quiet, secluded location but close to the amenities provided in nearby Pewsey. The lodge is tastefully decorated and was spotless. Everything you could wish for is provided and during the chilly weather was lovely and warm.
The lodge is well situated for visiting Stonehenge, Salisbury and Avebury. (We didn't visit as are familiar with this area.)
We enjoyed a couple of local walks without the need to move the car.
We wouldn't hesitate to return to Heron's nest. The only downside I can think of is that we didn't see a kingfisher!
