The Isle of Wight region
The southern side of the Isle of Wight is regarded by many as the most scenic part of the island. The south facing Undercliff is famous for its micro climate, hence the location of The Botanical Gardens at Ventnor and the popularity of the sandy beaches along this coastline. There are plenty of great places to eat in the area including The Hillside Hotel & The Hamborough in Ventnor and The Boathouse Restaurant & Wheelers Crab Shed at Steephill Cove. Other places to visit include Osborne House, The Needles Battery, Alum Bay, Carisbrook Castle and Blackgang Chine.
Buddle Place is just a few hundred yards from the sea at St Catherines Point, with its famous lighthouse surrounded by National Trust downland. The village of Niton is within walking distance where you will find the post office/tea room, grocer, pub and chemist. The Buddle Inn country pub is a few hundred yards down the road. There are wonderful coastal walks along this part of the Undercliff, one of the Island’s most beautiful stretches of landscape.
