5 TANNERY BRAE is a recently refurbished ground floor, one bedroom self catering apartment situated in a conservation area within the town of Gatehouse of Fleet, considered to be one of the most beautiful towns in Dumfries and Galloway. The apartment is centrally situated and convenient for all the usual amenities of shops, post office, tea rooms/restaurants, inns/hotels. The apartment has its own private parking to the front, with a gravelled garden area to the rear backing onto Garries Wood

The entrance porch leads into the lounge and dining kitchen. The bedroom, with king size bed and en-suite shower room, is accessed from the lounge.TV/DVD player, CD player with ipod/ipad dock. Free wi fi available

Kitchen has a good range of pine units incorporating an electric oven/grill, fridge with freezer box. Dining area with oak table and 2 comfortable dining chairs

The Dumfries and Galloway region

There are numerous places well worth a visit and within very easy driving distances of the apartment

To the West the 'food town' of Castle Douglas has interesting shops and a walk round Carlingwark Loch. Nearby, Threave Castle and Gardens are well worth a visit. To the South lies the 'artists town' of Kirkcudbright with its historic harbour area. To the West are Newton Stewart and the 'book town' of Wigtown. Further afield to the West are the Isle of Whithorn and the Mull of Galloway

For the more adventurous there's the 7 stanes cycle route together with mountain biking at Kirroughtree. To The North there's watersports available at Loch Ken and a visit to the Red Kite feeding station just outside Laurieston is well worth a visit

Gatehouse Of Fleet

The picturesque small town of Gatehouse of Fleet is situated less than 2 miles from the A75 and on the edge of the Galloway Forest the home of one of the world's few 'Dark Skies Parks'. A mini supermarket is close by as is the post office and pleasant coffee shop/restaurant/gift shop. in addition there are 4 or 5 other eating options all within walking distance.

There are numerous, mainly gentle, walks from the apartment itself. and a 9 hole golf course and a tennis court. The Mill on The Fleet visitor centre has a wealth of local history and houses art and craft exhibitions and a book shop. Cardoness Castle and Cally Gardens are well worth visiting.

Gatehouse itself is an ideal base for visiting this beautiful scenic area whether it be the forests and hills inland or the coastal regions with their lovely South facing beaches

There's a very regular bus service through the town

"lovely flat"

We're both bewildered and mortified by this, our first, tripadvisor review. We've had over a dozen guests in the apartment since we commenced letting it out last Autumn. Without exception each and every one has had only good things to say and the reviews on the booking section of our website confirm this as does the 'visitors book' in the apartment itself.
We only found about the problem when, as is our custom, we emailed these guests after their visit asking if they'd enjoyed their visit and found everything to be ok. We received an email reply suggesting some problem with the cleanliness when they entered into the apartment. The problem is detailed in their email to me stating,
'the property is really lovely but. It appeared not to have been cleaned from previous occupant we cleaned the fridge and oven door the bathroom bin, also I would have liked ironing facilities. But we thoroughly enjoyed our stay your property is just lovely'
I telephoned to discuss and spoke to the lady guest and we had a very friendly conversation and I told her I understood her concerns and apologised. Our cleaner had been unwell for a couple of weeks and this has undoubtedly contributed to any problem though we don't offer that as an excuse. We've spoken to her and she was unaware she'd 'missed' anything that particular changeover
The review, I believe, was written before our 'phone conversation and my concern is that the narrative of the review suggests the apartment hadn't been cleaned at all after the previous guest had left. This, from the lady's email' is patently not the case.
On the question of 'no clothes drying facilities and no ironing facilities' none are mentioned in any of our advertising. The apartment is one bedroomed so exclusively for couples and we haven't considered it necessary to provide such items. If we provide drying and ironing facilities here would we then have to provide a washing machine? We've stayed in many similar properties ourselves in the past and have never had nor expected them.
On the question of scoring we're given 2/5 for both 'overall condition' and 'quality of facilities/amenities' and are completely in the dark as to what other problems they encountered to give such a poor score. Although we've emailed to ask, we've had no response whatever. We set the apartment up as recently as last year spending over £7k to decorate and kit it out, virtually everything being bought new. We initially set it up for ourselves before deciding we'd let it out at times of the year we were unable to use it.
In conclusion, the review is in itself contradictory as, in their email to us and also the review, the apartment's described as lovely, the email says they'd thoroughly enjoyed their stay and the review says they'd be happy to recommend to their best friend …………… hence our bewilderment.
