The West Country / Cornwall region

Surround yourself with blue seas, sandy beaches, friendly people, beautiful countryside, history and a thousand and one things to do. Visit West Cornwall, it has everything you'll need in a holiday.
For lovers of the great outdoors, this area is a paradise. Love beach life, then you're in the right place. West Cornwall has been blessed with both a North and South Coast, providing a wealth of different beaches, crystal clear blue waters, golden sands and vast skies. You'll find one perfect for whatever you're into, whether it be surfing, swimming, strolling along or simply just lazing and enjoying the sweet fresh Atlantic air.
Inland, you'll discover an enormous network of footpaths which pass through picturesque villages, bosky woodlands and tiny hamlets. The South West Coastal Footpath, for example, takes you along 130 miles of total cliff-top splendour. In West Cornwall you can enjoy many officially-designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a host of public footpaths that make it a walker's paradise.
The area is also a treasure house of landmarks from prehistory and, more recently, the industrial revolution. From Cape to the eastern most part of the region, you'll find unmissable World Heritage Sites which preserve the haunting remains of tin mining workings.
And you'll never be short of things to do, the whole area is a cultural hotspot, awash with art galleries showing the creativity of the region and beyond. West Cornwall also offers music events and festivals and a host of restaurants with many styles, utilising the area's quality local produce.
Cycling, sailing, riding, golf, climbing or just walking through some of the most glorious landscapes in the World are just a few of the more lively activities available.
The Penzance area
As well as the large surfing and water facilities all around, Penzance includes a working harbour, the nearby fishing villages of Newlyn and Mousehole. St. Ives includes The Tate Gallery as well as many other artist galleries. The Eden Project can be visited within an hours drive and the Minack Theatre with its fantastic views of Porthcurno Beach is just 20 minutes drive away.
Penzance golf course open: daily, dawn to dusk
Penzance is situated in the West of Cornwall facing South across Mount's Bay and is only a stones throw away from Lands End.
The Outer harbour at Penzance is filled with yachts and pleasure boats whilst in the Inner harbour other vessels busily load and unload their goods.
Penzance boasts a wide variety of shops in its large shopping town. Most high street names can be found at Penzance as well as a variety of Cornish gift shops.
The view across Mounts Bay to St Michael's Mount (an island castle) is truly stunning - at low tide you can walk to St Michael's Mount from Marazion - a fleet of small ferries take you across to St Michael's Mount at other times.

We stayed at Bayview Cottage for the first week of September, there were 4 adults, a toddler and a baby. We loved the cottage, it is decorated very well and the furnishings are top quality and very comfortable. The cream tea welcome pack was much appreciated after a long journey from London! The little touches like fresh flowers and soap samples from a local shop were lovely. The location is excellent and we found plenty to do, even in the cloudy weather! We visited (and hired wetsuits/body boards from) Sennen Cove, admired the views from Porthcurno beach, had a look around the Minack Theatre, stopped at Land's End, had a look around Penzance harbor, promenade and shops and caught a small ferry over to St Michael's Mount. The only issue we had was with a neighbor who didn't like us parking at the bottom of the hill and we suspect that he broke the windscreen wipers on our car because we wouldn't park elsewhere (there were no signs or yellow lines to say we couldn't park there). We parked at the top of the hill (and sometimes down the next road) so he wouldn't do anything else to our vehicles!! We enjoyed our holiday and loved Bayview Cottage! Response: We're glad you had a nice holiday and really appreciate your positive comments. It's a shame you had negative experience with the parking. It's best advised not to park at the bottom of road at the entrance to Britons Hill as this restricts traffic potentially and it's a blind corner. Parking is recommended on the right hand side of the road (as you go up the hill). Thanks again and we hope you come back to visit in the future ;-) |
Guestbook for Bayview Cottage Penzance
Maggie Mcewan - "We travelled from Yorkshire to Penzance to stay in this cottage and we will do it again - and recommend it to friends. It is fantastic - clean, well equipped, in a perfect position overlooking the bay with St Michael's Mount off to the left, when sitting on the decking, quaffing some very cold wine - bliss!! The view from the upstairs sitting room is just breathtaking - its a full picture window will two pairs of binoculars on hand should you want to scout the horizon. The coastal walk to Marazion from Penzance is just the right length for people who want a bracing stroll rather than endurance route march and if you get tired there's always the local public transport bus which brings you back to Penzance up till 11pm - so you can leave the car at the cottage, have a drink in Marazion and get home safely. If you fancy another stunning view take yourself along to the Minack Theatre - an outdoor auditorium steeply build into a cliff overlooking the sea not far from Penzance. The production was tosh but the view is so stunning especially when the stars come out in such a remote location ".
