Situated in a recently converted forge within the grounds of a beautiful Georgian rectory in the village of Wakerley, this tastefully furnished two bedroom cottage is an ideal temporary home for for tourists wanting a central base to explore the heart of England. Forge has an stylish and airy double height, open-plan kitchen/sitting/dining room, a mezzanine level double bedroom and a further twin bedded room. There is a bathroom with an overbath shower.

Wakerley is conveniently situated in beautiful countryside in the Welland Valley on the Rutland-Northamptonshire border, 4 miles south of Rutland Water. Set in 4,200 acres of open countryside, this huge reservoir and nature reserve offers activities for all the family. Bird-watching fishing, water-sports cycling and rock climbing are all available or you could just take a walk and stop in one of the lakeside cafes. Local golf courses include Luffenham Heath, an Open qualifying course for 2013.

Wakerly liesbetween the Georgian market towns of Stamford, Uppingham and Oakham where you can enjoy a host of independent shops and restaurants plus theatres and museums. Wakerley makes an ideal base to explore the heart of England. Some of England's finest cities, including Cambridge and Lincoln, are within an hour's drive. The showerRutland offers a vast number of attractions and activities to experience such as sailing, fishing, cycling, golfing, bird watching and rambling - all set with the stunning backdrop of Rutland Water. Numerous stately homes, including Rockingham Castle, Burghley House, Belvoir Castle and the late Geoff Hamilton's famous Barnsdale Gardens are all within striking distance.

There is a huge choice of traditional country pubs and restaurants as well as the more upmarket Hambleton Hall and Michelin star Olive Branch pub, offering a wide variety of affordable dining. Whether you are visiting in the summer months or in the heart of winter, Rutland is a county where you can enjoy the most beautiful countryside walks. The Heart of England/Peak District

Wakerley is a small village situated in the picturesque Welland Valley on the borders of Northamptonshitre and Rutland. Close by are the towns of Stamford, Oakham and Uppingham.

Stamford, (8 miles away) is considered one fo the finest stone towns in England's, built in beautiful Lincolnshire limestone. It is a favourite film location, used recently in Pride and Prejudice and the Da Vinci Code and was also the setting for the TV series Middlemarch. Built on the Old Great North Road, Stamford has been a important resting place for travellers for over 1000 years. Its historic town centre boasts a wealth of visitor attractions, shops, pubs and restaurants. Just outside Stamford stands Burghley House, one of the largest and grandest houses of the Elizabethan age and home of the annual Landrover Burghley Horse Trials.

Uppingham (7 miles away) and Oakham (12 miles away) are also close by. These attractive market towns are packed with heritage and are home to a wealth of art galleries, speciality shops and eateries.

Rutland Water is four miles away. From Peterbororugh you can access the East Coast Mainline and direct train links to London and the North, including the cities of York, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
