Nestled at the very heart of Exmoor National Park is 'The Old Forge', a traditional and beautifully presented 2 bedroom cottage available for holiday lets all year round.

This newly renovated picture postcard cottage is situated in the quaint village of Exford. It is well-equiped and cosy with one master bedroom and a twin room along with a spacious living area and kitchen.

To the rear of the cottage is a private patio overlooking the stream leading onto the river exe, as well as a beautiful countryside view. The patio is fully equipped with wooden furniture and a BBQ, so entertaining in this private haven is second to none.

The Old Forge is situated opposite one local pub and a short walk from another, both of which serve an extensive menu. Additionally, the village store is across from the property and the Post Office a few doors away.

Within a short drive you can see the stags or Exmoor Ponies on the moors. You can even take an Exmoor Safari from the local pub! Or just relax along the scenic North Devon and Somerset cost line, with the nearest beach being only a 20 minute drive away.

The cottage was refurbished in 2011 with all furniture and facilities brand new.

The master bedroom has a kingsize bed whilst the twin room has 2 single beds which can be pushed together and made into a double bed if required.

The living room has a beautiful 4 piece suite including 2 large sofa's (one of which is a sofa bed) as well as 2 single chairs. The semi circular window in the lounge looks onto the large village green ensuring beautiful views. Also the main front door leading straight into the living room is a stable door providing character along with extra light and air when needed.

The new kitchen is fully equipped with everything needed for a self catering holiday, along with a table and chairs that seat 6 people .

The back door in the kitchen leads out onto a small alley way which takes you directly to the private patio area overlooking the river exe. It is fully equipped with outside table&chairs as well as a charcoal BBQ for your use.

There is substantial FREE roadside parking right outside the cottage and also a FREE Public Car Park less than 100 yards away.

Pets allowed at additional cost of £25 per pet/stay to cover the extra cleaning cost. A dog gate is provided to please ensure they stay only downstairs.

Smoking is not allowed anywhere inside the cottage.

A £100 refundable security deposit is required at the time of booking, along with a deposit of 25% of the total rental cost, with the remaining balance to be paid 6 weeks prior to arrival.

In the very heart of Exmoor, Exford is an idyllic village, based on the River Exe in the centre of Exmoor National Park.

It has excellent access to the moors for those interested in outdoor sports and activities such as hunting, riding and shooting, and close to near by seaside towns for those wanting to visit the coast and perhaps even doing a little surfing. Well known for its superb hunting, fishing and walking, (the Devon & Somerset Staghounds have been based there since 1875) and with stable yards for equestrian visitors, Exford is a popular choice for all types of tourists throughout the year.

The picturesque, large Village Green is the central point of the village, with houses and local amenities surrounding it. It has an excellent children's play area, which is the result of local parents fundraising efforts. The village has a post office, newsagents/grocery store and two small hotels, The White Horse Inn that sits on the River Exe and The Crown that overlooks the green. Both offer visitors the chance to eat & drink in a traditional friendly Exmoor atmosphere with true Westcountry style.

"Very enjoyable and comfortable stay."

We really enjoyed our stay at The Old Forge. It is a charming house in the heart of the lovely Exford village.

The house is well-kept and we instantly felt comfortable and settled.

The semi-circular window overlooking the village green gave us a charming view.

The sitting room sofas were clean and comfortable.

WiFi was very useful for planning activities.

Kitchen very spacious and well-equipped.

Master bedroom modern and bed comfortable.

2 bathrooms both nice and hot water in good supply.

Lovely walks and good pubs on your doorstep.

Very smooth booking process and very helpful and friendly owner.

Highly recommended!

"Excellent accommodation in great village location"

The cottage was spotlessly clean, spacious, well furnished and well equipped.We enjoyed being at the centre of a busy, well - kept village with availability of good walks but with excellent road access to neighbouring towns and to the coast.
However, as the cottage is on a main road, traffic can be heavy at times, particularly early in the morning. This is not noticeable at the back of the house.
We ate out twice in Exford, once in a hotel restaurant and once in a tearoom. Of the two, we considered the tearoom better value. We explored the menus in a second hotel restaurant but thought the prices being asked were excessive. We used the excellent kitchen in the cottage and cooked a super meal at home instead!!

"Excellent base to explore Exmoor"

We booked this cottage last minute as all hotels in the area were fully booked and hoped it looked as good as the picture. In fact it was better! The cottage is immaculately maintained and every detail to enhance your stay has been thought of including a comprehensive welcome pack and some lovely complimentary grocery essentials on arrival. It was the perfect place to explore the beautiful local area and ideal when you have young children.We always worry, having been put off previously by bad holiday rental homes and tend to plump for well known hotel brands (or seek trip advisor's advice!) but I needn't have been concerned on this occasion as it is clear that Tess takes real pride in ensuring the cottage is the perfect place to stay away for her guests. We wouldn't hesitate in recommending this property - thank you for a lovely stay!

"The perfect location to explore the great outdoors and less than a minutes walk to fab food and drink!"

I have stayed at this cottage twice now (October and March) and will definitely return. The location is perfect in the heart of Exmoor and in the centre of the village of Exford. The cottage is IMMACULATE and offers very comfortable accommodation for 4 people. The cottage is less than a minutes walk from a choice of pub/hotel, both serving good food and drinks! Lots of outdoorsy stuff on offer in the locality - either walk from your front door or take a short trip to explore further afield. We will be back again and again and again.........!

"Perfect West Country Cottage"

We booked the cottage for a week of riding and country sports in the heart of Exmoor.

The cottage was perfect in every respect -there was plenty of storage space for our riding kit, boots and coats; two bathrooms and lots of mirrors made it a doddle to get 3 girls ready in the morning and the comfy sofas, large kitchen and excellent heating made coming home to relax after a long day in the saddle a real pleasure.

The facilities go above and beyond any other self-catering cottage I have ever stayed in. There is a dishwasher, large freezer, separate fridge, washing machine and tumble dryer which makes life much easier.

Real thought has gone into kitting out the cottage with a loaf of bread, milk and other essentials left ready at the start of the rental period, an ironing board, football and cricket bat provided in the cupboard, plenty of pans and crockery and a high chair for smaller visitors. Sadly we didn't get to test the roof terrace as the weather was vile, but can imagine this would be lovely on a warm day.

The cottage is centrally located in the village, handy for both pubs, the post office and the shops. We cannot wait to stay at this cottage again. Highly recommended.
