About this location

The Scottish Borders region

Use Yethouse as a base to explore the historic sites of the Scottish English Border, a place steeped in history and legend.

Find out more about Newcastleton, or Copshaw Holm, as it is known locally, by visiting our local heritage museum. If you are interested in tracing your family tree then the Hawick Heritage Hub is only 30 minutes away. Use their archives to look into famous Border names like Armstrong, Nixon, Elliot and Robson.

Take a drive following the Reivers Route taking in famous sites like Hermitage Castle and Mangerton, where battles were fought to protect the borders bloodied lands.

Scottish Borders towns to visit - Hawick is famous for its textiles, visit Drumlanrig Tower to understand its history or Wilton House and explore their beautiful gardens. Langholm, the birthplace of Thomas Telford, offers perfect walking country. Climb to the top of surrounding hills for superb views. Explore the ruins of both Melrose and Dryburgh Abbeys. Visit Abbotsford House and gardens, the home of Sir Walter Scott. At Harestanes spend some time visiting the crafts workshops and don't leave without popping into Woodside Walled garden, a gem of a nursery, indulge in home baking and a pot of tea.

Gretna is also close and offers a mix of traditional gift shops and shopping outlets.

Newcastleton

The world-renowned 7stanes mountain bike trails are on the doorstep. Newcastleton trails are used as part of the infamous Kielder 100, the cross border challenge held every September. They also hosted the UK's first 24hours solo event so offer trais to suit all abilties.

A short drive fromthe village is Kielder Forest & Water Park, Hadrian's Wall, the famous World Heritage site and Northumberland National Park an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Rock UK, our locla activity centre will be happy to indulge you if you want to try abseiling, kayaking, learn fencing or have a go at archery. They offer bike hire and many other activities for the young as well as the young at heart!

If the waters are running then try your hand at fishing for sea trout or salmon on the rivers Liddel and Esk, permits can be bought in the village during season. The challenge of the nine hole golf course is one you will remember, but worth it to see the breathtaking views from the third hole. A pony trek through the forest is a lovely way to while away an afternoon.

"Perfect!"

My family asked how I found Yethouse and the answer is lots of searching and comparing. It seemed just what we wanted and the previous reviews were faultless so I sent off my enquiry. Immediately Barbara responded and nothing was too much trouble - she noted that we were celebrating a 21st so suggested all sorts of dining options, putting me in touch with an excellent caterer if we wanted to go down that route.

We arrived on a snowy Friday and were welcomed by a smile, informative but not overbearing tour of the house, a fabulous lemon cake and, a lovely touch, a card for my son for his birthday (even remembering his name). Yethouse is the kind of place where you feel like you always knew it, Within a couple of hours we were enjoying a meal and a drink and laughing around the dining table. The house is cosy but much larger than we imagined - just perfect for our group. The beds are wonderful, the hot water plentiful and there is everything you could possibly need for meals, entertainment and relaxing. And the walks - oh the walks! We were lucky because it was either snowing or bright sunshine so we felt like we were stepping into Narnia when we walked through the forest, snow dripping from the trees and silence, complete silence. At night we walked just 50 yards away from the house and gazed at the stars. All very magical.

This was a special weekend that we will all remember. If you are reading this and researching and comparing like I was I suggest you stop because I don't think you will find anywhere better.

Thank you so much for taking time to post a review for us. Delighted that the family enjoyed their stay. We have never been compared to Narnia before but our tagline is 'middle of nowhere, centre of everywhere', your review encapsulates exactly what we try to deliver our guests. Thank you for being so gracious. B

"Perfect get away"

Another lovely week at the Yethouse, our 3rd visit, this time with friends as well as our own kids ( and the dogs) . The house was as welcoming as ever, warm, cosy and really well equipped for all the festive cooking, eating and TV watching! The 2nd TV in the sitting room is a fantastic addition. The new mountain bike trail down to the village is great and made the milk run a lot of fun. Highlights this time included a trip to Kielder Observatory , rewarded by clear skies and a great view of the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxy, and a fantastic view of Santa's sleigh passing overhead on a clear, sparkling Christmas Eve. Just such a lovely house and location it's hard to explain it in words but the fact that we're hoping to go back for a 4th visit probably says it all.

Thank you for sharing your experiences again. Delighted that the children were all able to see Santa on Christmas eve, made our Christmas as well! Looking forward to next time already. Best wishes B

"The most delightful comfortable character property in The Borders"

Recently were lucky to get a booking at Yethouse Farm in the Scottish Borders. The house was large, comfortable and welcoming as were the hosts Barbara & Paul Elborn.
It is a tranquil location within easy reach of Newcastleton surrounded by beautiful walks and breathtaking scenery. There is lots to do and see in the area if you want days out or jsut walk and admire the fabulous location. We had a fabulous week and will certainly be going back!

Thank you for taking time to post a review. Delighted you enjoyed your stay and experienced the Scottish Borders at their best; hot balmy days with a hint of autumn in the evenings. Doesn't get much better than that! We look forward to welcoming you back - next time bring the family, there is plenty of room! Best wishes to all B
