The Retreat: indoor pool sauna
Cottage | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 4
The Retreat is a single apartment in a barn conversion above the pool room giving it wonderful views across the fields. The Retreat comprises a luxurious double bedroom with en-suite shower featuring a king size bed and Chinese furniture. A proper fold-out double bed settee allows extra sleeping in the sitting area. Double doors and a Juliet balcony give views across the croquet lawn. The fully equipped kitchen is tucked in the corner of the generous living area with flat screen TV, comfortable chairs and a dining table. A wide double-glazed glass screen leads to an elevated paved balcony with outdoor seating and distant views to the church and Wolferlow Court.
The large gardens are open each year (one day on 7 July 2013) for the National Garden Scheme and include an orchard, wildflower meadow with ponds, herbaceous borders and distant views across neighbouring farmland. Well away from any busy roads the property is peaceful and private.
Attention to detail includes the provision of top quality bed linen, towels and luxury towelling robes.
The Retreat is ideal for a couple looking for a romantic and luxury getaway or to bring the baby / younger children and enjoy a family time together. If the party is a little larger it is often possible to use double bedrooms in the main house on a B&B basis at a separate charge - please enquire with booking.

Wolferlow is a tiny hamlet comprising about 20 houses and farms with beautiful countryside and walking immediately on the doorstep. Birdwatching (72 species on the garden list), wildlife (badgers and foxes in the garden) and historic churches abound and short travels can take you to lots of interesting places (more details later).
The Retreat's highlight is the exclusive use of a 9m indoor heated swimming pool and a Finnish sauna. There's also a table tennis table and plenty of room to work out or practise pilates in the pool area. We can even arrange for you to have a personal trainer visit at extra cost by prior arrangement. Immediately outside the pool is a secluded sun terrace and garden for your exclusive use.
The Retreat is accessed by a single flight of 15 stone steps with metal handrail and is therefore, unfortunately, not suitable for wheelchairs. It will be suitable for others with some restricted mobility so long as they can cope with gravel garden paths and the steps.
The use of the swimming pool and sauna is subject to compliance with simple and clear instructions which form part of the booking contract. Copies are available on arrival.
Please note that the Owners (Stuart and Jill) live on-site at Wolferlow House. Mobile phone signal is weak so please always call on the home phone (and answerphone) for bookings.
The Central England/Cotswolds region
The Herefordshire / Worcestershire area is a well kept secret offering a wealth of interesting places to visit whilst being right in the depths of beautiful countryside with lots of peace and quiet.
London is a world away but we are actually only 120 miles from the M25. Birmingham is 38 miles. Readily accessible from M5 J5 (Droitwich Spa) & J7 (Worcester South).
Bromyard (6 miles) Home to the Herefordshire Marmalade Festival, The International Town Criers’ Festival, the Scarecrow Festival, Dr Who Museum, Nozzstock Rock Festival, Jazz and Folk Festivals; there’s something for everyone going on here! That’s before you visit Brockhampton National Trust, Bromyard Downs or Bringsty Common.
Tenbury Wells (7 miles) Traditional market town on the River Teme hosting the Mistletoe and Holly market and has many traditional shops on the high street that you won’t find anywhere else. Good food and drink is to be expected when the town is surrounded by farms, hop fields and orchards.
Worcester (15 miles) Visit the magnificent cathedral, catch up with the English Civil War at the Commandery, stroll along the Shambles shopping, explore the River Severn or relax at New Road watching the county cricket.
Ludlow (17 Miles) Architectural gem and gate to the Welsh Marches, Ludlow has a wonderful market, superb restaurants and events and festivals throughout the year. Ludlow Castle dates from 1086 and is surrounded by over 450 listed buildings. Wonderful for foodies!
Great Malvern (18 miles) The Malvern Hills offers some of the best walking in the country before visiting the local tea rooms, shops, spa, theatre, Abbey, Eastnor Castle or the Three Counties Showground for the Spring, Summer and Autumn Garden Shows.
Hereford (20 Miles) Another great cathedral with the Mappa Mundi and the historic chained library, horse racing, traditional black and white buildings, local cider and beer all set in a medieval market city.
The Cotswolds, The Long Mynd, The Black Mountains, Hay-on-Wye, Cheltenham and Stratford are all within reasonable driving distance.
Upper Sapey Golf Course (27 holes) is at the end of our lane, a three day event course even closer, a local gym, riding school and fishing nearby, Shelsley Walsh hillclimb (the oldest motor racing event in the world) two villages away and the Worcestershire Way (36 miles) is on the doorstep. Children may like West Midlands Safari Park and the Severn Valley Railway.
English Heritage look after Witley Court (7 miles), the remains of a vast and rambling palatial mansion with its magnificent grounds and restored fountains. Next door is an amazing Italianate baroque church and its tearooms.
Can I bring my own horse with me? Yes, you can. We have stables and our own paddocks. We also have three horses.

