Enjoy Exmoor from our delightful Wisteria Apartment, idyllically situated in the National Trust village of Allerford alongside a shallow river. From our doorstep discover the stunning countryside, coastline, moor, sea and pretty villages.
Wisteria is a first floor riverside apartment. The accommodation is light & airy, warm, cosy, centrally heated, tastefully decorated and well appointed.
The perfect retreat in the ideal location to visit and explore Exmoors stunning countryside with its abundance of wildlife fantastic network of footpaths bridle and cycle tracks. The sea at Bossington is only a mile away, and the Home of The West Somerset Steam Railway and Dunster with its Castle only 5miles. Lynton and Lynmouth can be reached by car within 30minutes on the coast road or alternatively,you can take the open top bus which stops only yards from our door.
Wisteria is accessed via its own staircase from the pretty courtyard. The oak stabledoor leads directly into the lounge/kitchen/diner,
were you will find a dining table & chairs next to the picture window overlooking the river, the opposite window has views of the courtyard and countryside beyond. The room is furnished with a Duressa settee a coffee table tv cabinate housing a flat sceened TV and a separate DVD player. A door leads into the double bedroom, which has a fitted double wardrobe, double bed made up with quality bedlinen two bedside cabinets with lamps, a bifold door gives access to a single bed with bedside table and lamp,another door leads to the ensuite bathroom, which has a full sized bath & mira shower over it, washand basin and wc. Wisteria also offers its own private outside seating area overlooking the river.

Wisteria Apartment at The Pack Horse is a first floor riverside apartment, the accommodation is warm, cosy, well equipped and tastefully appointed. It offers a light and airy lounge/kitchen/diner with views over the river, pretty courtyard and surrounding countryside. The apartment benefits from a double bedroom with an adjoining small single bedroom, a built in wardrobe and en-suite with bath and shower over making it ideal for couples, people who would like separate beds or 2 adults and a child, also a pet is welcome by arrangement.
There is seating in our pretty courtyard for your alfresco dining and use of a walled garden.
Private secure parking and lockable storage for guests outside pursuit equipment is also available along with free wifi.

The village nestles under the Aller woods and is surrounded by countryside, with it’s famous Pack Horse bridge, chocolate box cottages the village also offers a post office/general stores, licensed club, thatched school museum and a childrens play area.
Paths and bridleways lead to the sea at our neighbouring village of Bossington and picturesque Selworthy which boasts stunning views from its hillside location. The larger village of Porlock is 2 miles away where you will find pubs, restaurants and a variety of shops offering everything from local produce to books and antiques.
Within 5 miles is the seaside resort of Minehead, the home of the West Somerset steam railway and the medieval village of Dunster with it’s Castle and Yarn Market. Lynton and Lynmouth is a stunning 12 mile drive across the coastland edge of the moor allowing you to experience the diverse landscape, dramatic coastline and wealth of wildlife including red deer, Exmoor ponies and a great variety of birds.
The Pack Horse is ideally located for everyone to explore and experience all there is to offer on Exmoor or just to relax in a piece of Englands unspoilt countryside.
The West Country / Somerset region
Allerford is situated within the Exmoor National Park which is an area renouned for it’s outstanding natural beauty. The area is protected and maintained by the Parks authority and National Trust allowing visitors to experience this scenic countryside, moor and coastline.
Weather you wish to explore by road, foot or horseback there are an abundance of paths, lanes, trails and bridleways to enable you to do so.
Having countryside, coast and moor on our doorstep the choice of activities on offer include fishing in one of the local lakes, rivers or sea, walking many of the well signposted footpaths, including part of the coastal path or experiencing the local landscape in an off road safari or on horseback.
The Exmoor / Porlock area
The area is also home of the West Somerset Steam Railway so you can take a step back in time and experience the age of steam, you can travel back even further by enjoying a trip into Dunster where the medieval castle sits majestically above the village steeped in history, owned and run my the National Trust along with 2 other local large National Trust properties which have been restored along with there grounds and gardens for the visitor to view.
Being on the coast days on the beach are another holiday choice and how you get there could include the local open topped bus or the Exmoor explorer a days ticket allows you to hop on and off in the various villages and coastal stops along the route. The surrounding oldie worlde villages can satisfy your retail therapy mood offering everything from locally grown produce, crafts, gifts to antiques and collectables.
Our local golf course offers a unique oppotunity to tee off adjacent to the sea and enjoy the panoramic views around the 18 holes.
Thoughout the year the area offers local events which include country fairs, folk & food festivals, sports, walking and cycling events along with Christmas Markets, Dunster by candelight and Christmas late shopping.

We stayed at Wisteria for a winter walking break. Allerford is a great base as it is possible to walk to Dunkery Beacon, Porlock and Selworthy Beacon without using the car and everywhere else is but a short car ride away. Also there is the Allerford Club?! Wisteria is adjacent to the river - the whole area is natural (sound of running water) and with character. The hosts are warm and friendly and the accomodation is very comfortable with everything we needed. We would thoroughly recommend without hesitation and will be back again ourselves for certain. |
