The Scottish Borders region

Use Yethouse as a base to explore the historic sites of the Scottish English Border, a place steeped in history and legend.

Find out more about Newcastleton, or Copshaw Holm, as it is known locally, by visiting our local heritage museum. If you are interested in tracing your family tree then the Hawick Heritage Hub is only 30 minutes away. Use their archives to look into famous Border names like Armstrong, Nixon, Elliot and Robson.

Take a drive following the Reivers Route taking in famous sites like Hermitage Castle and Mangerton, where battles were fought to protect the borders bloodied lands.

Scottish Borders towns to visit - Hawick is famous for its textiles, visit Drumlanrig Tower to understand its history or Wilton House and explore their beautiful gardens. Langholm, the birthplace of Thomas Telford, offers perfect walking country. Climb to the top of surrounding hills for superb views. Explore the ruins of both Melrose and Dryburgh Abbeys. Visit Abbotsford House and gardens, the home of Sir Walter Scott. At Harestanes spend some time visiting the crafts workshops and don't leave without popping into Woodside Walled garden, a gem of a nursery, indulge in home baking and a pot of tea.

Gretna is also close and offers a mix of traditional gift shops and shopping outlets.

The world-renowned 7stanes mountain bike trails are on the doorstep. Newcastleton trails are used as part of the infamous Kielder 100, the cross border challenge held every September. They also hosted the UK's first 24hours solo event so offer trais to suit all abilties.

A short drive fromthe village is Kielder Forest & Water Park, Hadrian's Wall, the famous World Heritage site and Northumberland National Park an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Rock UK, our locla activity centre will be happy to indulge you if you want to try abseiling, kayaking, learn fencing or have a go at archery. They offer bike hire and many other activities for the young as well as the young at heart!

If the waters are running then try your hand at fishing for sea trout or salmon on the rivers Liddel and Esk, permits can be bought in the village during season. The challenge of the nine hole golf course is one you will remember, but worth it to see the breathtaking views from the third hole. A pony trek through the forest is a lovely way to while away an afternoon.

"Fabulous house in an amazing part of the world"

The Yethouse is fantastic. Barbara made us feel so welcome. Everything you need is provided. The views from every window are amazing and the skies on a clear night were beautiful. We loved the silence. Great place if you like cycling and we would recommend trying to get to the Kielder Observatory if you can. It was the most fabulous relaxing week in a stunning location!

Thank you for taking time to write a review for us, we really appreciate your comments and absolutely agree that a night at the Kielder Observatory is a must see event. The silence is something we take for granted, its nice to be reminded just how special Yethouse is, thank you for that. Best wishes to all B

"Six-time returners never disappointed, always something new"

We have stayed at Yethouse several times at various times of year. For this most recent trip, with two university students (who enjoyed the village pubs!) and a 15-y-old, we were blessed with only one rainy day, so were able to make the most of the 7 Stanes Mountain biking trails with the more skilled riders driving over to Glentress for a day. The better mountain bikers amongst us cycled through Newcastleton Forest to Kielder and used the tails there whilst the local trails were sufficient for the rest - including a chanllenging red run. Excellent secure bike storage too. It's not all about bikes though - there is lots of adventure up the road at rock UK and the farmhouse is wonderful - warm, cosy and everything you would wish for. There are plenty of walks on the doorstep and lovely views, coffee shops and local supplies in the village and Edinburgh is an easy drive if you fancy a dayof culture. We will definitely be back!

Another amazing stay at the yet house. The house is absolutely beautiful and is an absolute credit to the owners. Love the wood burner, quiet lounge and of course the library. Clean, comfortable and it has everything you could ever need - a real home from home (or much better!) location is great, you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, lots of walks, outdoor activities etc but also within walking distance of the local pubs, cafes, shops, hotels etc. this was our second trip - now been with a group of friends and with family - cant beat it!!! Never been very lucky with the weather so hoping to go back in the summer to make the most of the outdoor space. Dog friendly too. Can't fault it and can't wait to go back.

Thank you, high praise indeed. Yethouse can indeed feel like the middle of nowhere, yet the centre of everywhere! Your review describes it very well. Glad your family also enjoyed their stay. Best wishes to all B

"Excellent property, exceeded my expectations. A warm, cosy stay during the Xmas storms"

Spent a fantastic week at the Yethouse with our extended family for Christmas 2013. An excellent property overall, warm and cosy (especially with the log fire) but still with ample room for 5 adults, 3 kids and a dog!. Beautiful location with plenty of walking opportunities locally which kept both kids and dog exercised during the week, despite the wild stormy weather which discouraged us from venturing further afield.
A big thank you to Barbara for her hospitality and for decorating the cottage ready for our Christmas visit.
I would happily recommend this property to anyone seeking a relaxing break in this beautiful part of Scotland..

Hi all
thank you so much for your generous comments, much appreciated. Delighted that Yethouse met your expectations and you had a lovely family Christmas. Best wishes for 2014. B

"Outstanding home from home!"

Our second visit to Yethouse didn't disappoint, with some new improvements in the kitchen and a lovely integrated log burner what more could we need. The facilities, as always, were impeccable and its lovely to visit somewhere that's thoughtful in supplying the necessities for kitchens & bathrooms too along with the delicious Lemon Drizzle cake! The large stock of board games kept us thoroughly entertained whilst relaxing next to the log burner, glass of wine in hand! Being so close to the Newcastleton 7 Stanes was our original reason for visiting but we also managed some 'road riding' after putting skinny tyres onto the Mountain bikes! The Parents/In laws walked from the Yethouse most days and we all enjoyed a glorious day out at Keilder which is no more than 20-30 minutes away. As we visited in October the pubs in town don't always stock 'real ales' out of main seasons but we ventured 'over the border' to the Bridge Inn at Penton where real ales were found! The two cafes in town are very welcoming and both serve delicious food & cakes and although we had a 'Tesco delivery' for all the basics the butchers is well worth a visit. We will certainly go back and maybe try a different 'season' next time.

"We had everything for a perfect holiday."

We felt very at home. Also our three children loved Yethouse. Perfect for trips to Hadrian's Wall or biking with the children.

"Fantastic Holiday At Yethouse, Newcastleton"

Cottage was so much more than we expected, with large rooms, a lovely dining room, comfortable beds and plenty of books, films an music to entertain with space to escape each other if need be! The area is beautiful, lots of walking possible with facilities for other activities available through Rock UK and 7Staines. Lovely stables very near for horse trekking. The owners, Barbara and Paul Elborn, are very friendly and did everything they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We look forward to staying in their beautiful cottage again and would most definitely highly recommend.

Thank you very much for posting a lovely review for us, much appreciated. Delighted that we exceeded your expectations, we aim to please! Hope to meet you all again soon. Best wishes B