"'The perfect Getaway'"
Arriving at The Retreat we were very glad we had booked it, it is exactly as advertised. The accommodation is of a very good standard and really comfortable. Having the indoor heated pool, the sauna, table tennis and gym equipment exclusively to ourselves was great, we put them all to good use. The living area wall to wall windows leading onto a balcony gave brilliant views of the gardens and surrounding areas. If you want to wake up to the sound of the birds and the sheep this is the place to go.
Jill and Stuart were most welcoming and easygoing.
Having said that a short drive would get you into surrounding towns and the City of Worcester.
We will be staying again when possible.

"Perfect place to get away from it all and relax!"
We booked a last mounter weekend at The Retreat and had a wonderful time. The apartment is light and airy with a lovely view. The kitchen was well equipped to prepare full meals. The bed was very comfy!
The pool was bigger than I expected and the sauna was great. Good to have the sunbeds to relax by the pool and read a book.
As others have said the mobile signal is weak or non-existent but this was perfect to not be disturbed!
The owners are lovely, very friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. Being able to order a two or three course dinner delivered is a great addition, we didn't on this occasion as we had our meals planned but would certainly try this in future.
We really enjoyed our weekend, really relaxing and we would love to visit again in the future.

"Wonderful, peaceful and relaxing stay"
Stayed for a couple of nights with my partner, 3 year old daughter and our dog - had a lovely time.
Plenty of local walks with beautiful scenery, a wonderful private pool which we all enjoyed and the accommodation was perfect - clean and well equipped. Very friendly family - there if you need any assistance but we had plenty of privacy.
Highly recommend it and look forward to returning again soon!

The retreat is a perfect place to stay in a beautiful location. The accommodation is really well designed with a very high standard of fixtures. The bed was unbelievably warm and comfortable with top quality and clean linens. The retreat is really well prepared and the wine and cake were the ultimate for making guests feel totally welcome.
The photos don't completely do it justice. There is full dining table which was great for evenings in. Next time we will definitely sample Laura's cooking. The kitchen is really well equipped which was really helpful when travelling with a baby.
The pool area is incredible. The same thought has gone into the design and fittings and everywhere is immaculately clean. The pool area is lovely and warm (as is the water) making this a perfect place to stay year round. As the pool area is warm, we were able to relax on a lounger reading, or play table tennis after a swim and the cold and rain outside did not bother us at all. The retreat is also well fitted in the event of rain or just curling up and relaxing, with lots of books, a TV and music player. In the summer there is a lovely patio and gardens to relax after a swim.
Jill & Stuart are great hosts. They are helpful, friendly and knowledgeable but not in the slightest bit intrusive. There are lots of interesting places to visit and lovely areas to walk whatever time of year. Like other guests we found the reduced mobile phone and wifi cover very liberating. We were able to get a mobile signal in the gardens, but actually enjoyed chilling without it.
If I had to describe my perfect retreat, this would tick all the boxes. We are now planning our next visit.
