Description

Situated in a south facing garden, with its own enclosed spacious grounds beside the cottage on a quiet country estate with its own informal golf course, Dimpleknowe Cottage offers outstanding surroundings and great views over the Borders stunning scenery. Hot Tub available for hire. The local area offers good, unrestricted walks and we welcome 1 or 2 dogs at and additional cost of £20 per dog.

Rated 3 stars by Visit Scotland, the well-equipped cottage sleeps 5 people in a double, an en suite twin with a walk-in shower cubicle, and a single bedroom. There is also a separate family bathroom which has a shower over bath and is equipped with hand grips. A cosy sitting room with new 42 inch TV. A large well-equipped kitchen / dining room complete the facilities. Visitors will be greeted with a generous starter pack of fuel for the open fire. Free wi-fi is included in cost. Electricity is extra and is payable at the end of your stay, although we offer £25 toward the cost over the Christmas and New Year period.

Outdoors there is a lockable bike/golf shed, garden furniture, barbecue, and the garden offers ample parking at the front door of the cottage. Please note that the fence shown in the photos has now been removed.

Dimpleknowe is well located for touring and seeing all that the Borders and the surrounding area has to offer. Supermarkets and shopping are only a 10 minute drive away and the new Borders railway - for day trips to Edinburgh - is a 25 minute drive.

“Tranquil Retreat in the Borders”

Stayed at Dimpleknowe Cottage from 7-14 July. The cottage is fantastic, providing ample facilities for a short or long stay. It is ideally located as a base for visiting all the Border towns and if desired a quick visit to Englandshire!! Situated behind the 8th hole of a small golf course, which is testing for golfers of all abilities. It is also a dog walkers dream, the course also allows dog walking. We were very fortunate with the weather and this allowed us to sit at the back of the cottage, which gets the sun all day. Jane is a very good host and met us on day one to provide a brief on how everything worked. She also provided logs for the log fire (although due to the weather we never used it). Finally we can recommend the Cross Keys pub, fantastic food and great service.

Calm, tranquil, peaceful, well equipped, clean, very cosy with the log fire roaring away, wildlife, and a friendly, helpful owner. Highly recommended but note that it's very secluded and may not suit everyone. Great for stargazing as well as bird watching.

It's rubbish smelt of damp old fashioned dark need to read meter and pay for coal and wood owner was rude did not stay one night.

When we arrived you need to read meter you need to buy coal or wood found it very dark and drab and a smell of damp when we told the owner she was rude no offer of refund did not stay one night very old furnture very drab

Owner's reply: I am sorry you were disappointed. The amount of energy used can vary significantly between visitors to this property and therefore providing meter readings is the most efficient way to pay just for what you use. This method has never been an issue for visitors in the past. We have always provided a very generous starter pack; a full basket of logs, kindling and some coal beside the fire. Previous visitors have paid for extra bags of coal/logs with no issues. The passage way with all rooms leading off can be dark when all the doors are closed but there is good lighting provided. All other rooms are exceptionally well light with large windows. The photos do accurately reflect the property and furniture as per our other reviews. Shortly after your premature departure an inspection was carried out by a former secretary of a residential London Club who has a great deal of experience with housekeeping issues. Neither of us could not find any traces of a damp smell. The only noticeable aroma was from an air freshener. We are sorry if this was not to your liking. I would have to disagree with your remark that I was rude. I was however quite taken aback by your attitude and reaction after your early arrival to the property which regularly receives excellent feedback.

Our second visit to this cottage. The cottage is well equipped and offers peaceful, quiet surroundings. Jane made us very welcome and could not have done more for us. Very approachable and helpful about surrounding area and places to visit. The bedrooms provide lots of storage space and very comfortable beds, we sleep really well when there. The golf course provides a wonderful place to walk the dog and there is lots of wildlife to spot! The bird table is visited daily by a woodpecker. Cannot recommend this cottage more and we hope to make a return visit in the future.
